Steve wished he could understand what this guy was feeling, but the truth was he had volunteered for what had been done to him. He couldn't imagine having it forced on you.
"I'll help you look, but... what is it you plan to do, if you do find Deathlok?" He really hoped this wasn't going to an ugly place; if what this guy said was true, then Deathlok was every bit as much "Luther Manning" as this clone was, and deserved to live all the same.

"Wha? Huh? Oh!"
"Thank you, Cap. The only thing that seems to give me any sense of reality is keeping tabs on my original."
"A-According to the scanner, we need to go through these doors."
They're locked, but the material doesn't look like anything that Captain America's shield can't handle.

SHRAKFunny. Here Steve Rogers is in a situation that would have any normal person scared witless. Captain America could be walking into a death-trap. The man beside him could be a deadly enemy. Yet Cap feels safe... secure... for the first time tonight. Secure--in the heart of danger?Captain America's Health: 4/4 Captain America's Energy: 12/12

The soldier in him understood why it was he felt more at home here, than going to meet Bernie's parents. Here, the danger was only physical, and the only thing he could really lose was his life.
Keeping an eye on his "companion", he proceeded with as much stealth as he could muster.
