So, I finally picked this up and I am impressed. I hope they announce the other half soon.
It lists just about every hero/villain you can think of from A-K.
Has anyone else got this? What ya think?

I have it. I'm honestly not impressed with a lot of the choices they made, but I am impressed by how many characters they squeezed in.

This is for the DC adventures game yeah (the M&M 3e version)? Are there any adventures, sourcebooks (Legion, Titans, JLA etc) planned, or is it just the core book and two books of character listings and that's it?

As far as I know, it's just the core book and the 2 character books.

Ah well, I'll keep my complete collection of everything ever published for the DC Heroes RPG safe in the knowledge that it's like will never be seen again (there's loads of the stuff... some I haven't even read...)

I found DC Heroes virtually unplayable, but to each their own.

Which one was DC Heroes?
Ya, I am not sure what you mean by you were disappointing by some of the choices they made. I thought the sheer volume of characters they had was pretty awesome. They even had a lot of people I never heard off and I like how they listed all of the versions of Flash and Blue Beetle etc.

DC Heroes was put out by Mayfair games. It used a very interesting system whereby everything was measured in very specific "units" (can't remember what they were called), which made things very simple in some ways. For instance, if you had 8 units of strength, you could pick up something that weighed 8 units of weight, or pick up something that weighed 6 units of weight and toss it 2 units of distance. Unfortunately, playing the game, I never experienced very many units of fun. By choices, I mean how they chose to utilize the system to build the characters. There are several characters that I would have built very differently. Some of their builds are just plain wrong, others are stupidly inefficient.

List of the published stuff: www.waynesbooks.com/DCHeroes.htmlThe various versions: Whilst Wildknight and me might disagree on which games are good (or otherwise) this game (in all 3 incarnations) really changed the way I expected my RPGs to be presented, and in terms of Value for money, I haven't seen much - if anything - that can compare to 1st and 2nd edition. 3rd edition was a let down, simply because it was a book on its own, whereas the first two games quite literally packed so much in it was tricky to get the box shut after. The character sheets were pretty easy to read, even with characters that had a powers list as long as your arm: And every Attribute Point was worth twice as much as the one before. Where that fell down was lower powered characters tended to look the same with 3-4 strength (Green Arrow, Nightwing etc) aside from Batman, who, quite improbably, could bench press 1500lbs with his 5 strength. Hmm. I loved it. I GM'd it to death and back again, even had the odd chance to play it and thought it was great. Even now, I've struggled to find a Supers game I could love as much as this one. Marvel was forgotten about when this came along, then they upped the game with the 2nd edition, which was (in my opinion) fantastic. 3rd was rather a let down (artwork wasn't great, no colour, relatively expensive single book) and let's not mention Blood of Heroes, which took the DC Heroes system (great) and married it up with some eye bleedingly bad art and horrendous example characters. That was a missed opportunity, and the game is crying out for a retro clone (though Wildknight will probably disagree with that too - each to their own )

Aren't they still putting out Blood of Heroes for free? Same system, just w/o all the DC specific information. It was still available not all that many years ago...

And for the record, I'm just not into retro-clone systems at all. If I wanted to play an archaic system, I'd dust off the copy I already own.

The problem with systems that retro clones seek to emulate is the fat nerds who stalk ebay that make the original systems expensive or impossible to get hold of (guys at the Acaeum, I'm talking about YOU!). So, best of luck with getting hold of, say, Rules Cyclopedia (emulated by Dark Dungeons) for a reasonable price. And you're going to find it damned expensive to get hold of certain D&D boxed sets (immortals in particular) which means that the 'archaic' system will eventually die out as new players won't want to enter a bidding frenzy with a 300lb nerd who spends his time in his mothers attic stalking ebay, whilst scratching away at his authentic 'Gary style' beard.
I think there were retro clones of the Marvel Superheroes game (4c and G-Core if I recall) but they miss the point because all the original stuff is available as free PDF download. There's nothing like that for DC Heroes/MEGs, so it'll eventually die out, which is a shame.
The Blood of Heroes game is still available from Amazon (a print on demand thing I think?) and I own a couple of copies, but the art really is shit, pardon my french. Puts me off opening the damn book...

I am one of those fat guys that stalked ebay to get all of the games I loved (years ago, when I had money). *shrugs*
Personally, I don't care if the art is any good. If the game is good, I'll play it. If the rules suck, I won't.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure there was a freely distributed (over the internet) version of the DC Heroes rules. They did several licensed games (Dragonball Z) using it, but the core rules set was free on their website.

Got any links? Never heard of that rules set ever being free, wouldn't mind a copy to distribute to some players on my own play by post forum for one of the games I run on there...

I can't find any links to it with a quick google search. I'm a bit surprised, since DBZ was so ridiculously popular at the time it came out, and the old Pulsar Games website seems to be now totally dedicated to historical wargaming miniatures...
