Panic in the New York Subway! The Scorpion has taken over an IRT subway car which now rests on an abandoned sidetrack beneath 7th Avenue. The car's passengers have been chased off and are fleeing down the tunnel to the safety of a nearby platform. One passenger remains as a hostage -- Publisher J. Jonah Jameson. Scorpion has delivered an ultimatum: Spider-Man must show up within the hour or Jameson will die! The ultimatum, carried by the fleeing passengers, is quickly relayed to the offices of the Daily Bugle. Freelance photographer Peter Parker heads for the subway to get pictures of the story. Peter's true interest in the crisis is revealed as the young photographer dashes into a closet to change into the Amazing Spider-Man, and swings off for his rendezvous with the Scorpion. The intrepid wall-crawler got as close as he dared before webbing his camera up to take pictures. Wouldn't it just stick in Jolly Jonah's craw if he got pictures of Spider-Man saving the Daily Bugle editor?
Once he thought the had the camera ready, he took a deep breath and shot out a webline to approach, hoping to break in through a window and, if possible, get himself between Scorpion and Jameson!

Early in Spider-Man's career, Jonah paid for super-powered agents to be created. Mac Gargan was one such agent, intent on defeating Spider-Man. The transformation gave Gargan the proportional abilities of a scorpion, and he was fitted with a wicked tail as a weapon. The transformation, however, drove Scorpion mad. Scorpion hates both Jameson, who funded the experiment, and Spider-Man, his original target.
When Spider-Man gets close enough, he can see Scorpion and Jameson in the center of a stopped subway car. After setting up his automatic camera, Spider-Man swings to a window, but fails to break through it! [OOC: It looks like you rolled a 1, but could have used Skill Mastery [Acrobatics] instead for a guaranteed 10+12=22.] The loud crack outside the window alerts both Scorpion and Jameson of the web-head's presence, resulting in a stream of expletives from both of them!
Rolls for initiative.

"Just my luck," Peter groaned to himself, "I would screw up my big entrance." Scorpion would use that tail to come at him, Peter was sure of it, so he briefly considered letting Mac break the window for him, but if he miscalculated and Gargan decided to kill J.J. instead... Pete would feel guilty and be out of a job. Jameson was a blow hard, but he didn't deserve to die.
Spider-Man pulled back his leg and kicked at the window, hoping to break it and keep Scorpion focused on himself!

Aw c'mon Scorpy? We know how this one goes? We throw a few punches, you tear my costume, I web you up and leave you for the police. Can't we just skip straight to you going to jail?
Pete knew better than to think that Scorpion would go quietly, so he flipped himself up onto the roof the car, hoping the bars that people held when standing up might get in the way of Scorpion's tail. After all, Wall-Crawlers were more agile than faux-arachnids, right?
He took aim with his webshooters, hoping to web Scorpy up and call it a day.

Spider-Man uses Leaping and Wall-crawling to move to a spot with Partial Cover (-2 circumstance penalty to attack checks), however while Wall-crawling Spider-Man is Vulnerable halving active defense ranks (Dodge 5 and Parry 4).
Spider-Man's Web Snare Attack vs. Scorpion's Dodge 24 Attack Check vs. 18 DC Success
Scorpion's Resistance Check vs. Web Snare Affliction D20 + 8 Dodge vs. DC [3 Affliction Rank + 10] [dice=20+8] vs. 13 DC Success
Scorpion sheds the web snare like an old skin and leaps to where he can climbs onto a wall and reach Spider-Man with his tail!
Scorpion has Leaping 2, but instead of Wall-crawling, he has Skill Mastery (Acrobatics). Climbing the side of the subway car is a DC20 Athletics Check, but the climb is less than 10 feet total, so there is a -5 modifier. Therefore, Scorpion decides to add a +5 modifier to not be vulnerable while climbing. This makes the DC 20. With Scorpion's Skill Mastery (Athletics) he can automatically succeed with a 21. This now places him in a position to negate Spider-Man's Partial Cover!
RRRAAAGGGHHH!!!
Scorpion strikes out at Spider-Man with his tail!
Scorpion's Tail Attack vs. Spider-Man's Parry [dice=20+10] Attack Check vs. 14 DC Success
Spider-Man's Resistance Check vs. Scorpion's Tail Damage D20 + 6 Toughness vs. DC [10 Damage + 15] [dice=20+6] vs. 25 DC Two Degrees of Failure
Spider-Man is dazed (limited to a single standard action) until the end of your next turn and has a -1 circumstance penalty to further checks against damage.
While Spider-Man takes a beating from Scorpion, J. J. Jameson escapes out the back door of the subway car.

Well that obviously hadn't gone as well as planned.
C'mon Scorpy, you can hit harder than that! Peter sure hoped that Scorpion could not, in fact, hit harder than that.
Seeing that Jolly Jonah was escaping, Pete decided it was time to get some separation. There was no reason to go toe-to-toe with a guy like Scorpion when innocents weren't in danger. Heading back out the way he'd come in (hopefully), he attempted to put as much distance as possible between himself and the Scorpion

Alright Mac, why don't you tell your old pal Spidey what you were hoping to accomplish this time? Do you need a hug?
Keeping his distance, giving Jonah time to get away, Spider-Man launched a web bullet at Scorpy, knowing he would probably shrug it off, but also knowing that in just a moment he would be able to cut loose and end this thing quickly.

In addition to not having been smashed by Scorpion, Spider-Man's other good news is that he sees Jameson escape through the nearest subway exit, that comes up outside the Keash Mall. Unfortunately, as Scorpion lands on the ground below Spider-Man, it appears the villain has noticed the same thing as well!

His fault? Jolly Jonah makes me nauseous sometimes, but I don't think he's ever driven me to take hostages!
Hoping to bring things to a close, Spidey attempted to deliver a powerful uppercut to Scorpion before once more leaping away.

OOC: Spider-Man begins his turn on the wall, so he has to first use a Move Action to reach Scorpion before he can use his Standard Action to hit him. This means he will be unable to jump away again afterward because Spider-Man does not have the Move-By-Action Combat Advantage. also, Acrobatics is not used to "leap away", Athletics is. However, since Spider-Man has the Leaping Power it would be best t just activate Leaping as a free action and then use it to Move.
while this is what I think matches your intent, it does not allow Spidey to jump away after he hits Scorpion. So I want to confirm with you before continuing. Do you want Spider-Man to activate Leaping movement as a Free Action, use a Move Action to jump down to where Scorpion landed, and then use your Standard Action to punch him with that roll?
Note: I'm going slow because for me this is my first GMing experience with DC Adventures and I want to make sure I'm interpreting the rules manual correctly. In other words, I normally try not to get hung up on rules, but for this experiment, I'd like to. If you don't mind that is. Thank you.
