This is my character in Andrew's
Age of Awesomness Age of Apocalypse. I chose a character who didn't really have much spotlight in the mainstream universe, but who could be interesting, if he was written better and wasn't killed off quickly. I tried to make Joseph so much more than just a de-aged and brainwashed Magneto's copy. Hopefully I succeeded at it. I remember being unsure whether or not to give my character Unlimited manipulation/creation, because most GMs I played with didn't really take it into consideration, giving it almost exactly the same possibilites as normal Manipulate/create option. But I don't regret it at all. Joseph was able to pull off some incredible stunts and while I truly love Mastery of Magnetism's 'barrier' (mobile force field with defense = 2x stones put;
1 stone per panel to maintain!!), the thing I love most about this Action is that I can let my creativity run wildly! Lodestone managed to overload a Madri priest's energy weapon (which seemed to be capable of energy absorption, so he detonated all of it and shaped it like a small bomb)... Also, I gave him Energy Absorption (limited to electromagnetic spectrum cold and heat), because I saw Magneto and Polaris both absorb energies thrown at them and use them to infuse themselves with them. And there's an added benefit of being able to replenish his Energy pool by absorbing enemies' attacks. All of his superpowered actions have the 'Power is dependant on physical condition' disadvantage, because Magneto's powers while psionic, they are physical condition-dependant. I chose to show that by Joseph suffering a negative sitmod if he's hurt. The more serious his injuries, the lesser power he can direct.
Joseph started out as a Hellion student in the Frost's Academy and because of unleashing a very powerful magnetic wave at the attacking Omega Prime, his brainwashing was kind of 'destroyed', so he was taken to the Providence Temple to 'repair his mind'. And so just recently Joseph changed a bit, back to his fully 'evil' persona (which is
NOT 'stupid evil', but 'clever evil' - he knows values of his team - Hellions and while he believes himself to be one of the most powerful, he knows that a team of mutants is far more powerful than a single unit... if you know how to direct them). Now that both Jetstream - the older Hellions' leader and Scion/Hellion - the younger Hellions' leader are both gone, he has stepped into this position... and boy, I'm having so much fun with designing strategy! Never thought I would be enjoying being a leader actually. Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork!
So, yeah, Joseph is one of my favourite characters

Modifiers:Wealth: -1
Mental defence: (+4)
Magneto’s potential: (+6)
- works like Psycho-Centric Power Template, but it applies only to Mastery; using this modifier requires a special device created by Mrs. Frost for Joseph to be able to control his abilities
Magnetic sense: 4
- as Sonar Senses, but limited to metallic objects
Enhanced vision: 6
- electromagnetic spectrum
Equipment:Vibranium gauntlets- needed to control his vast abilities (mechanically, without it he can’t use Magneto’s potential without risking his powers flaring out of his control)
- Kinetic Absorption:
-- Vibranium is known for its powerful absorption abilities, especially kinetic energy absorption. These Vibranium-made gauntlets give Joseph additional defence due to their hardness.
-- Armour modifier: (+3)
Challenges:Mutant AmnesiaJoseph cannot remember any of the events that led him to the Apocalypse’s services… maybe that statement isn’t entirely correct, because he does remember that his life began ‘normally’, but because the treacherous rebels killed his family, he had to live all by himself. That is when he was found by Mrs. Frost and her Hellions… Of course, all of this is just a one, big telepathic lie, projected into his thoughts.
Considered ‘extremely precious’- Joseph is a center of attention, really. Not in a good meaning though. Because of being a Magneto’s genetic copy, he is one of few ultimate weapons at Apocalypse’s disposal and so the High Lord wouldn’t like to loose his anti-Magneto, because even in the metallic heart of the immortal mutant there is a miniscule spark of anxiety that the leader of X-Men could overthrow him. That is why he handed him over to Adrienne Frost, whose goal was to make him into a truly ultimate weapon.
Hunted pastLiving in the Age of Apocalypse alone makes it very likely to have a terrible past, but Joseph had more than that – he was artificially created using Magneto’s blood by the Horseman of Death’s servant, Astra and then quickly aged into teenager years, so his mutant genes would activate. This led to him ending up being a part of the younger team of Hellions.
Power dangerous to self and othersNot only he is very young, but also an extremely capable psionic. He inherited all of his genetic template’s mutant abilities – the complete control over electromagnetic spectrum, but unlike the original, he has not had time to learn how to make use of it or how to contain it within himself without burning him out. His abilities are both very powerful and dangerous, to him because they require a lot of energy (that is why he prefers to first absorb energy from other sources), and to others, because without his special gloves (made from vibranium) he wouldn’t be able to manipulate energies precisely and ‘safely’.
Deadly enemy (Astra) Astra may not be his nemesis per se, but it doesn’t make her less dangerous… the worst is that Joseph has no idea what his enemy is up to. Even more, he doesn’t realize that she even exists or even more that she is plotting against him. He was brainwashed and though that process any of his memories containing her were erased from his mind.
Deadly enemies (X-Men)Having crossed their way and being a clone of their leader, doesn’t help his cause. However, they are more likely to forgive him… if he regains his memories, of course. Because, as it is right now, he wouldn’t be really into joining the bunch of rebels.
Biography:The man called Joseph is a clone of Magneto – the leader of the rebels known as the X-Men. He was created in secret by Astra, the Horseman of Death’s servant, using blood of the master of magnetism, but not to serve the High Lord… He was to become an Astra’s wildcard, the one on whom she could rely in dire situations… and her ultimate weapon against her one and true enemy – Magneto. She vowed an oath of vengeance and would do anything to accomplish that… and who was better to do the dirty work than the Magneto himself? Her creation, later named Joseph, was her way of making sure her dreams come true.
She copied all of Magneto’s genetic traits – his appearance, his X-Gen and through some experiments she also included a genius-level intellect and the master of magnetism’s memories and knowledge in the boy for him to be able to make better use of his powers. Due to the fact that she didn’t want to wait a few years for her clone to grow up, she artificially aged him into adolescence, because it was the age when mutants manifest their abilities. She patiently waited for the boy – of course, while training him – for his magnetic powers to erupt. They did. She was content about her creation and quickly send to fight off the X-Men… or rather Magneto.
At first, X-Men were shocked by seeing a 15-year old version of their leader, but as it seemed he wasn’t on their side. He was against them and he did best to show them that. Especially his genetic template. Without self-made limits that Magneto put on his own abilities, he was able to manipulate full electromagnetic spectrum without any restraint, overcoming the powerful mutant. Fortunately for Erik, his wife, Rogue came to his help and by combining magnetic abilities of the two of them, they managed to injure the white-haired boy with a huge metal pillar… It became clear that wounds and injuries were increasing the strain on his body to the point where his body screamed in agony. Without any chance to stand against the X-Men, he was defeated, but he couldn’t be taken with them… or rescued by his creator, because he was found by a group of Infinites who informed Holocaust and through him also Apocalypse of the boy generating such a huge amount of electromagnetic energy.
It was then that Apocalypse made his decision about the boy. He was to be brainwashed by the High Lords’ priests called Madris and taken to Mrs. Frost for a special tutoring in her Hellions. He needed the boy if a threat of Magneto’s rebels’ revolution ever arises. He would be his ultimate weapon.
During his time as a Hellion, he was named Joseph Lean and indoctrinated in Apocalypse’s beliefs. He received a great dose of training that made him discover his abilities… but without Magneto’s self-put blocks, he was straining himself too quickly and also he generated much more energy than he needed. Sometimes, he used too much concentration and caused a havoc by loosing control over electromagnetic fields. That was why Mrs. Frost ordered him to wear special gloves made for him. They were strengthened with Vibranium – in hopes of absorbing various energies generated by him to let him use his full potential whenever he wanted.
His mutation didn’t stop growing, but thanks to his Vibranium gauntlets he is able to control it… the worst for Apocalypse is that Joseph started to slowly ‘brush off’ the brainwashing thanks to his increased abilities. The more he absorbs electromagnetic energy (especially electricity), the weaker the resident psychic influence becomes… That means that he began to have flashbacks of his life as an agent of Astra, but also of a man known as Magneto (he does not realize that these are Magneto’s memories yet)…
