Please feel free to download the first beta release of Morph, a series of utilities for the Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game. Latest ReleaseMorph (Beta) v.1.2.0: files.filefront.com/Morph+120rar/;8910682;/fileinfo.htmlPrevious Releasesv.1.0.0: files.filefront.com//;8303908;;/fileinfo.htmlv.1.0.1: files.filefront.com//;8397276;;/fileinfo.htmlv.1.1.0: files.filefront.com/Morph+110rar/;8852685;/fileinfo.htmlIncluded in this initial beta are the following utilities. - Tracker - a tool for GMs to keep track of NPC stones and actions. It handles basic stone spending and regeneration.
- Converter - for converting characters from the Marvel SAGA rules. Additional conversion systems will be incorporated, and powers have yet to be added.
- Formatter - Takes the .txt export from Stain's MURPG Character Builder and formats into an HTML sheet similar to the official books. Refer to thread regarding this required tool at murpg.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=charactercreation&action=display&thread=1169586324
This is the first version and will undergo many changes in the coming months. Feel free to download and explore what it is capable of doing. The downloaded file is a .zip that should be extracted in the location you wish to run the program. There is no installation required, but Morph will detect your Java Runtime Environment and walk you through any required downloads for that standalone framework. Your feedback and suggestions are very welcome. This is my first attempt at a desktop application, so criticisms of any kind are well received. Thank you and please enjoy Morph! Updated Notes: 8/25/2007: Known Issues, v.1.0.1Formatter does not automatically append .html when saving the file, nor does it warn when overwriting an existing file. Please use carefully until a fix is in place.

vayman, I think that's a pretty cool little program you've got there. I especially like the Formatter tool. I'd much rather my program create CADs sorta like your hmtl exporter, but I'm pretty stupid when it comes to html programming.
The Tracker tool is nifty, and I've often thought about making something similar. I'm not sure how useful it would be on the boards, but something more web-based where all players could view the same game could be beneficial. I'm excited to see what this becomes...

Nice stuff, I must say. But I have a request: Since Im 98SE user, I cant use Stain's Builder, so can anyone post here how a CAD for formatter should look like, to use the formatter properly?

Thanks for the responses and feedback. Expanding the tracker to allow it to share data across clients sounds like a great idea. It'll take some learning on my part, which sounds like a good time. In the meantime, I hope to continue working out the little bugs that are in the Formatter. Not every combination has been tested yet, but I'll keep at it. I took the liberty of uploading a sample text file that the MURPG Character Builder exported. I was at first hesitant to do so since it was Stain's style and format - but no one would use Notepad to maintain their characters if the Character Builder was an option for them. Stain - if you feel otherwise, please let me know and I'll remove the link. So playah, please download the file at the following location files.filefront.com//;8322244;;/fileinfo.htmlIn future builds of Morph, I'll include the test text file to help people get started with the Formatter. Again, thanks for the encouragement. If nothing else, it's given me reason to keep developing the tool in between getting my actual campaign ready. Best regards, Vayman

I have taken a look at this and love the Formatter as it allows us to make use of characters created with the builder. I have began looking into the tracker (as this is something I have needed for a while) and am a bit confused as to the purpose of the n field and the mark button. Any ideas on what these are for?

One other thought on the tracker...
It would be nice if there was a way to handle characters who have faster energy regeneration. I am doing that manually right now.

Hi tomasina, thanks for the feedback! Glad you're finding the tool useful already. Here are my answers to your posts. The "n" field is going to be used to keep track of initiative order. For now, it is just a free-text field. I envision it being used to enter in a value and then sorting all the entries in order of action. Regarding the "Mark" checkbox, this is a way for users to select some (or all) of the entries, thus selecting them for some bulk function. A user can turn on the checkboxes in at least one tracker entry and then click a button at the top next to the "Marked" label. Currently, only a "Clone" function has been designed. This is used to, say, create an entry for a Hydra Agent, turn on the "Mark" checkbox, and the click the Clone button to create additional Hydra Agents. Future enhancements will have other functions in addition to Clone. Regarding your last suggestion about handling faster Regeneration, I'm right there with you - this is a good idea. I'm going to try to work on a way to do this. Any ideas of what the interface might look like? I'm trying to keep each entry as compact as it currently is, so it's getting difficult! Thanks for the responses. I'm very new to these rules, so any feedback goes a very long way!

Any ideas of what the interface might look like? I'm trying to keep each entry as compact as it currently is, so it's getting difficult! Thanks for the responses. I'm very new to these rules, so any feedback goes a very long way! The easiest way would be to have a simple field for regeneration... where I can specify how many points are regenerated. This way you will automatically support all regeneration methods (including custom). The default entry for the regeneration field should equal the H: field entry... but it should be able to be overwritten by the user. Thus if something happens in a panel that allows my character to regenerate twice as fast for a panel... I can just modify the regen entry for that panel and then I can switch it back to normal. Anyway... just my thoughts, Tomasina

Neros - thanks for the nice feedback! Please continue to let me know how it's working for you. I'm planning on making some fixes/updates very soon based on some ideas I've received here. Tomasina, I think your idea is probably best. I hadn't considered that there may be house rules/custom mods that would follow their own system. Thus, a free-entry field would work well, defaulting to the Health entered initially, but allowing the user to update it whenever they choose. (Though as damage is dealt, I think it should decrease unless the Intelligence rule is being used.) As you may have noticed, if a character entered is using the Intelligence rule (by supplying an INT value, I'm using the rule that the max energy reserve is lowered by three per white stone of damage. I think that was introduced in the Hulk/Avengers book) Great ideas. I'll definitely incorporate the Regen field in the next release. I'm also hoping to include some form of sorting based off of the "n" field, and also a way to "store" a character - removing it from the tracker window, but placing it in a dropdown where it can be retrieved later. (So a GM can keep the tracker clean, but not have to re-enter the same Green Goblin stats when he flies into the page two missions later.) I've some work to do. Gotta work on my own game for this Saturday, but hearing some feedback/criticism motivates me to get a new build going as soon as possible! ;D

I came across a few issues while using Formatter tonight. Please refer to the original post where I outlined them. They are not "game breakers", but are significant and not without workarounds! Fixes will be on the way, time and real life permitting.

Patch Release v.1.0.1 Please refer to the original post for the latest build. A minor patch release was delivered today which fixed issues in the Formatter where it sometimes improperly recognized actions in the notes/specialties. This v.1.0.1 release is designed to fix that problem. Please report if this (or other issues) occurs again.
The zip file contains patch notes, as well as the sample .txt file from Stainware's MURPG Character Builder.

I downloaded this program and can't get it to run. Unzipped it and all, but I click the morph icon and nothing happens. Not even an error message.

Do you have java installed? The program requires Java to run. You can download it here java.com. If you already have Java, try uninstalling Morph. Download a new copy and reinstall. I know with my program that a number of users have experienced corrupt downloads/installs and this fixes a lot of issues. You might also try doing this with Java as it can also have problems.
