Not too much to report just yet. I had a busy couple of days so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked to, but I'll keep you posted! I'd like to begin recruiting and building characters by the end of this coming week at the latest.

Due to some unforeseen busy-ness, I am woefully behind on starting this up. Consider it on hold for now, but it is still something that I want to run as soon as I find the time. I'll keep you posted!

I just got the book a couple of minutes ago. Which just means that I will have some understanding on what to do when this starts. Also, I still want to do this and can't wait for it to start. I am gonna go with a street level vigilante called the Detective. I actually played as him before, but the game session, which was held by WK, ended before I could have fun.

I read the main parts of the book but I am still a bit confused on how the dice work. What the difference between the "total" and the "effect" dice? If you can tell me what page to reread as well.

Good question.
Totals: When you form a dice pool and roll it, the first thing you want to do is pick two of the dice to be your "total". Pick any two dice and add their results together, and that becomes your Total. The Watcher does the same thing, and then you compare your Totals to see who has the highest. Whoever gets the highest total wins the conflict.
Effect Dice: You also get to pick another die to be your Effect Die. Whoever wins the conflict gets to use their Effect Die to do something. For example, if you were trying to help an ally, your Effect Die becomes an Asset (a bonus to that ally's next roll). Or, if you were trying to punch a villain, your Effect becomes Stress (essentially pain and injury).
Some extra notes: * You can't use a die result in both your Total, and as an Effect die at the same time.
* Any natural 1s that you roll are called "Opportunities", and cannot be used for either your Total or your Effect Die. Typically you avoid rolling any 1s, but that's easier said than done.
* If you only have 1 or 2 dice, then that becomes your Total; if you don't have a die left over after picking your Total, your Effect Die is considered to be a d4. This happens sometimes if you have a small pool and/or you happen to roll a ton of Opportunities. It's even possible to roll nothing but 1s and fail utterly and completely! How humiliating..
* As long as it isn't an Opportunity, the result on your effect die doesn't matter: it's the size that counts (heh, heh). Even if you roll a 3, the Asset you give to your ally gives them a free d10 to add to their next roll.
*EXAMPLE* So, I'm playing Wolverine and I want to stab Sabretooth with my claws. I put together my dice pool, which for argument's sake winds up being 2d8+3d10. I roll dem bones and get:
[dice=8] [dice=8] [dice=8] [dice=10] [dice=10]
So, first things first, that 1 is an Opportunity and I set it aside. I can't use it at all. However, I got some pretty good other stuff in there.
The best total I can make is 17, by adding the two d10s together. However, this leaves me with a d8 Effect Die.
If instead I choose the 9 and one of those 6s, I can make a Total of 15 and an Effect Die of d10. I'm less likely to successfully hit, but if I do, I'll deal more Stress to Sabretooth. Sometimes you wind up with these hard choices, and at least to me, that's part of what makes the game a lot of fun.
I think that's about it! Those are the basics, anyway. I hope that helps; please ask any follow up questions if you have 'em! As for reading, try OM06 to OM09 for a brief overview of rolling dice, and OM22 to OM29 for some stuff about what you can do with your Effect Die.
