"Open on A!"
A guard hollered, throwing a heavy switch, a loud buzz sounding to alert the others, the rattling of a gate shaking as it wheeled open.
The lights flickered briefly as Jim Gordon marched down the corridor.
"Open on B!"
The lights flickered again as the sound of his heavy footprints disguised a faint whoosh.
"Open on C!"
The lights went dark for a split second. Without turning behind him, Gordon spoke:
"Thanks for coming."
A shadow rose behind Gordon, a man with pointed ears silhouetting the Commissioner. Pausing to stomp out a cigarette, he sighed:
"You have to admit, this is unusual, even for Day."
The last gate rolled open, this time revealing a middle-aged man in a straight jacket, whispering over and over again:
"Today's the day...today's the day...the day...the day. Today's the day."
Various calendars lay strewn about the cell, all with the date marked in a dull yellowish-red, blood faded from time as the Calendar Man continued whispering frantically, dried blood staining his nose and lips.
As the Batman approached with the Commissioner, he turned to the two:
"Don't you see!"
He rocked back and forth nervously.
"Today's the day! Today! Today! Today! Today..."
He began repeating the word over and over as he began sobbing.
Gordon, ever the stoic, shrugged his shoulders:
"Any idea what he's talking about?"
----------------------------------------------------
"Thanks for coming, Ms. Lane."
"Lois, please, and I should thank you. It's not every day a woman gets to share a majestic view of the sun setting on the Mediterranean with a world renowned archaeologist who's made a discovery so big he's contacted every major publisher offering to pay for their expenses for the first flight to Egypt, Dr. Nelson."
"Kent."
"Kent, then."
"You know, I asked for you specifically."
"Oh?"
"A single guy can't ask a beautiful, successful journalist to join him in sharing a majestic view of the Mediterranean?"
"Just seems like there are easier ways to go about getting a date."
"Well I'm glad you came nonetheless. Last I'd heard you might have been seeing someone. A coworker?"
"Clark? We're...on a break right now...Too many...skeletons in the closet. But enough about exes. What's the scoop?"
Lois Lane took out a small micro-recorder, turning in it on.
Kent Nelson opened a briefcase to reveal an archaic helmet:
"Over 3000 years old. Belonged to an ancient Mesopotamian deity by the name of Nabu. Or so the legend goes."
"So?"
Kent cleared his throat, and spoke in a ritualistic monotone, summoning arcane forces in a long-forgotten dialect.
Lois raised her eyebrow.
Kent cleared his throat again, repeating the phrases, though, again, nothing happened.
"I...wasn't expecting this."
"What exactly were you expecting?"
"Shazam."
"What?"
"Shazam!" Kent hissed the again in exasperation.
"This is a joke right? Did you and Perry decide to pull one over on me? Is this payback for the Christmas thing last year?"
"It's an ancient word of power. I'm not exactly sure what's supposed to happen, but this helmet is the key."
"Oh Christ you're serious."
Pulling the helmet out of its case, Nelson again said in a solemn voice:
"Shazam!"
The ground began to rumble. Kent shouted:
"Get down!"
The table shook, furnishings toppling over and crashing to the ground, as a flash of lightning appeared from nowhere. The pair took cover as dust and debris began to swirl about them, though the helmet remained inert. When the dust settled, a large rhomboid, as tall as a small mountain, appeared in the middle of the outdoor patio, as if passing directly through the ceiling and the floor below. Reaching out to touch it, Kent's hand went straight through it. Lois whipped out her phone:
"Who are you calling?"
"This...this is a job for Superman!"
As the Earth shook about them, two islands emerged from their slumber, one from the literal depths of the sea.
---------------------------------------------------------------
"The center of creation reborn at the heart of human civilization."
A green projection display showed the Rock of Eternity floating above the desert floor, as demolition and construction crews moved about the building around it trying to clear an entryway.
"Two isles, one lost to the mists of time, the other, lost to the abyss, have returned to the realm of men."
The projection shifted to show the islands of Themyscira and Atlantis with helicopters and planes circling about them in a transparent surveying attempt.
"Troubling times young Lantern. Sector 2814 will need you now, more than ever."

[OOC: A DC Crisis Crossover. Looking for people to play existing DC characters being called upon to figure out what the heck is going on with the return of three central locations in DC mythos to Earth: Atlantis, the Rock of Eternity, and Themyscira, though, as a Crisis Crossover, feel free to take some liberties with continuity, even the ones ostensibly laid out in the prologue (that is: you can certainly play a different version of Dr. Fate, Superman, Green Lantern, or Batman, than the ones featured or mentioned in the Prologue). The heroes should not generally know each other personally or have worked with each other before, or know each others' secret identities, and there is no Justice League/Society in this setting (yet). But they might know of or about certain other heroes, and their heroic reputations (for example, from the news, or through surveillance, magic, etc.). Ideally the characters would be able to be and are interested in being part of a Justice League after the events of this story.
Because I anticipate characters like Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Dr. Fate, Flash, and so forth, there isn't going to be a Stone Count as such, and, as a Crisis Crossover, you should eventually expect antagonists who can hold their own against the combined efforts of these heroes.
Although this game may feature alternate versions of characters, I would prefer if players chose different characters, not different versions of the same character.]
