X-wing Alliance was the last. And no offense, but I seriously doubt that just because they went joystick only on those games was the cause for the Star Wars flight sims downfall. . I didn't say it was "just because" they went joystick. I do, however, feel that it was a significant contributing factor. If your family could afford any kind of decent joystick back then, you weren't that poor. I'm sure my family could have afforded one, too, but it would have meant choosing between that and something else that was probably a lot more important. And I'm hardly the only person I knew that didn't have a joystick for their computer at that time. But I'm not really talking about the cost of owning one. I'm talking about the preference not to USE one. I hate the things.

Ah, my mistake. Oh well. It'd be nice if they did re release X-wing or tie series, but they'd probably fill it with a bunch of the prequel crap.

I worked and saved up my own money for toys/games, etc, when I was a kid; while I had the money to buy a good joystick, it would have doubled or even tripled the cost of the game itself, which wasn't worth it for me. I just kept playing Tie Fighter. ^__^
I wish they would do a remake.

Around the time that iteration was released, joystick were becoming much more prevelant in the industry. Even i had one, and we was poh folk. Although what was, i know not. I think the "No Keyboard" is a serious bummer*, but you are right I don't think it is a game killer by itself. I would have to look at old reviews to see if there were other issues. * Enough to kill some games for me, though I may be in the minority on that. WASD + Mouse = my desired play method for flight games.

I know that part of what killed that series was the fact that computers began evolving rapidly, and the game engine wasn't.
They did try to start another series of Flight Sims after Ep 1 came out, but it was unsuccessful (I never played it so I can't say much about it, but I think the general disappointment in Ep 1 itself may have played a role. On the other hand it didn't stop other Ep 1 based games from doing pretty well)

Whether they should've, well...
I have an episode 1 game, and I have to say....not that great. Sure it was only PS1, but come on, it could've been a lot better. Annoying controls, and a nasty habit of dying at random spots because you jumped in the wrong place. Not to mention trying to fight someone who had a lightsaber was far from fun.

Some things will always see at least mild success if you stamp a popular name on them.

I'm waiting for the new Mechwarrior. Complete reboot of the universe + major graphical upgrade? Hell yeah.

I'm starting to feel like "reboot" is becoming something companies do to stir up interest in a dying product, rather than a way of fixing otherwise irepairable damage caused by bad decisions in the past.
In conjunction with the fact that nostalgia is starting to come into play to a nauseating degree, it creates an odd jux ta position.
