I'm a fan of tactical RPGs. The old Shining Force games on the Sega systems, FFT, Ogre Battle, etc. Well in the Marvel Universe we sometimes see alien races go to war and battle it out on the ground with opposing armies. Now ofcourse the 'grunts' are important but it's usually the 'supers' that make the difference.
A random idea popped into my head the other night, I thought it might be nice to have some 'house rules' to handle conflicts involving armies and 'supers'. Now yes, a GM could simply have the battle turn out the way he plans it to, but I'm working more toward the times when GM's/Players want a bit more of an open-ended enviroment.
Now for this example, assume Ceterus Paribus (sp?) which is Latin for roughly "all other things being equal".
Two opposing groups of humans, lightly armed face each other. I would think them the most basic of forces, so I'd assume them an Att and Def of 1. Each panel of combat would have a winner and a loser, decided when all things are equal by a coin toss, odds/evens, etc. But in most situations one side will have an advantage over the other, or one side will be at a disadvantage (sit mods folks ) which will dictate the winner.
In this 1vs1 #'s, 1 troop would fall per panel, but if one side had a larger advangate or stats, then ofcourse more troops would fall per panel. Also a sit mod could be factored for the lose of troops. Obviously and outnumbered unit is at a disadvantage. Terrian, race traits, weapons/equipment, etc for sit mods applicable to battle.
============'Super's Role'=========
Now, imagine how if seemingly minor things like terrian and equipment can turn the tide of battle, think of how much impact having just one 'super' on your side would have, if the opposition had none.
Are human defenders being overrun by a Skrull invasion? Bet Iron Man could help turn things around
I'm still working on how numbers will be used in this aspect, but I'm thinking about using troop #'s as HP/Health, and depending on the powers being used, having the number of troops that fall be = to damage done like in normal combat.
Obviously there are details to be worked out, but I first wanted to see if anyone else would even be interested. If so I'll work more on it, if not then it'll get put on a back burner.
