Okay, so FATE requires 2d6-7, then mods separate. Or you can modify the -7 in the formula. For Example, say I’m picking a lock and need “Fair” result. My skill is +2 and I'm using an extra (thieves tools +1). -7+3 is -4 so my roll is 2d6-4, or:
HzMNjinO2d6-4 vs. a 2
WOW...that sucked...
Or maybe target number is always 7, with 8 being Average, 9 being fair, 10 being good, 11 Great. So, 2d6+3 vs 7.
So results are: -3 or more=catastrophic, -2 mediocre, -1 poor, 0 mediocre, 1 average, 2 fair, 3 good, 4 great, 5 superb, 6 fantastic, 7 or more=legendary
Test with smaller mods. Base stat is maxed (+2), +2 for applicable Fact and Trait, +1 for Inspiration. 2d6+5 2d6+5 2d6+5 2d6+52d6-42d6+32d6+52d6+52d6+52d6+5

Test: Character with STR +2 and Warrior (sword, armor, endurance) attacks a gaggle of Goblins (total of 6 minions). Being outnumbered, the TN is now 9. Warrior will use an. inspiration to gain another +2 for Inspiration point.
So cFtDbcT42d6+6 vs 9
Testing using a d12. 1d12+6 vs 9. 1d12+6 vs 9. 1d12+6 vs 9. 1d12+6 vs 9. 1d12+6 vs 9.2d6+61d12+61d12+61d12+61d12+61d12+6

Pool of d6’s. 1d for every +, Fact, Trait, Insp. Assume medium stat is 2d. Need a 4 or better for a success. A 6 counts as 2 Shooting roll versus TN 3. Agility +1, Detective, Trusty Pistol, using 1 Insp. gaK3_CX64d6
OR rather: d6 d6 d6 d6
Higher rating 4d, plus additional 4d, max pool d6 d6 d6 d6 d6 d6 d6 d6 4d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6d6
