[quote author=kidmarvel board=chatter thread=13237 post=252408 time=1291405741 lol, so in other words you think it's okay to just believe whatever, and interpret what you read however you want regardless of what the text actually says, because if you don’t read verbatim that’s exactly what you’re doing. I've seen this happen time and time again. However this is a debate for another time. I’ve got an internetworking book I have to read now. Finals are week after next. Uh... no. That's exactly my point. It's NOT okay to take a passage or statement, decide what you think it means, and roll with it.[/quote] Why not? I cant have my own opinion, thoughts, and ideas? Sick....

Why not? I cant have my own opinion, thoughts, and ideas? Sick.... Wow, you and F-Bomb will get along really well... neither of you has any respect for the context under which a statement is made, apparently.

I get along with everyone and even you to an extent. It's not that I don't have respect for the statement, but as a matter of fact that is exactly what people do. Okay, or not okay is a nothing more than an opinion, and if enough people with the same opinion get together about such things new denominations are formed.
Such a way of thinking is no different from ignoring what is actually said, and replacing it with your own thoughts or feelings. True orthodox believes believe the text explicitly, and nothing else. I am not one of these people, but I do understand how the different demonization’s work.
See, when you say “That’s what it says but not what it means,” It’s no different from anyone else doing what you accuse them of doing by saying they are cherry picking verses, and say the text is not to be taken by verbatim. If you believe something was indeed powerful enough to create the universe then you should believe it was also smart enough to have its word written up the way it meant for it too, and wouldn’t have to assume that you would know more and have to do guess work by knowing what it meant rather than believing the text.
The truth is neither way is the orthodox way, and by their opinions we would both be wrong, but for different reasons. We’re both gentiles, or infidels. We just go about it a different way.
I just happen to admit that I don’t know rather than assuming I do know, and don’t give people grief over believing differently than I do as much. It's cool people are different, and that's what makes the world interesting. If everyhting was the same the world would be boring.

And you're context isn't exactly specified so...
