I'm posting this here rather than in the main thread because every time I post something that is just an idea there, I inadvertently end up running a campaign I didn't necessarily intend to.
I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who thinks it might be fun to re-tell the Original Trilogy of Star Wars in a game. Obviously it would involve story differences from the original (hence my use of the term "Ultimate"), but the framework would be the same.
Is this something anyone would be interested in, or am I alone in thinking it would be fun?

Are you thinking something along the lines of Infinities?
Regardless, it sounds pretty awesome.

I'm thinking something closer to the originals than most Infinities stories are, but yes.

I love Star Wars, but surely you know the curse... Star Wars games around here tend to die very quickly.
Also, of all the eras in the Star Wars timeline, the time of the Empire is one of my least favorite because it doesn't have many Jedi. It's not that that I think Jedi are the only interesting characters in Star Wars, (Han Solo is quite cool.) but to some extent, they make Star Wars what it is.

*shrugs* I come from the opposite school of thought.
Not on the "curse of Star Wars" here on the boards. That I believe in.
But to me, an abundance of Jedi makes them much less interesting. After Anakin Skywalker being a totally unlikable character, the next biggest reason I disliked the prequels was that all of the major characters were Jedi or Sith (or Anakin's stupid punching bag of a girlfriend)

You should read Karen Traviss' Republic Commando books, WildKnight. Totally redeems the prequel era.

I've read some of them, and I love them. Great stuff, totally agreed.
For some reason there's a lot of Karen Traviss hate on the 'net though. Can't figure that one out.

Oh, man, I don't even want to get into some of the crap that goes on at some of the more prominent EU fan forums in regard to Karen Traviss hate.
One of the reasons I came back to this board is that I got sick of being associated with other Star Wars fans.

(Sorry to rib ya, man. I admire your consistency.)

Oh, no, the next Star Wars game I play in I will be Jedi. I have played in numerous RL Star Wars games and have never gotten to play the glow stick jockey. I'm always the guy that shoots straight, or can fly the transport, or can fix the transport, or modify equipment, or set a deal with a crime lord or just be useful in general because everybody else is a frickin' mystic.
Ok, so maybe it'll be a Mandalorian Jedi, but I will have my lightsaber, dammit.

*shrugs* I come from the opposite school of thought. That became obvious to me a long time ago. You just have to disagree about everything. Don't you? It's for real. Aggressive Negotiations and Star Wars: Destiny are proof of that. (...Or they were... until they got deleted.)I wouldn't say totally unlikeable, but definately very badly acted. Of course, I blame the films' Writer and Director for his technique (and terrible dialog). What about the star of Phantom Menace?! Surely yousa can't've forgottens about Jar Jar Binks!! Besides, Padme' wasn't a character so much as a plot point. Personally, if I wanted to be a pilot, a soldier, or a mechanic, I would be, but I know full well that I've never be able to shoot lightning from my fingertips or pull a laser sword into my hand from across the room. That's why I role-play it. Overall, the Jedi aren't very interesting characters, but they are the most essential part of the Star Wars universe. (And the fact that they get powers means everyone wants to play as them. I'm not immune to that.)

No, Anakin was totally unlikable. It wasn't the acting.
Anyone who murders dozens of people and justifies it by saying "they were animals!" is a piece of crap. The best ending possible for Episode 2 would have been Yoda decapitating Anakin when he got back, like he did to that jabrone clone trooper on Kashyyyk
As far as "everyone" wanting to play Jedi... thats exactly my point. That attitude is lame.
"If I can't throw lightning, I'm not playing!"

No, Anakin was totally unlikable. It wasn't the acting. Unlikeable to you, perhaps. Not to me. Sorry, but the truth is, I think he had some good moments. That's not fact, but it is my opinion. (Next thing I know you'll probably try to convince me that chocolate tastes horrible.)I mostly agree with that. But I've known some people who have "overreacted" (to put it mildly) in stressful situations. Besides, it's not like the Tuskens were saints or anything. They kidnapped his mom and killed her (allowed her to die from her wounds... same difference) after doing God knows what else to her... *shudder* Some of them probably weren't that bad, but still... (THERE IS A MASSIVE SPOILER JUST AHEAD FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NEVER SEEN OR KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT STAR WARS!! READ ON AT YOUR OWN RISK, ALTHOUGH YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS BY NOW!) Also, he's Darth Vader!! The fact that you don't like him is a good thing! If you did like him, that would probably say something disturbing about you, (much how it says something disturbing about me). False. That would not have been a possible ending for Episode II, because then he wouldn't have become Darth Vader, and the Original Trilogy could never have happened. (Sorry, I nerded out for a moment there.)It's equally lame to insist on being the ship's pilot. "What do mean he's the pilot?! Then I'm going home!" It's lame whenever someone insists on getting to play ANY type of character. But I'd say that a GM insisting that someone can't play the type of character they want is also lame especially if someone (Luke) gets to be the only one with those powers. See it all differently if you like, but there's no reason to waste more energy arguing about it.

Actually, after seeing the whiney little child that Anakin was (as a supposed adult), I would RATHER have had him not turn out to be Darth Vader. I would rather have Lucas pull a "Sixth Sense" surprise ending and have Mace Windu become Darth Vader. At least then its logical. The fact that Darth Vader was nothing but an enormous spoiled child was a huge disappointment to me.
As far as people insisting they HAVE to be the pilot or they won't play... I've never encountered that, and I think its awfully sad that you try to pretend that having powers be rare is a bad idea. How lame would Arthurian Legend be if, instead of mortal knights using steel and strength, everyone was a wizard who lived backwards through time?
UNIQUENESS is a good thing.
