I'm sorry, but that strikes me as one of the biggest loads of bullshit in the history of giant loads of bullshit. "Because the audience is boys, what's okay for male characters isn't okay for female characters." Ridiculous. That isn't at all what I was saying. ~TWF

I’ve seen some great comments about that Catwoman image and its impossible anatomy. DCnU has a really lousy track record where female characters are concerned. DCnU Starfire has been stripped of every aspect of the old Starfire EXCEPT the fanservice. Are you saying that because you don’t think he’s objectified like the women are or are you saying that because you think his treatment isn’t all that unique among the males? Show me a Nightwing artist who doesn’t constantly draw Dick Grayson shirtless with lots of butt shots and I’ll show you an artist that didn’t keep his job for very long. As for the other … well I’ll concede that horny fangirls are the driving force behind the popularity of characters like Gambit but the fanservice isn’t as ubiquitous as it is with Nightwing. (And that Wolverine page you posted is disturbing for the same reason that fanservice with some female characters is disturbing; some characters just shouldn’t be sexualized.)

This is just my experience, but the horny fangirls I know are more interested in watching the object of their affection go through a plot arc, especially if it makes them vulnerable or emotionally tortured, than they are in seeing a butt shot. I'm sure they'd take a combination of the both, but judging by the self-indulgent fanfics that my fangirl friends write, character and development really are more important to them.
EDIT: And yeah, in general, Wolverine has had to endure a pretty icky Draco in Leather Pants treatment of late.

I only have one real life fangirl friend. She’s mentioned writing fanfic but I haven’t seen any of it. She’s really into fandoms (Harry Potter, manga, ect) that are notorious for guy on guy fanfic so I’m a little afraid to look. ;-)
Most of the women (guys claiming to be women?) I’ve met on comic boards are either really into pretty boys like Gambit or really outraged by the treatment of female characters. Or both.
PS: I’d blame Hugh Jackman for the increase in Wolverine fanservice but I know it existed before.

Idk as far as fan service goes i would say eventually it boles down to sexism /racism and being politically correct. Sure some girls/boys don't look how they always do but when there not popular and no 1 knows them u can do what ever u want because no 1 cares, but if they become more well know (e.g Jubilee) you might start getting flack from w/e or be told to give her bigger boos because your getting hate male for making a Asian girl with a flat chest and it offensive to some people. Not saying it the case with ALL the people in comic books, but differently works for some. just my 2 cents XD

They DID give Jubilee massive mammaries when they used her in New Warriors. Her silicon balloons went over like lead balloons with fandom.

I do agree with you, WK; the characters are meant to be healthy, athletic, young people, so they're naturally going to be slim and muscular. But when you have costumes like this running around, you kind of skirt past the "athletic young people" issue. It's entirely a matter of personal taste but I think I'm bothered more by Ms. Marvel's costume as it evolved over the years than I am about Spider Woman's. Spider Woman's compares favorably with Spider Man, Daredevil and the like when looking at heroes overall across the decades. (I'm just speaking to the costume, her bust size is a separate issue). On the other hand, Ms. Marvel's costume just slid across the line into ridiculous as it got skimpier. Don't get me wrong, I love the character but am bothered by the obvious fanservice. In answer to the OP, I think, oddly enough, that the new Captain Marvel's costume is pretty good, all things considered with the way comics have been traditionally drawn.

Danvers has never really had a good look. For most of her career she’s dressed in a one-piece swimsuit for no apparent reason. Her current outfit is okay (though a little derivative of a character Marvel bought and did nothing with) but her new haircut – while certainly more practical than her old one – is a little too … butch.
(Also not thrilled she’s taking a codename that rightfully belongs to Marv’s kids but that’s a whole other issue)

Did anyone mention Big Barda? She's a big boned woman, attractive but covered in armour and would kick your teeth in if you didn't show her respect. Unless she of course has been made to turn up in swimsuits too.
In fact, I think John Byrne might have had her wearing a grass skirt and little else, so I'll shut up.

Yeah, it depends who is drawing her, and how much "armor" they feel like putting on her.

Yeah, I've found a lot of pretty sexy Big Barda comic images on a Google search. I'm a fan.
