Cocooning
CL = N/A (Read below)
DESCRIPTION
A Cocooning is a rare, mystical event that may happen seemingly randomly to pretty much any sentient living being, and possibly to smart non-sentient creatures like dogs and cats as well, with odds of about 1 in 1,000,000. A person undergoing a cocooning will initially fall sick, becoming increasingly weak, exhausted and feverish as the body prepares itself for the procedure. Eventually, the 'disease' becomes too much for the 'victim', causing them to lose consciousness... and mystically generating threads of pure energy from their body, which solidify quickly, becoming solid matter of an unknown nature and forming an egg-shaped cocoon around the affected person. The person then remains inside it for a duration usually lasting for a few days, to a few months, depending on how extensive the changes undergone by the person inside.
Destroying a cocoon before the transformation is over is essentially impossible. Detonating a nuclear explosion immediately next to it would barely chip it, and it would reform new threads to replace the destroyed part within seconds. The cocoon stubbornly resists external effects and influence, up to and including most reality warping effects, unless performed by a major deity or a cosmic entity. And yet, when the time comes, the person inside, and anyone outside who may want to help, can break through it with about as much ease as removing old, rotten wooden planks from an equally decaying wall.
The person exitting the cocoon will be changed in various ways, unique to each person. The variations are essentially limitless; gender, height, weight; hair, eye and skin color, built, even species, personality, likes, dislikes, all of those and more may possibly be altered; or not. Some people remain almost the same with a single, small difference, although usually, more powerful changes usually come with physical alterations at the very least. Additionally, the person going through the cocooning will invariably gain at least one form of superhuman ability or another, which, again, can be nearly anything. Needless to say, such a major, drastic change will likely be very confusing and difficult to deal with at first for the one undergoing it, but the nature of the cocooning soon enough makes them feel more comfortable in their new form than they did in their original one if only for their mental health's sake.
It is not an effect that one may 'buy' to have it happen to their character; instead, it's simply something that might happen to anyone in game... although it could very well be used as the reason/origin for a character's powers. Naturally, such an effect risks possibly altering a character heavily, so such a mechanic should be discussed on and decided on or rejected prior to starting the game.
Upon going through a cocooning, a d10 is rolled. On average, 10 character creation stones are gained per point to make improvements to the character at the GM's discretion, and the person usually gains a -1 value of Challenges per two increments of said 10 stones to make up for it, although the GM could decide a cocooning to be more minor (5 stones per point rolled, -1 challenge per 3 increment) or major (20 stones per point, -1 challenge per increment) than others.
COMMENTS
A life-changing event which could turn a normal person into an Avenger-level superhero if lucky, or into something powerful but traumatizing if not. Scary yet exciting, both at once.
