Ahh, that explains it. You are partly right. The database didn't change between the two releases so the versions wouldn't have mattered. However, the character file format did change. The program will automatically convert characters created with a previous version. However, it cannot convert characters created with a newer version of the program. It can convert up, but it cannot convert down. The next release checks against that.

Okay, that's cool. That is probably what happened then. Either way, I'm back up to (what I assume is) the latest version so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Uhh... Can we get an update on the status of the project? Is there anything specific slowing it down? What features have already been implemented? What features are yet to be implemented? Could you please estimate a completion date?

It's coming along. I've taken a couple weeks off of the project to focus on some other things (e.g. make wife happy...yard work...etc.). The only thing left to implement is the print function. As I have only one printer to work with, and my wife needs it quite often for school, I've been without anything to test on for a few weeks.
Right now it looks like around mid-May before I'll have a solid beta release.

So, does that mean the output to text file is finished? And the Mod Packs functionality?

Yep - kinda. Printing and outputting to text work the same way in terms of functionality. Once the document is built in memory, it's just a matter of determining the output source. So when one is done, the other will be done shortly thereafter. There's a bit more to it than that, but that's the basic logic.

...just a quick note to let everyone know that I'm very close to beta release of MURPG Character Builder. I will soon be contacting those of you who've expressed an interest in helping me test it.
I was about to release it tonight, but I just found a couple things that need addressed first.

I released the Beta 1 release last week to those interested in testing. For those of you to whom this applies, please let me know if you did not receive that PM. Thanks!

The beta has expired and can no longer be opened. Do I just have to reinstall the previous version to still use the software?

I finally got to try this thing out the other day. I hadn't been able to try it at school because my personal computer was weak and I was edgy about putting ANYTHING on it, and all the other computers were communal.
Nice work man. I really liked it. Sometimes I wish I were I billionare so I could put my money where my mouth is, but even though I'm not, keep up the good work.
