The version name is mostly a joke, as I'm going to base the region off the state of Florida (what... Unova was based on New York!). If there's one thing finals does, is it sparks my creativity. My plan is create a custom-made region with a new set of 150(ish) Pokémon, similar to how Black and White started with a full unique set. The Pokémon will be loosely based around Florida and its culture (so think some pseudo legendaries based on a Knight, Gator, Bull, etc.; a mouse, whale, and woodpecker legendary trio; etc.). After designing the Pokémon, I'll figure out which cities/locales will actually be "notable" (ie, visitable on the game map) and translate them into Pokémon-type things (so Orlando wouldn't be called Orlando, but it may be called Grapefruit City based on a city theme of citrus fruits). Finally, I'll work out gyms and stuff, populating the world, etc. I'll go ahead and keep this open for feedback but if it gets too crowded, I'll just make a new thread for that. Maybe I won't abandon this one, eh?

Here's what I've got for the starters. Grass StarterGoing to be based on the Florida Panther, probably starting off pure Grass and winding up Grass/Dark or maybe something like Grass/Ice and be based around a Saber-toothed cat by the end. Water StarterLess certain about this. Part of me wants to go manatee, but I don't like the idea of a starter that can't move around on land. The conch is an idea, with it becoming Water/Steel or Water/Rock in its final stage. Maybe it could even outgrow the shell and become Water/Fighting? That could be interesting... Ideas on the water-type starter will be appreciated! Fire StarterGoing to be based off the Florida Cracker Horse, which is also consistent with the tradition of the Fire-type starters being based on the Chinese Zodiac. My plan for this is to have it work its way up to being Fire/Electric; puts a new spin on the term "cracker," I think, and is a pretty cool typing.

Here are some more that I've come up with, although they're unnumbered.
Ghost - Ghost/Steel This guy is based on a poltergeist, initially and, in its evolved stage, it's possessed an animatronic robot along the lines of the types you see all over Disney.
Steel - Steel Animatronic all the way. I'm considering connecting this guy and the one above where, when this one evolves, if you have a poltergeist on your team and an empty slot, the poltergeist will inhabit the body of this one and create a replica.
Grass - Grass/Dragon Starts off as a lizard and becomes a gator dragon kind of deal. This is my University of Florida guy; I may go ahead and add a middle stage, too.
Steel - Steel/Electric Continuing with the Florida universities, this one represents the University of Central Florida. Starts off as a kind of squire and evolves into a full blown knight, possibly as some kind of centaur so it's like a mounted warrior?
Fire - Fire/Ground This one is for the University of South Florida. Not really a big player in Florida's universities, but I wanted to save hurricanes for a kind of roaming legendary (since they tend to destroy the state) and Seminoles as something else, although they could get in for this theming, too. Starts off as a calf and becomes a bull.
My biggest issue with adding a Florida State Pokémon is that the school's field mascot is now a cracker horse, probably to avoid racial issues with being the Seminoles. A Ghost/Fighting Seminole could be quite cool, though. We'll see...
