Rogue
Still a bit shaken by her earlier "resounding" defeat at the hands of the Phoenix, Rogue looked helplessly at the screen, then at her teammates. She wanted to ask what they could do, if anybody had a plan, who the hell was that redhead exactly...

...but right now, she couldn't. As tough as nails as she wanted to believe that she was, this was just too much. So many deaths, so much destruction... and Scott's dad had just died right in front of them. The words just couldn't come out of her mouth.

Nightcrawler crossed himself, "Verzeihen Sie uns, Lord..." He looked over to Kitty, for a moment he considered trying to touch her, to comfort her, but he felt she would not be comforted by his presence. "What can we do?" He almost asked this question rhetorically, but he had no idea where to go from here.

Finally, after a long moment of silence, Rogue managed to say a few words, and ask a couple of the questions that kept showing up in her thoughts.
-"What do we do"?... I say the right question is "What anyone can do against that"? I just tried fighting her, all y'all saw what happened! Just who was that, anyway?

"An old friend." Storm said simply. For a moment, she remained silent. She couldn't speak without revealing her fear, her doubt, a whirlwind of emotions. But she was outwardly calm. The others needed her to be calm now, more than ever. She knew what to do before Ariel even asked. "The Avengers. Call the Avengers." The Avengers were their best bet for help.

Rogue looked at the screen with a slight frown, yet with slightly renewed hope. Last time she and Captain America met was as enemies... but if anyone could assist the X-Men against a threat such as the Phoenix... it was them.

Nightcrawler silently leaves the real diplomacy to Storm. He is silently reverent, he had heard whispered tales of the legendary Captain's prowess, since some of his Bavarian cohorts had been on the receiving end of his mighty shield. But as part of a gypsy circus, Kurt personally didn't know any party members, except maybe as part of the angry mob that tried to lynch him. He can definitely tell that Cap is a good, honorable, man, just by looking at him. But he tries not to think too hard of what the Captain might think of him...

Piotr steps back into the shadows. He doesn't want Captain America to see his identity. Not that it really makes a difference. He also doesn't want to transform into Colossus and attract Captain America's attention. He allowed Storm to communicate with the Avenger.

"Hello Cap. I'll skip the plesantries, we don't have time to waste. A little bit ago, we were attacked, by the Phoenix. The Professor has been knocked out, and the Phoenix herself defeated us easily. Then, apparently, she attacked the Corsair's ship..." She closed her eyes, then said, sadly, "And apparently destroyed it. If the transmission is correct, they didn't survive. This is beyond our abilities, Cap, and you were the first person I thought of. We need your help."

Before Storm can finish giving Captain America what details she can, the ground starts to shake! Is it an earthquake?! The screen goes blank! The transmission has been broken! Out the window, the X-Men see a giant fire-bird where Manhattan should be! For a creature who once consumed a world--five billion innocent souls--destroying a city is child's play. After the earth stops shaking, Kitty patches into a military satellite for an aerial view of New York. There is nothing left. Manhattan is a cauldron of molten rock--the land burns where the magma touches it and the sea boils. Avengers, Fantastic Four, Dr. Strange--even the Morlocks, in their underground caverns--all of who might have helped them, none are left. Thanks to Dark Phoenix, the X-Men are quite alone.
