Because it's the classic Seven Samurai "heroes defend the helpless peasants" trope that has been done to death and back again. Like sitcoms with wedding episodes, every roaming hero show does one eventually.

Now I'm itching for the third season episode where Baby Yoda and Mando argue and they wake up the next day bodyswapped. And the fifth season one where they get stuck in a force Time Loop Jokes aside, I'm loving The Mandalorian.

Like sitcoms with wedding episodes, every roaming hero show does one eventually. I guess it makes for (sometimes) decent episodes. Even though the whole thing sort of felt like a filler episode with the sole purpose of introducing a main/sub character for the future. In any case, I enjoyed it for what it was. I just hope there isn't a LOT more of that feeling for me.

Recently seen episode 9. It... was alright actually. I thought Last jedi was a car crash and this was JJ "everyone runs about while I squeeze lots of lens flares in" Abrams attempt to steer the ship away from the ice berg.
No spoilers from me, but all you old farts should appreciate the nod to the previous films. I'd give it 7.5/10 because Empire Strikes back was 9.5/10, A new Hope was 9/10 and anything with jar jar binks was -1,000,000,000/10.
The last one?
Hardly. Disney dropped $4.05 Billion on Lucasfilm. It'll get shelved for a while I should think, with other stuff popping up. They want their moneys worth.

Just watched it. Feels terrible. Will come back with something more measured once I sleep on it.
Slept on it. It didn't just feel too conservative and way too much of a Return of the Jedi mirror, but also it spent a good chunk of the movie chasing an useless macguffin that served no plot or character development purpose. Almost all of the drama/consequences get reversed, none of the new additions have weight and get explored (since they are busy with the asinine plot) and the movie feels strangely vindictive towards The Last Jedi.

Doublepost: I'm a *little* wary that they seem to be straying even more into the normal Star Wars stuff: Yoda, Jedi, the Force, etc. I'm so goddamn burned out on that stuff, and what I initially found refreshing about The Mandalorian was it was sticking to the more ignored corners of the Star Wars universe. I'll see how it goes, but the moment we get a recurring Jedi character, I'm out.

I guess that given that we got the adorable baby Yoda stuff from the start, getting Jedi stuff into the mix was kinda unavoidable and too tempting for them to make the effort to avoid. We'll see how much screentime Rosario Dawson / Ahsoka Tano. I'm personally more curious to see if the rumors about Sasha Banks' character end up being true and what kind of character Timothy Olyphant ends up with.

The Mandalorian keeps being awesome and a couple of spinoffs are on the way with Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka. The rest of the projects sound far in the future like the Cassian Andor series or the Obi-Wan one. We'll get more droid stuff, a Bad Batch animation series, a Lando one without casting yet, something mysterious in the high republic, an anime anthology and a Rogue Squadron film by the Wonder Woman director.

The amount of fan service is getting higher and higher this season, but there have been some solid episodes (and even I fucking nerded out on the cameo in episode 3). The most recent episode, s02e07, was chef's kiss.
I don't want ANY of these spinoffs because honestly The Mandalorian is the first Star Wars thing I've enjoyed since the early 80s, but I hope everyone else enjoys them.

I'm baffled by most of the choices of the focus of those new series, at least as far as we know about, with Ahsoka's exception that kinda makes sense (in using as much as possible a well received and liked character, I mean). The ones I don't care about now could still be something I love in the future, and maybe the ones I see potential in could be a flop. It's still way too early to know. I did enjoy The Clone Wars, Rebels, Force Awakens and The Last Jedi along the way (and several new comic books under the Marvel imprint, specially Kieron Gillen's Vader and Doctor Aphra), so I'm open to them trying whatever stuff they want to see what sticks.
And yeah, the fan service is there and it will probably always be as long as it's something Star Wars. It's kinda unavoidable, it makes them mad money. Is Timothy Olyphant cursed by a witch to always be a Marshal everywhere? I do enjoy him (I freaking LOVED Justified) but hell, poor dude.

The Mandalorian keeps being awesome No spoilers, but whoa. Maybe it wasn't necessary to end the season that way, I could have done without, but it was mostly nicely done and I'm certain that lots of people are liking it.

^ That's how I feel, too. I'd rather they didn't, but they did, and for what it was, it was excellent.
I'm not really excited about season 3 of Fanservice: The Series (also starring The Mandalorian), but I'll at least check it out.
