Batman snaps a quick photo of Dr. Flagg with his Miniature Camera before moving to the front door and checking if it is locked.
Thief (Stealth) 10 check to do take the photo on the sly.:

Once inside or once spotted, Batman begins his interrogation.
"Where is the nightwatchman, Dr. Flagg? Don't tell me Wayne is paying your PHD salary just to watch monitors all night. Something is up and you are going to tell me what it is."
If a Charisma (Interrogation) 12 roll is necessary, here it is.

The cameras pick Batman up and the Doctor starts slightly as he sees the dark cloaked figured come across the lawns. Batman secretly takes a good photograph of the Doctor and tests the door. Locked, but the Doctor himself is heading to the door, and opens several locks with a twist.
"Hello Batman!" he calls out. "I'm Dr. Flagg. I saw you on the monitor and just came out to assure you that everything is fine here."
"Where is the nightwatchman, Dr. Flagg? Don't tell me Wayne is paying your PHD salary just to watch monitors all night. Something is up and you are going to tell me what it is." growled the Batman.
"Oh, well sometimes the work we do here is so top secret only the scientists manning the place are allowed in. The security here is... ah. Perhaps I shouldn't say any more. As for something up...? Ah, the alarm! Yes, I accidentally set it off when my experiment created a tremendous power surge. Everything is back to normal now. Apologies for any inconvenience to you. I'm sure you have other matters to attend. I saw your famous 'bat light' in the sky only minutes ago." he says. The man appeared to be in his early thirties, slim/short build, thin hair, glasses. He wore shirt and tie, trousers, shoes and the white coat. His ID didn't show a picture - anything that gave potential saboteurs something to go at would be a weakness. Batman himself knew how well someone could be disguised if need be.
Flagg spoke up again after a momentary silent pause. "As for me watching monitors, well I must confess that John, the security guard on duty tonight suddenly took ill - probably from the unpleasant odours my experiment has been emitting - I have been assured that another guard will arrive shortly though. In the meantime my experiment has been stabilised. Wouldn't want any more mishaps. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to lock this place up good and tight. Gotham isn't known as being the safest place around, even with you 'prowling the night' as it were."
The Doctor steps back into the doorway, expectantly, waiting for the Batman to leave.

Batman still feels he's missing something here, but nothing appears more urgent than the breakout in progress at Arkham.
OOC: I'm off to the asylum!

OOC [dice=10] [dice=10]
There.
Batman turns to leave and catches it. The glint of triumph in the Doctors eyes. The Asylum beckoned, and clearly little or nothing seemed to be going on here, but a mind honed from years of training, keen enough to spot the smallest clue, any hint of duplicity, had that nagging doubt. Batmans gut instinct told him something was afoot.
Seeing the momentary pause in Batman, Flaggs face changed, with a hardening, tight pursed lip smile, replacing the polite look a second before. "I think you should leave now Batman. Thank you for your vigilance, but I have work to do and can brook no further delay. Good night."
He steps inside the doorway, and reaches to close and lock the doors.
OOC It's your call. 12 Int/Perception check fills in gaps pretty much without fail. Batman thinks something is up, if not with the scientist, then somewhere in or around this place. However, he does have the Asylum to attend to and things are never good where Arkham is concerned.[rand=99356632791316990692158569312169064608371054553975810831862014618]

Batman 'leaves' but moves to a point where he can see the building without being observed and waits, knowing full well that time is of the essence with regards Arkham and that delaying here could cost dearly in the long run. After only a minute, which seems like hours, he sees activity at the rear loading bay. The place is ring fenced by tight security, but there is an unmarked van parked at the doors. No movement outside, but a glimpse through a window caught someone else - not Dr Flagg - moving about inside.
His gut told him that Flagg was lying, and he'd attempted to mislead Batman. Without going in there, he wouldn't find out. There probably wasn't time to circumvent all the security measures without setting the alarm off, which meant the front door - confronting Flagg - if that was who he claimed to be would be the best bet.
It was either that, or wait it out, and those inside weren't rushing from the looks of things. With an eye to the sky where the Bat Signal had shone, a mental note stating how much time had passed since Gordon had flicked it on, and knowing that *something* was afoot here, Batman needed to make the hard call - confront Flagg or leave for Arkham!

Dr. Flagg didn't say he was alone here, but he did say he had been assured that another guard will arrive shortly. who would have assured him? This is Wayne's company. He aught to know who to call to follow up on that statement....as Bruce Wayne!
[OOC: If possible get to a phone and call a security office as Wayne to check if a replacement security officer has been dispatched to this location.]

Batman, sat in the Batmobile and looking through nightvision binoculars at the Wayne Tech building, taps into the computer in the car. After several voice commands, he hears the phone ringing on a secure line.
"Wayne Security Concepts. Please confirm security ID."
Batman typed in an eight digit code - the date of his parents death. Immediately the telephone was picked up. Batman pulled the throat mike which gave his voice the rasping sound away from his neck slightly. "Good evening!" he said. "Mr Wayne! This is an unexpected pleasure! How can I help you?"
"Have there been any reports of faulty alarms or requested staff to relieve absentees at Wayne Tech this evening?"
"Why, there was an alarm go off sir, but we called and a ..." flipping of papers "Doctor Flagg called and said that his experiments had set off the alarms with a power shortage. I had scheduled a couple of the guys to run by and check it out, but to be honest we get that sort of thing from the lab boys all the time."
There was a pause, more sound of paper flipping, then "No mention of relief staff though sir. John Benson is on duty. No word from him about going sick though, and John, let's see... hasn't gone sick for over two years. Those lab guys sometimes do nutty stuff though, and things go wrong - nature of the business I suppose. Is there a problem sir? I'll get someone down there right away if you need it...?"
Batman glanced through the binoculars again. He caught a distance glimpse of 'Flagg' coming into the foyer, looking through the glass panels out onto the lawns of the grounds then going back into the storage room area.
Something was most definitely afoot, and this 'Flagg' had the answers he needed!

"So no repairmen were sent to Waynetech? I called earlier and that was the story. B26354 was to keep me appraised of the situation. I've heard nothing. Get someone down there... right away!"
Bruce Wayne hangs up and Batman springs into action. Donning his Infrared Flashlight and Goggles, Batman approaches the doors nearest the unmarked van and checks to see if they are open.
More sneakiness:

Batman counts silently, thinking that he would have security beefed up by random instead of set time sweeps on the mounted cameras, even the hidden ones painted to blend into the scenery. Conscious of the dome cameras, he stuck to the shadows and moved to the rear of the building where the van was parked.
Locked.
Then he heard voices from behind the closed loading bay doors into the building "...rid of him. Huh, he's got a rep but I ain't scared! Guy in fancy dress puttin' th' willies inta grown men... I tell ya...
The sound of footsteps indicates more than a few - perhaps half a dozen - people heading this way, figures Batman, ear pressed to the loading bay doors. They were shuffling, as if struggling with something heavy.
And they'd be opening the doors, out to this fairly well lit loading bay area, in the next few moments!

Since Batman has his Infrared flashlight and goggles, he'll be better served by darkness.
Action 1 (Auto): Pull our a razorwing from his utility belt. Action 2 (Dice): Throw the razorwing at the main light source. [dice=10][dice=10] Action 3 (Auto): Move into the deepest shadow aside from the loading bay door.[rand=26801576628349723048846595920622395855451398529113523949587251991]

With practised ease, a razorwing is pulled from the belt, flicked out, then spun at the main light illuminating the loading bay.
TISH!
Batman melts into the darkness as he hears a THUD! then voices, muffled from behind the doors ...
"What was that?"
"I dunno. Did Sparky drop somethin'?"
"Hey! Sparky!" shouted another.
"Shhh! The flyin' rat might still be about!"
"hah, I like that. Rat, Flyin'. He ain't all that. Guy who thinks it's halloween every night. He shows up, I'll be his worse damn nightmare!"
There were moments of silence before another voice spoke up "We're on a schedule! What's going on?"
Moments later the loading bay doors opened, and Batman watched from the shadows as four goons - hired muscle wearing white lab coats over jeans and shirts - came into view carrying a crate, one at each corner. It was clearly heavy, and the four men were big. Batman didn't immediately recognise the men themselves, but recognised their type. Weak, money dictated their every action, and greed was interwoven with stupidity to ultimately craft their downfall.
'Dr Flagg' came into view, looking about. Another two goons appeared behind him. "Who turned out the lights?" asked one. Flagg narrowed his eyes, looking around. "Just get on with it."
"What about him?" asked one of the goons at Flaggs' side. Batman couldn't see from where he was, and was unsure of whom he was referring to. "No witnesses." said Flagg.
The goon pulled a pistol from his belt and turned to go back into the storage room as Flagg watched the goons with the crate wait whilst another unlocked the van...

Batman has to act fast to save a life!
Batman charges into the storage room, right at the goon with the pistol.
[Charging Attack = 1 Automatic Action + 1 Dice Action] [dice=10][dice=10]
Then turning around he throws a Smoke Capsule back toward the loading bay doors, so that it covers a 4000 cubic foot area including "Dr. Flagg", the goons carrying the crate and the getaway van if possible. However, Batman and hopefully the innocent he came to save will be out of the Smoke Power's area.
[The Smoke power's Type is listed as Automatic, so this is Batman's second Automatic Action.] [rand=45619389507919557393866265192628967305996688082810022309399209917]

Batman moved, dashing through the shadows with cloak held close! "Hey!" "What the hell!" "It's him!" "Geddim!" The crate clattered to the floor as goons fumbled for weapons and Batman sped past them to shoulder barge the goon with the gun! He crashes into the fellow who piles into some crates and looks about, wondering what'd happened! Batman glances down to see an unconscious, trussed guard popped against a wall! ========= OOC You inflicted 2RAPS which Goon #6 (R20 on map) soaks up with last ditch defence leaving him on 3HP. The knockback comes up with [dice=10] [dice=10] AV/EV 1 vs Goons Body (3) so inflicts no damage. It got his attention and saved the guards life though, so it's a 'win' for Batman.========= With a calm hand flicking a pouch open on the utility belt around his waist, Batman slams down a capsule which breaks with a Pffft! Gas spews out in all directions instantly, reacting with the air and creating a dense white fog that instantly fills the loading bay and hangs in the air outside! "Don't just stand there!" shouted Flagg. "Kill him!" "Kill who?" yelled another guard. "Can't see a damned thing!" ========= OOC Initiative (not much point in rolling but here it is) Batman [dice=10] Bad Guys [dice=10]. Batman goes first.
Map:
(At best, functional, but should do the job. The brown and dark brown are stacked wooden storage crates. Grey area is the loading bay doors, raised at the moment)
Proposed actions:
- Goons 2-6 all pull weapons - three have Uzis, 3 have Magnums. They will attempt to fire at the shadowy figure in the darkness to end the legend of the Dark Knight.
- Goon 1 (outside) moves to the van (not shown but within a few metres of entrance to loading bay/store room) and fire it up.
- Flagg uses a .45 automatic to shoot at the Batman
The fact that each has +2OV from Fog and are standing in the line of fine fo the guys behind is lost on them - they are criminals after all, not nuclear physicists!

OOC: Page 20 of the The Rules Manual (Knockback Damage) and page 36 of the The Character Handbook (Gravity) both state that most human Characters weigh 2 APs. Is the goon Batman charged an exceptionally massive goon? I just want to determine a baseline for Knockback which occurs pretty often. I prefer to assume 2 APs weight for characters unless the character is exceptionally heavy or light.
This also came up for Captain Britain. OHOTMU has CB (Scepter version) at 170 lbs. (5' 11") and OHOTMUDE has the magic armor version at 180 lbs (5' 11"). So Captain Britain in the Daily Bugle weighs 2 APs. NOTE: OHOTMUME that came out in the 90s has CB at 257 lbs (6' 6"), but that is later than the Daily Bugle 80s time. OHOTMUME also has CB's strength at Superhuman Class 100. So that version of the character would be 3 APs, but the 6' 6" height communicates fair warning that this taller, stronger CB would be an exception to the baseline 2 APs of weight for a Character.
