Maybe it's blasphemy, but I've never really cared for the Green Lantern. But Ryan Reynolds is awesome and that looked pretty okay.
But ugh, Blake Lively. She's awful.

Blake Lively is... ? (The female lead I'm guessing)
I'm a big fan of GL and I have almost no hope for this movie to do anything other than suck. You don't cast a comedic actor to play a character whose primary character trait is an utter lack of humor.
I just don't get why they couldn't have made it Kyle Rainier instead. Ryan Reynolds is perfectly suited to play him.

I think RR can pull off the brash pilot shtick pretty well, and evolve the character into serious and responsible. Anywho, this looks pretty awesome...

I'm sure he can pull off a brash pilot. The problem is that Hal Jordan was never brash, or c0cky, or any of the other things I've seen the movie producers describe him as.
Just because a guy is a pilot doesn't make him automatically Maverick. Hal Jordan was always more the steady soldier type, a backbone member of the JLA (a lot like John Stewart was portrayed in the JLA and JLU cartoons). Even as The Spectre, Hal Jordan was a guy who was never really conscious of the cool factor of his powers and job. He was just another soldier doing his job. Thats what I've always liked about him.

It feels like they're going to kinda mush all the Green Lanterns into one character, for simplicity's sake.

Not the first time that's happened. Comic book John Stewart was nothing like JLA/U John Stewart. They essentially used Jordan's personality (though he was a Marine instead of a pilot), and Kyle Rainier in the comic books was a pretty obvious attempt to fuse Jordan's everyman likability with Guy Gardener's youthful attitude.

The TV version is even less like the original. They spell his name "Jon" and instead of being a super hero, he hosts a fake news show and sometimes the Emmys.

Mwahahaha! Exactly the reactions I was going for. Best 3 minutes I ever spent. I can't believe I couldn't find a picture like that in a Google image search. Maybe I'll dress up as Green Lantern Jon Stewart for Hallowe'en next year!
