We got ourselves a "final" trailer right here:
Feels maybe too derivative, even all things considered, but it could work.

I just don't see how it could possibly work. They have set up absolutely nothing, and yet are promising a huge finale. A huge finale to what? Rey and Ben don't really matter, the First Order is crippled, the Resistance serves no purpose, and no one cares about the Force. The Skywalker Saga ended a long time ago, and this trilogy has been little more than a high-budget fan fiction cringefest with zero planning, cohesive plot, or deeper meaning beyond the continued sale of crappy toys to middle-aged children chasing the fading high of a 40 year-old cult classic. It's pretty yikes. Also me: Lowkey pumped about The Mandalorian, though.

Characters I don't care about, not sure what the fight is about anymore, the last film in the series guided my interest directly off a cliff.
And yet... it's Star Wars. It has Skywalker in the title. I'll probably see it to see how they try and salvage something from the meh of the previous two films in this trilogy before Disney kick off some new way to milk their moneys worth from this franchise.
Such a shame we're even talking in this fashion. After the dreadful prequels and the promise (but not brilliance) of Force Awakens here we are again wondering if a Star Wars film is going to be another dog poo rolled in glitter.
Rogue One was great. I really enjoyed that. I'll rewatch that today I think. Proof that they CAN get it right with a good story, great cast and no need to turn everything into a trilogy to max out the cash grab.
I'll drag my mum along. She took me (or rather I dragged her, several times if I recall) to the original in 1978 (UK was ages behind the US back then) so I'll treat her. Unless it's rubbish again, in which case I'll have to make up with a dinner out again as a dutiful son should.
Expensive business, going to the movies.

Rogue One had a lot going for it, but I bet it could have been even better if they didn't mess with it so much. You can get a sense from just how much of the trailers didn't make it into the movie, and from all the obvious reshoots they did that they picked the movie to pieces and tried to sew it all back together. It wasn't as bad a hack job as, say, Suicide Squad, but it does make you wonder what could have been.
To me, the "could have been" with this trilogy is wondering what it would have been like if they had given the whole thing to either director (Abrams or Johnson). As disappointing as I found Last Jedi, I'm really curious to see what a full Johnson trilogy would look like. I 100% blame him for the foolish decision to just blow up everything Abrams set up just for the sake of it, but in his defense, his style was just never going to mesh with what Abrams started. A full Abrams trilogy would probably be more popular and profitable, but part of me suspects a pure Johnson trilogy would have been more interesting.
It's safe to say that I won't see Ep 9 until it comes out on DVD or whatever; however I will technically wind up paying to see it, if only to rent it from the kickass movie store my city still has, which I will support until my dying breath.

I agree with TWF that a full Abrams trilogy that tied back with episodes IV-VI with nostalgic flavor or a full Johnson trilogy that tried to to something new would have been better than this. That said, I liked both VII and VIII, even if it was for different reasons, and I'm invested in the characters so I'm eager to see how it all ends.

The Mandalorian is here and it's quite nice! I'm somewhat surprised by the strange short duration format of the episode, and it starts kinda slow and by the book, but it gets where it needs quite soon and I enjoy the idea.

I'd call it a safe start as opposed to a slow start, but I believe it's a good first episode. Everything about it is charming, and I look forward to the next episodes for sure.
Meanwhile, I'm going to binge on the Xmen and Spiderman 90s animated series. I can already feel the nostalgia from the first episodes.

"Maclunkey!" Seriusly George? It wasn't enough to make Greedo shoot first, now he has to say some untranslated bullcrap?

For real, though, it's pretty great. If you guys know me, you know I'm incredibly nitpicky and reluctant to give high praise for entertainment. So far this show isn't perfect, but it's strengths and flaws are in refreshing places. Above all, it's an excellent case study in the value of visual (and audio) storytelling. The cinematography and sound design are excellent, and take center stage. Consider that this is a show about only one character whose face we never see, and who speaks maybe ten lines of dialogue per episode, and yet we know him so well and are thoroughly entertained. The vast majority of the script is communicated visually through direction, camera work, sound design, and subtle movements by Pedro Pascal and it works so well. The show's weakness so far is that, despite telling its story so well, it doesn't have much of a story to tell. Each episode feels very short because so little actually happens, and we learn so little about the metaplot. It's nominally a western, but somehow feels more like a travel agency brochure for the Star Wars universe. But honestly I don't even mind so much because it's so damn refreshingly strong in other places. One thing about the second episode really disappointed me, though: I felt really deflated when the baby Yoda turned out to be super powerful in the force. It feels like it cheapens Yoda, like he's not special. One of the things that I kinda dig about The Force is that it can seemingly appear in anyone, regardless of race or gender or whatever, and in that way it can be a great equalizer. It makes us feel like any one of us could be a hero. But Star Wars keeps telling us that only Skywalkers are REALLY strong Jedi, and now I guess all of Yoda's species are too. It would have been neat enough just to see another member of Yoda's species, which could have value due to how rare and mysterious they are. I really hope the baby goes away soon and isn't the Mcguffin for the entire season.
EDIT: I realize it's not "really" a baby, in that it's 50 years old. It still seems to be a juvenile. Last word: I suspected this show would be a loss leader for the Disney channel, and there are reports that it costs upwards of $15 million per episode, but I got the impression that it might cost even more. You're telling me they can crank out two seasons of this for the cost of ONE feature film? I'd much rather have the two seasons, thanks! I'd gladly pay full ticket price per season, too, if only it were that easy. Anyway, tl;dr, it's off to a great start.

I agree that the episodes can feel very short, but in the world of 40-50+ minutes fiction they have a runtime of just 30, so that also adds to the mix. The second one is also a bit more packed than the first with even less runtime, but that's pretty usual once the basic introduction is done. But yeah, I agree on the positives, specially in the wordless storytelling part. I've been loving Ludwig Göransson's work (specially in both Creed movies and in Black Panther) for a while, but in The Mandalorian it's nailing it.

Eww, who put dialogue in my The Mandalorian? Pretty steep drop-off in quality in episode 4.
