Right! Time to build some characters. Okay, for starters, this is just for the Tier 4 (40+10 stone) characters. That means Dio, Roc, Goats, Zieg, and Black Sam. Obviously, you have 40 stones and up to 10 Challenges to work with. You can talk about the concepts you want to try out, and hopefully you guys can work together to build a solid team without too much overlap. A little overlap is okay - practically necessary, really - but I want everyone to feel that they have their own role. In terms of concepts, I'm looking for regular people who just happen to have super powers or some other quality that makes them special and gives them the potential to be a super hero. That means you'll probably have a job, a family, friends, hobbies, etc. You probably have somewhere to be during the day, but hopefully you can find some way to fit in patrols. It's a-okay to pick a job that happens to be convenient for a super hero - in fact, please don't choose something like "brain surgeon", that is almost impossible to get away from. lol That would totally suck. If you have any questions, ask away. Meanwhile, let's hear what you guys have in mind! ~TWF

Hmmmm... I was thinking about being the Inventor type. Kinda Batman-esque in a way. Regular guy, lots of gadgets, loads of money, probably starts out doing the superhero thing for kicks, and winds up really finding something to believe in doing it. IE... Tony Stark... kinda. I like rich inventors for one reason. Laboratories... they can have laboratories that help them with their work.
As for background... I think living parents would be a nice twist. Don't know if I'll have them in the "know" or be completely surprised, but I think I'll definitely be taking the "Secret Identity" flaw... if it is still a flaw... which I don't think it is... I'm to lazy to look right now.
Maybe a Williams-esque older brother figure, and antagonist that knows about my nightly activities and holds it over my head in exchange for inventions to make his life easier. Automatic stuff... stupid stuff that takes time away from his new hobby/toys.
As for him, he's rich, he's daredevil-ish and has alot of brains to back it up with cool gadgets. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If that fails, I'd like to remake my Jade Guardian character from the old O:aM game. She's basically Supergirl with a family making unique uses of the Metamorphosis and Generic Modifiers to give her the ability to do all the stuff Supergirl would normally do from being Bullet Proof to stopping trains.

I like the sound of the Batman meets Tony Start idea. I can imagine a coocksure kind of guy looking at his inventions and thinking "I wonder just how much ass I could actually kick if I just amped the power up on this and put a disruptor canon on that..".
My Powered Armor character in WK's Avengers Reborn game considered her job on the new Avengers to mostly just be an opportunity for her to test drive her crazy hardsuit. What fun is building weapons if you don't have anyone to shoot them at? Maybe your guy has a similar attitude towards being a super hero.

That's what I was thinking for him. Kinda like what if Batman had a sense of humor, or a sense of whimsy.

I'm thinking I want to cover the magical/mystical with my character, but with a few fun tweests thrown in for fun. So heres my thoughts on him in a nutshell
I want him to have had a very volatile and somewhat kinetic relationship during the classic mafia years in NYC, which i believe is the prohibition era if Im not mistaken. His relationship in question is with a gypsy woman, and he basicaly breaks her heart. As a result she forces upon him real responsibility, sort of like a magical geas by telling him to get a real job, and he ends up being the "Hunter" or some such title, basicaly the guy that kills the paranormal things(using big words tonight....)
Ever since then he's made his way into the underground magical community of NYC, and his day job is that of a cab driver. No one really pays attention to the cabby, even if does have an odd odor about him! He's mean to be a kind of mafia goon turned reluctant hero, and he approaches this geas that his old dame put on him with a very blue collar and somewhat grumpy attitude.
Demons on fifth again? Ahh hell and I was thinking of bowlin' tonight.....wait that gives me an idea!
At his core he IS a bit of a brute, and the only thing holding back his magical potential is his own stubborness
Hows that for 1 in a million?

That sounds like a pretty awesome character dude. So he's an immortal bruiser that's been mystically charged with protecting the innocent? Sorta?

Those both sound like cool ideas. I'm glad we get to hash things out like this -- I do a lot of idea bouncing to weed out ... well, the crap ... sometimes what seems like pure awesomeness at first ... anywho ...
I have a few thoughts. I usually have a few random concepts bouncing around in my noggin, looking for a way out, none of which are necessarily related:
1) I've been itching to play an iconic superhero, someone Superman-esq.
2) A guy who's life was turned upside down with a false conviction and incarceration, even his family and friends thought he was guilty. He gains these amazing abilities years later and, knowing there's nothing he can do to redeem his name, he invents a new one...
3) My signature character in a couple RL campaigns who's itching to be reinvented yet again, Mongoose. He's had slightly different backgrounds and abilities, but is your basic scrapper/ninja type.
4) Light. That's his name. Mastery powers, unlimited creation, making constructs out of solid light. Think cool thoughts, like Tron light-bikes, glowy armor, etc.
Any thoughts or criticism are welcome! Help me weed things out a bit so I can focus!

Here is the bio for Angel Johnson. Her CAD is in the archives.***
Lacking a father figure, and raised by an indifferent crack-whore mother, Angel Johnson was a thug who roamed the streets committing every sort of petty crime. Having been on her own since her early teens, she inevitably fell in with some of the most dangerous and abusive MS-13 gang bangers. She was well on her way to a life of crime, prostitution, drug use, and inevitably, death.
All of that changed when “the Angel” appeared.
Strung out on junk, beaten and abused by a gang of her own cohorts, Angel stumbled into the abandoned rectory of the decrepit “Church of Mary Magdalene,” a fringe sect that never quite took root. As her life oozed out of her, she had the sense of some sort of divine presence in the room. She couldn’t say exactly what it was – a presence, a voice, something. It communicated, wordlessly, but powerfully. It gave her peace. And a choice. Live, and make a difference in the lives of those like her. Or die unknown, another statistic of the harsh streets.
Angel drifted for three days in that state of half-life. Sometime late on the third day, she awoke, her wounds healed, the stuff out of her system -- and armed with a vast array of sensory powers (including the occasional visitation of “the Angel,” a “voice” manifest as a compulsion to act in certain ways). She spent the next few years training, exploring her powers, and getting on her feet for the first time. She inevitably became involved in minority causes, and occasionally used her powers to directly influence events.
As her abilities continue to manifest themselves more strongly, she felt the strong compulsion of the Voice to devote her time and energies full-time to setting an example for all those like her. She has therefore taken on the role of the "Street Angel," a highly visible symbol of what one can become when one slays her demons. When she's not taking on the thugs and dealers personally, she works alongside others at a local halfway house for girls.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Angel Johnson is trim and athletic, but nowhere near human perfection. Her prowess in combat is attributable to her enhanced senses, which allow her to “map” out her actions prior to executing them.

To help keep track of things (for my own sake at least):
40+10
Dio - Inventor/Gadgeteer - Invention, wealth, technology, INT
Goats - Mystical Bruiser - STR?, Mastery of Magic?
Zieg - Versatile Leader - Metamorph/Transform Self, STR & DUR, AGL & SPD, Flight & FB
Sam - Master - Mastery of Light
Roc - Gravity Armor - Power Armor, FB, Acro/Leaping, Wall-Crawl, Ref. Dodge
20+10
honest - Divine Guardian - Enhanced Senses, Precog, RC & CC
-------------------------------------------- If I remember right, some of the big ticket items for testing is Invention, Mast. of Elements, Metamorph, and Telepathy options (and anything else TWF mentions, hehe).
Initially, I was leaning toward a limited gravity mastery, enhanced by gear and acrobatics, but I've been considering something like Ricochet from Marvel. I'm flexible with my powerset for the most part, though, so I'll try to fill in some gaps later.
As for my concept:
A college student living on his own in the big city, just trying to earn an education. His powers were largely used for personal benefit, such as making his job easier/faster/more efficient.
After the fall of the Steel Sentinel, though, he was traveling on the subway when a bunch of gang members assault a fellow subway traveler. Without SS, he realized, the victim was going to suffer. Taking a risk, he unleashed his power to incapacitate the ruffians. Enjoying the rush of using his powers and saving the day, he realized the potential he had for protecting the innocent. Starting with the areas he knew, primarily the subway, he began cleaning up the railways, making it safe once again for travelers from gang violence and muggings.
I just realized it's 4 in the morning, so I'll be back later this afternoon.

I'm reminded to remind you guys: This is a "big city" sort of game, and a lot of storylines will involve responding to crimes and disasters when they occur, or going out patrolling for them. That means it's probably a good idea to have a good movement rate of some kind (flight, wall-crawling, web-slinging, superhuman speed, or even just really good Vehicle Operation and a sweet motorcycle or something). Individual ideas I haven't covered yet: Goats: Mystical bruiser guy sounds great! It will be good for me as a GM to have a character with a connection to the magical stuff. That always adds a lot of potential plot hooks. ^__^ I'm not testing a Mastery of Magic yet, but you can take just about any Action and call it magic. What sort of actions and stuff were you thinking of? You might want to explore some special equipment, too: bigass magical sword, and maybe a shield and/or armor or some such. A mystical guy might also be a good qualifier for the new Henshin modifier, especially if he has a lot of gear that he doesn't always want to be carrying around (his gear can appear as part of his henshin). Just ideas - let me know what you have in mind! Sam: Those ideas all sound great! The hardlight constructs could be taken care of largely with Force Fields, or we can choose some similar options for a Mastery of Light. We could try to work in something like Illusions, too. The new version I've written is designed to be really flexible. #2 sounds like a good backstory for this kind of game. With the world suddenly in need of masked heroes, now is a good time for someone to reinvent themselves. Roc: Get some sleep, dude! ^__^ I like your concept - you can explain Ricochet-like powers with a connection to gravity manipulation. You could easily explain a leaper modifier and even wall-crawling as being caused by gravity manipulation (imagine him reversing or angling gravity in his location, allowing him to stand or run comfortably on walls or even on ceilings!). An actual Mastery of Gravitation could multiply local gravity, making people feel several times their normal weight, which would make movement very hard, etc. Lots of ideas to play around with. Gotta run for now - keep the brainstorming going. ~TWF

For the record, Angel's abilities are (the precog is TWF's mechanism for making my character's life "interesting") ;-) :
Acrobatics 3 (1w) -AGL bonus
Combat - Close 4 (2w) AGL bonus SPECIALTIES: Street Fighting Improvised Weapons "Sense Combat" (see "Psychic Sonar," below)
Combat - Ranged 4 (2w) SPECIALTIES: Throwing Knives Pistols "Sense Combat" (see "Psychic Sonar," below)
Social Skills 4 (2w) SPECIALTIES: Hersh gangs Minority Empowerment Groups Charity organizations Petty criminals
Gang Skills 3 (2w) -Gang Signs/Graffiti -Hotwiring cars -Breaking and entering
Vehicle Operation 4 (2w) SPECIALTIES: Automobiles Motorcycles Bicycles
[MODIFIERS] [8w] ========================= "Sense Combat" 2 (4w) -Generic Modifier to Close Combat (+3CL) -Modifies Ranged Combat (+1 CL) Angel's "Psychic Sonar" ability allows her to "map" her surroundings, thus giving her an advantage in melee combat.
Defense, Mental +2 (0w, 2r)
Defense, Magical +2 (0w, 2r)
"Psychic Sonar" 4 (1w) -Limited Range (2) (-1CL) -Angel's mind sends out constant "pings" that allow her to "mind-map" her immediate environment, and enables her “Sense Combat”
Vision, Enhanced 2 (1w, 1r) -20/10 vision -See Auras (magical, personal); this option requires concentration
“Voice of the Angel” Precognitive Flashes 0 (0w, 1r) Angel will sometimes experience strange compulsions or feelings or varying intensity. Sometimes, they are just vague impressions. Other times, they manifest as intense emotions. She is capable, with intense concentration, of soliciting information from “the Voice” in the form of sound and images. She is loathe to do this, however, as the effort is incapacitating (requires most, if not all of her energy , and leaves her drained for an indeterminate period of time [basically, the better the information, the longer the GM keeps her more or less incapacitated, other than rudimentary communication).
EQUIPMENT: Pistol Throwing Knives (6)

Hey Black Sam, you could always combine number 1 and 2. I mean in your daytime guise you're a nobody who everyone thinks is a criminal. In your super hero guise you're this iconic superhero who everyone adores. It'd be like the Sentry... On side is a nobody, the other is Superhuman.
