I love snow, but if it wants to loiter on my property all day long it can damn well pay some rent.

You should've seen the snow in Poland. Roads are paralyzed and its friggin cold and slippery. And to make matters worse- I have to go around the entire city delivering documents T_T Wish me luck, I might not go back one of these days.

In Michigan, you either learn to deal with snow or you leave. A lot of people I know complain about it, and I don't get that. You live with what you're given, and we're given snow LOL
Personally, although there are a ton of places I'd love to visit, but there's nowhere I'd rather live.

I'm more likely to complain about half-assed snow removal than the snow itself. I enjoy shoveling the driveway (it's good exercise, and it works muscle groups that I don't usually get to work through swimming) but I don't like having to do the sidewalks because the city hasn't gotten around to it yet. There are several elderly people on my block who don't drive, and sometimes it's a pretty dangerous walk up down to the nearest bus stop.
Doing the whole sidewalk is too much for me on my own. It's okay if it only snows once a week or something, but when we get a half foot every night for 8 or 9 nights in a row, my back implodes.

It should be done efficiently *shrugs* For some odd reason, where I live, the city is much more interested in enforcing ordinances requiring snow removal by private entities (apartment complexes, business parking lots, etc) than they are in handling the snow removal they're responsible for (public streets).

Our taxes pay for that, but in some years they haven't spent enough. Often after a high-profile accidental death (like a university professor getting run over or something) the city suddenly pumps lots of money into snow removal, but I'd like to see my city be a little more proactive than that. *sigh*
Sometimes they contract out guys, but the contractors are annoying. They only plow what they're paid to plow - which makes sense, but it's frustrating to see them drive 10 miles down a snowy road with their plow up because it ain't their job. The city guys are less discriminating, and just do everything. Sometimes they get a little redundant, but if it keeps my grandma from needing hip surgery, then fine. lol
The roads are usually pretty well done; it's really the sidewalks that have been a problem. They've been much better about it in the last few years, but there is still room for improvement. And there's opposition, too, mostly from people who hate it when the little sidewalk plows tear up their grass by accident.

I run into the same attitude in Connecticut. Seriously folks if snow is that vile, move south, there really are some very nice states down there.

Heh, in the States (or here at least), the sidewalks are our problem. I don't know of any city that does sidewalk snow.

Wish they would. And I wish they would stop throwing snow in my driveway with their plows right after I just finishe shoveling it.

I bet if you convince your fellow taxpayers to foot the bill, your city will be happy to plow your sidewalks.
I used to be on the city council here. You'd be amazed at the stuff that people can get sent to a committee for review with just a few signatures.

I guess I should explain somethings. We normally don't get a lot of snow days in the Netherlands. It's usually just a few per year, no more than 10 or so, I guess. Last winter we had about 40 days of snow. That's pretty unusual. One of the biggest problems back then where the railroads. Railroad switches where frozen up, and trains just didn't show up. This time it's worse. (already) The Dutch Railways have acquired new trains this year. Unfortunately, those trains have a tendency to malfunction. It's mostly the doors that jam. And yes, these problems get worse when it freezes and/or snows... So yesterday I've had to wait 20 minutes, today I've had to wait 30 minutes, and when a train finally did show up it was about half the size of a normal train. Usually 8 trains leave the station in one hour. Imagine reducing that to 1. (This was one of the less problematic areas. You don't want to be in Utrecht right now)
Whee! Snow is Fun!
