Alright, so, after watching lots of Atop the Fourth Wall, I've decided, hey why not get into some comics?
Problem is...well, there are ALOT of options out there. And, well...alot of it probably sucks, just because, well, that's the way creativite stuff works. So, I thought, why not ask YOU guys, who probably does read this stuff, what you would reccomend.
I am looking for ongoing series to read, but I am also looking to pick up trades and collections of older issues and stories, so I'll take reccomendations on both.
Oh, and I'm talking supers here, mostly. Yeah, I know there's other stuff, but other than the Sandman, most of that stuff doesn't really draw my eye (although I do love the Sandman).

Invincible is a good series and not too tough to catch up on through TPB.

Atomic Robo!
(Also, if you like Sandman you might like Unwritten. It plays with a lot of the "story about stories" ideas that Sandman did)

The New 52 line in DC is pretty good, though I don't agree with some of the choices in retcons. It's only on Issue 7 or 8 with most books, so it's easy to back track. If you're a fan of Star Trek, there's the Ongoing Star Trek comics which adapt Original Series episodes to fit the 2009 movie's continuity. Knights of the Dinner Table is a funny series IMHO, though I recommend the Bag Wars Saga. If you've never heard of KotDT, I suggest looking it up on Youtube as someone adapted some of the stories into cartoons.

What kind of retcons are we talking about here?
Never been a Star Trek fan. Always seemed good, just not for me. Mostly cause the science focuses on physics and engineering, and...I hate that junk.
Knights of the Dinner Table...seems familiar. Not sure why though.

What kind of retcons are we talking about here? Well let's see, changing Wonder Woman's origin story, Now she's the daughter of Zeus. It's ok, but just seems wrong to me. Superman is no longer married to Lois...though I'll admit it's handled better than Spider-man's marriage retcon. Oh yeah, Supergirl once again being new to Earth. That's pretty much it to my knowledge. It's nothing serious, but for some reason it just doesn't seem right to me. Never been a Star Trek fan. Always seemed good, just not for me. Mostly cause the science focuses on physics and engineering, and...I hate that junk. Oh well, just thought I'd list it...I think it's done pretty well, in fact if you ever saw the episodes in question, you'd never really know what they changed. Knights of the Dinner Table...seems familiar. Not sure why though. Probably sounds like Knights of the Old Republic, or if you seen the Spoony Experiment, Spoony might have mentioned it, since he at one point submitted columns for their comics. Like I said it's pretty funny, as it's a comic about gaming. I pick up a few issues every now and then. Bag Wars was the first TPB collection I picked up, and just couldn't put it down from start to finish.

I think the new52 have pretty much made the DC Universe unreadable. My son read several of the DC line before and now has absolutely no interest whatsoever in any DC merchandise, comic books or whatever. The only interest I hold is for the Batman film franchise, and when that's done, so am I with DC.
Marvel is a bit all over the place at the moment. Fear itself was a failure (as evidenced by a MOUNTAIN of unsold discounted titles at the local comic book shop) and every story seems to be a fill in until the next big crossover event comes along. Unfortunately the big two have gotten into this cycle every year now and will find it hard to break.
Invincible as mentioned is good. Apart from Spiderman, some Avengers titles, Captain America (just started picking that up because of Alan Davis' art), Invincible and one or two other bits, there's nothing I can recommend at the moment.

Well let's see, changing Wonder Woman's origin story, Now she's the daughter of Zeus. It's ok, but just seems wrong to me. I’ve always thought that one of the fundamental problems with Wonder Woman (and Aquaman, Green Arrow, and the Barry Allen Flash too) is that their sidekicks are more interesting than they are. Giving Wonder Girl’s origin to Wonder Woman seems like kind of a half-assed way of fixing that. Plus it does a lot of damage to the Teen Titans franchise (not that DC has cared about that one in a LONG time). Flash is unmarried too. Of course, a single Superman is a lot less annoying to me than a single Barry Allen or Peter Parker since the Clark/Lois/Superman love triangle is a big part of the Superman mythos … even though it makes Lois come off as a terrible reporter. I’m more of a comic guy than an RPG guy but – seeing as the opposite is true for most posters here – I’m a bit surprised RPG comics like Knights of the Dinner Table and Dorktower aren’t mentioned more often here.

Probably because they haven't heard of them. I stumbled onto it while looking something up on TV Tropes. Then I looked it up on you tube, and when I saw the cartoon where the group took on a gazebo, I just couldn't resist reading the comic books.

I was introduced to Dork Tower at a game store (rather than a comic store) so I assumed that comics like it and Knights of the Dinner Table had decent enough exposure among gamers. Dork Tower started out as a webcomic … www.dorktower.com/…so you can read that one for free. It started up as a straight-up RPG comic but – like a lot of long-running webcomics – it became more of a general nerd-culture comic. Actually there are a bunch of RPG-based webcomics you might want to check out. comic.nodwick.com/www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.htmlBoth Nodwick and Order of the Stick derive a lot of their humor from D&D. www.nuklearpower.com/8-bit-theater/Tells an, er, “alternate version” of the first Final Fantasy game. The guy who wrote it has since moved on to other things (like Atomic Robo!) www.lfgcomic.com/Seems to borrow more from MMORPGs like WoW than the pen and paper ones. (Order of the Stick is the only one I listed that I still check on a regular basis but some of the others may interest you guys.)

And Zeus's daughter...they really went the EASIEST route possible, really? Come on, you guys can't be this lazy.. What....oh come on. This is ridiculous. Why bother? We all know they're going to end up together(they aren't brave or dumb enough to change that), so..why do it? And we go back to the beginning again. DC...stop. Rebooting. Things. Your sales aren't down because your continuity is confusing. They're down cause your writing is very uneven. Just sayin.

And that reflects my point that I don't like it...why?
Sales aren't particularly relevant to me. I was just pointing out, it's not continuity that's keeping readers away. At least, I don't think so.
I get tired of reboots, and massive alterations to stories. Just tell the stories, and move on please, is that so much to ask?

I wouldn't suggest that you change your point of view based on sales. I was just mentioning it.
