They probably didnt care, they just wanted a very powerfull villain for Avengers. And yes, Fury did call him that once or twice in minis and first episode. He himself never called himself that.

does Lance Henriksen voice Grim Reaper? Dunno, but that would certainly be an interesting choice. <Edit> Yes, he does. He's one of only 3 people I've heard of doing voice for the show, along with Phil Lamarr and Kari Wuhrer. <Correction to my Edit> Mark Hamill is Klaw, as well (which seems to be a waste of his incredible talents, to me. I would have used him for a more important/competent villain)

Was he ever referred to as "Graviton" on the show? Because I've heard of the villain of that name (obviously I'm not extremely familiar, or I would have recognized the civilian name & backstory). I wonder if Marvel was aware they were ripping themselves off when they revealed that Magneto is not a master of magnetism, but of the Four Forces (which is essentially what Graviton is as well) marvel.com/news/moviestories.14460.watch_the_avengers~colon~_emh~excl~_series_premiere

So, several episodes in and I like it. Not nearly as good as I thought it'll be, but its fun and full of fanservice (not the sexual one, mind you) that makes the nerd in me happy. Though why they turned Zemo into a supersoldier is beyond me.

I like their version of Zemo!
Black Panther is lame as hell though, as usual. He shows up, spanks the ENTIRE TEAM, and then Wakanda super-technology takes down the QuinJet to top it all off. I loathed that episode pillar to post.

Hey, at least I didn't tell you that Black Panther actually turns out to be a Hydra agent. It would ruin the entire episode if you knew that going in.

So, I finally sat down and watched a couple episodes. Eh. It's okay.
I don't like that they turned Manhattan into a crater in the process of fighting Graviton. I can't begin to imagine how many people died, and yet the heroes still act like they saved the day. Sure, they prevented greater calamity - potentially world domination - but untold numbers of innocent people just got obliterated. Shed a tear, man.
That sort of thing completely disconnected me from the show. It stopped being about sacrificing for others and became entirely about using cool powers to blow sh*t up. Ah well. At least it succeeds better at that than, say, Dragon Ball Z. The first 2 episodes were 95% unrelenting action. Probably more actual combat than an entire season of Dragon Ball. ^__^
So, not without it's good points, but ultimately it loses me.

I'm not worrying about the new Avengers Cartoon sucking or now. It's targeted to Kids, and I am an adult. That's why most of Marvel's movies, cartoons, and so on suck. It's not targeted toward Marvel's older fans. Kids love it, older fans mostly hate it. Our time is over, and Marvel knows it has our money any way because we have to buy their crap four our kids, so they hadve to worry about getting them hooked on it instead. It's like "F*ck you true beleivers, but this time we're already getting your money, so we're making sure we have your kids' money now."
Damn Marketing

It's always worth checking up on a cartoon, though, because sometimes they do make them pretty inclusive of older viewers. The 90s Batman cartoons were strong, and more recently we get shows like Spectacular Spider Man (I'm a broken record, I know) and Avatar (not Marvel, but still). Avatar in particular proved that you can make a cartoon that 4 year-olds and 40 year-olds love equally, if you put some real effort into it.
I really hope that the Legend of Korra (the Avatar sequel coming out in the spring) is as successful as Avatar was; maybe people will realize that cartoons have a far wider audience than they're given credit.
EDIT: But yeah, ugh, marketing. I remember when a show would get a toy line if it was successful enough. Then, shows started designing toys before the episodes even aired. Nowadays, the toys come first and the shows are just 22 minute commercials.

Okay, Hawkeye joined the team and lemme say this- he's the most badass version of Hawkeye EVER! I mean, just wow, his battle with Black Widow, later with mutated Avengers and Leader's robot was among the best fight scenes I've seen so far.

He out-badasses cartoon Hawkeye 3-to-1.
