Post here if you have a thread that needs deleting.

Afternoon all.
Last I heard from the board owners we are supposed to be keeping the board free of unused threads. The directions I was given was to delete any thread that hadn't been used/posted in in more than a month.
So how do we want to do this? I used to post reminders in threads cause it was a good way of me keeping up to date but I don't know how comfortable everyone is with that.

Maybe PM the GMs and let them know a deadline? What kind of deadline I'm not sure. Some of these threads haven't been updated in months, though...

You can take down my 'Capital Vs Nightraid' game, as it unfortunately ended.
Also, I liked how you handled it before. Posting something in the game's OOC was always good, as it allowed either a player or thr GM themself to say if the game was still going or not.

I have to confess I was kind of a fan of posting in the thread too as it let me keep easy track of what threads were being used. Basically if my post went unanswered for a month the thread could go and I could see just by scanning down the board what threads had my name on as the last person to post in them.
However I was a bit concerned that being so public might make people feel a bit defensive so I'm totally open to suggestions.

My suggestion is that we create a folder for inactive or archived games. We can stick it under the "Resources" section, and when a game goes inactive we can just move it over there. That gets it off the main page and helps keeps the scroll to a minimum without having to make the game invisible. It would be easier for people to access and browse, with the hopes that players could then save any content (like CADs) and even try to reorganize a reboot or a return to play.
This also helps unclutter the Admin view of the boards, which is full of hidden games that are probably never going anywhere. Nesting folders like this only became possible in the v5 update, and we've never really taken full advantage of the possibilities.
The biggest downside to this plan is that moving boards is a little tricky, and accidental deletions are a risk. But there's always a risk when cleaning up inactive games, so we just have to be very careful and diligent like usual.
If we go with this plan, I think the MO should be to write a post in the OOC thread of any game that has been idle for a month or more. Unless it turns out the game is about to return (the GM or a player was just on vacation or something) then the game can be moved to the Archive. It can stay there indefinitely, and if the GM and players want it back on the front page to play again, they can message Janus or me or whomever to have it moved. It may not wind up in the same spot on the front page, but whatevs. ^__^
While we're at it, I think we can shove all the "write-ups" into one folder and put that under Resources, too. That should also streamline the front page a little.

I'm not so sure I agree with the all Write-Ups in one folder idea... I find it useful to have them separate as they are. Just my 2 cents.
I personally liked the 'One month and you get a 'Hiya' from Janus' thing the way it was, and would like to suggest that if we do indeed adopt the 'Stick in the Inactive folder when it's idle' idea, that the time limit be increased to limit the moving around and thus, the risks of losing something by accident, diligent and careful as we may be.

The write-ups would still be in individual folders. It's just that on the front page you'd see something like:
Resources Useful Files Rules Discussion Scenarios! Write-Ups Marvel Heroic
And when you click on "Write-Ups" you'd then find all the usual headings as sub-folders: Hero Write-Ups, Villain Write-Ups, etc.

See, the more I think about an archive folder the more I like it, not so much as a first line, I still do the message but then offer, archive or deletion as options rather than delete or hidden.
We can then move the hidden threads to the archive and actually keep a proper eye on them.
The hidden threads are only supposed to be kept for a couple of years anyway. This way however it stops being such an onerous task to cull them (trust me it takes ages) and if people want the threads kept they can just post something in the thread. Everybody wins.
What does everyone think? I personally think it would be cool to be able to reread old games, my one concern is the memory storage requirements. How big is this going to get and do we have the storage space to keep it all? TWF?

Cool, well, I'll experiment with creating an Archive. By experiment, I mean I'm actually going to create a fake game, with a fake CAD folder, some fake CAD threads, fake game threads, stickies, etc, and then try moving it into the Archive. Then I might make a second one to make sure it really works.
If the results are positive, I'll next try moving some games that have been hidden for ages and probably forgotten about. If that works, it should be good to go.
Then I'll move the Write-Ups, too. I'll be super careful, I promise.

Cool, so I created a hyper-realistic test game in the Online Roleplaying category, just as if I were making a normal game for a GM. Then I populated it with a few threads. And then I moved it into the newly created Archive. And it worked! So I think we can easily start shoving old games in there, now. There does not appear to be a limit to how many boards we can shove in there. I don't think there's a limit. I'm going to start moving the Write-Ups into their own board in the Resources area, now. ~TWF
