REGENESIS THE SECOND COMING OF THE GODS "A long, long time ago, back when supernatural forces still ruled behind the curtain, when the legends and myths of centuries ago were still very real and unquestionable, back when the whispers in the wind and the eyes in the darkness were not the results of a tired, unreasonable mind... we were here. Working together, opposing each other, guiding this world of mortals and beasts to a better tomorrow to the best of our capabilities.
But mankind was proud and ambitious, just like we ourselves tend to be. They aspired to rule themselves, to thrive on their own, to prosper without our guidance and our judgment. Their leaders seeked us out, and we discussed the possibility. We decided that our children deserved a chance, that they had proven themselves worthy of our trust sufficiently for us to give them said chance. And so, as we had agreed, we left.
For thousands of years, we were gone. For thousands of years, we watched, and observed from afar, as we dealt with our own interests and businesses in our own planes, while still keeping a distant yet watchful eye on humankind. Our children grew, evolved, created, warred, brought back peace, lied, told the truth. They loved, hated, learned, made mistakes, dreamt, hoped, despaired. For thousands of years, humanity evolved on its own. Year after year, our agreement was drawing to its end.
And now... now, we are back."
Welcome to Regenesis - The Second Coming of the Gods! So, you are very literal gods. Not god-like beings, not 'physical gods' like Marvel Asgardians, but actual, honest-to-God (lol), transcendent, divine beings. As my little story up there explains, you used to be living among mortals in their world a long time ago, long enough for your existence to be little more than a story in mythology books, if even that. You could be entirely 'new' (as in original, not actually new; you still existed thousands of years ago) gods, whether based on yourselves or completely made up, or you could be existing gods. Either way, you will be essentially Intermediate-rank deities (I'm using more or less the DnD terms for levels of powers, so there are Lesser Gods, Intermediate Gods and Greater Gods, possibly with Overdeities, though those are very rare and do not tend to hang out with most other deities for the most part). So essentially, some gods are stronger than you are (like the 'big guys', like Zeus, Odin, Ra and the like), some gods are weaker, and most other gods are more or less equals. In other words, you're far from being pushovers and your opinion counts a lot. You fear almost nothing, though you may have rivals of similar power, and showing respect for more powerful deities is a very good idea. NOTE: If players are okay with it, I might allow one Greater Deity in the group. I'm still hoping for most PCs being Intermediate deities, however. Also, you are not 'out of time' individuals. You may have last been in the mortal plane thousands of years ago, but you kept an eye on it. You know what cars, TVs, and Internet are. You probably know quite well how to fit in, and can dress the part no problem. You don't have to, of course, but most gods seem to agree that modern clothes are comfier than beast furs and crude leather, even from divine creation origins. Most gods are not just 'general' gods, but are gods of 'something'. For example, Apollo is a god of the Sun, of Healing, of Music and of Beauty, among other things. Players are encouraged to pick some such concepts fitting their character (or make their charact fit with such concepts), maybe 3 to 5. This isn't mandatory, merely encouraged. One could be a 'general god', but deities of similar domains tend to support one another, which can be a plus.
For the moment, let's leave the rules and stone counts for later (just know you'll be powerful). Right now, I wanna hear concepts. ^_^ NOTE: As usual, be aware that this game might and quite possibly will include mature content, including strong language violence, sexual themes and so on. The absolute worst may be slightly censored, merely strongly hinted at or taken off-screen to keep the game within the realm of socially 'appropriate', but it will possibly nonetheless be there, so you've been warned.

I was gonna pitch Odin... Or at least my own version who'd be a bit more like Marvel Thor mixed with the Final Fantasy type Odin. Defined by his love of drink and battle, and his complicated relationship with his ex-wife Freya.
But that doesn't sound like it's on the table here.

I'll be honest, if other players are fine with it, I don't mind. I just want most PC gods to be Intermediate rank, to be honest. So if they are fine with it, so am I.
EDIT: Updated description to mention this.

Failing that I wouldn't mind being Freya either.

Freya would be a fine choice. Certainly. ^_^

By the way, I encourage you guys of discussing the changes in personality, looks and interests/goals your god may have compared to the original if it's an existing one, in order to possibly help give each other ideas or just help me prepare to integrate it in the world. For example, if you wanted to go like 'I'm Balder, the Norse God of Light and Beauty, but after so many years of mortals evolving and developping new ways of getting entertainment and enjoying pleasure, I'm eager to experience it all. I've become a hedonist, I dress in the best suits Gods can create money can buy, and I made Las Vegas my home', it'd be nice to know. ^_^
Also, if you intend to have specific relationships with other gods, be it players or NPCs, I suggest we also discuss it here to both get creative juice flowing and help me work it in. Again, as a random example, if you wanted to play as, let's say, Isis and wanted Bastet to have become your BFF and Heimdall your boyfriend over time (or maybe meet a mortal who'd soon become said boyfriend, why not), then please mention it.

So, I had a couple of ideas (Thoth, Neptune... Might even go with my namesake Janus) however it would really help to get a feel of what you might be doing with the game.

Right now, I'm not doing anything with the game. You guys are doing something with the game, and I will go from there. XD
You guys're the main characters, Janus. What you decide to do as you arrive in the world of mortals might decide on how this game is going to go all on its own. If you are too passive, I might have some other gods create some situations to react to. If you go out with a bang and bring on some massive changes and grandiose plans to the world, I may not need to come up with much, as you'll create adventures with your very own actions and what said actions will cause. It'll all depend on who you are, what you want and what you do to get what you want.
i.e The whole point of the game is that the gods return to the world of mortals and what they - and incidentally you - do will shape how and where things go from there. Naturally, I could use some gods to kick up some dust, but I want to see what you guys have in mind first.

Neat, definitely gives me something to work with. Very tempted by Neptune then. Mankind has dumped all their crap in his oceans and he is not amused.

Sounds good. Just so you know, as far as I am concerned, Neptune and Poseidon are one and the same, like how Mars and Ares are, Venus and Aphrodite and so on. It's probably just a detail, but I like to think that some gods are simply worshipped under different names when they're actually the exact same gods.

Right now all I want is to make my idea of Freya based on the one from Danmachi (Or Is It Wrong To Try and Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon if you use the technical title) Namely she's a hedonist of sorts who uses her godly charm to amass a large amount of followers. She also has several enemies due to past interactions with other gods. especially the goddess Hestia (Due to a dispute over a mortal they both really wanted.) as well as a very complicated relationship with her ex-lover Odin, and her adopted 'sons' Thor, and Loki.

Mind you with all the similarities within indo european mythologies you could potentially lump a whole host of deities together.

For example if Neptune and Njord are the same entity that would make Neptune Freya's father... Just sayin'
I've always looked at the differences and similarities between the Greek and Norse gods and wondered if what we are seeing is the results of a narrative.
Greek gods start out, become Roman gods as society changes, some massive upheaval occurs where major gods like Zeus are killed and the gods move north, become the norse Vanir (Neptune to Njord, Apollo to Frey, Aphrodite to Freya, the fates to the norns etc) raising up certain humans to replace the missing members of their pantheon...

To be honest, I feel like unlike Greek/Roman mythology, there are enough differences between Norse and Greek/Roman gods that I can easily make them different NPCs, so at the moment, the only Gods I will consider to be the same are Greek/Roman ones, and most religions who worship a single, benevolent deity with a concept of Heaven and Hell, whether they realize it or not, worship the same entity as well.
...By the way, in case anyone was wondering, said entity is not playable. XD
