The Listener smiled, standing up from her communion with the Night Mother and rejoined her wife and Cicero.
-The Night Mother smiles upon our new goals. We are setting out for Riften, and are free to settle this matter the way we see fit. If all goes well, those assassins will be working with us, Maven Black-Briar will fall and be replaced by Ingun. This is the dawn of a new era for the Dark Brotherhood, I can feel it. Come... let us bring this dream to life together.

Some time later, you arrive at the gates of Riften.

-An uneventful journey. I can't say I'm disappointed. A welcome change from the usual, Anaya pointed out with a smile.
Entering Riften, she headed towards the Black-Briar estate, keeping an eye out for the rival assassins or general trouble, just in case. It was, after all, Riften. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 stones into Thieving PLUS 3 from Animal Senses to keep an eye out for trouble just in case.

You make it to the estate no problem. You also hear a rumor by one of the guards.
"They say Niral Silver-Blood has started an exotic beast trade... Friendly Fiends, he calls it. Strange name."
(Misc quest added: Visit the Friendly Fiends in Markarth.)

-Hm. An exotic beast trade, huh, Anaya said, thinking out loud. I wonder if it has anything to do with... bah, nevermind. Those are questions for later.
Arriving at the estate, she looked at her two companions:
-Now, unless she starts it, we're not here to fight... yet. Treat this as a courtesy/business visit... first we talk, then we'll see.
She knocked at the door... keeping her guard up just in case, and fully expecting her dear wife and Cicero to do the same. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9 stones (Ef.) into Close Combat (Hand-to-hand) all into defense just in case.

You look around the manor seeing quite a few more guardz than usual, clearly Maven was expecting something like this.
"Hello Thane. I assume you are bothering me for a reason?" She says with the same arrogance and distain back when you first arrived in Riften a complete nobody.

Anaya simply acted as Maven did; seemingly normally and as she had throughout their different meetings in the past.
-Greetings, lady Maven... Hm, that is unfortunate. I expected you would have gotten word of that reason beforehand. Did my letter not reach you? ...I actually hoped we could discuss business in Riften and its surroundings...
Whenever the Dragonborn used the words 'business' and 'Riften and its surroundings', her fellow Underworld-familiar contacts (Maven included) knew she was actually referring to the workings of the Thief guild and the Dark Brotherhood, two elements that Maven Black-Briar was known for preferring to be discussed away from the public's eye. It was basically a way to offer Maven to discuss things in a place more private of her own choosing, so they could speak frankly, away from possible eavesdroppers.

"Ugh, very well let us proceed to my basement. We can discuss this in private." She says leading you down to the elaborate basement (Never been inside Black Briar Manor, so I don't know how true that is.)

(OOC: Being leader of the Thief guild and the Listener/leader of the D.B, I like to believe it'd make sense to assume the two of them could be on a first name basis in private, if you don't mind. Of course, that doesn't mean Maven has to be any less condescending, lol.)
Anaya Rosethorne
Upon getting away from aforementioned possible eavesdroppers, Anaya went straight to the point, knowing well how Maven didn't care for small talk.
-Maven, my business with you today is as Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. We have encountered... difficulties with a new organization of assassins in Skyrim. I lost a few of my men to them, in fact. I take it you are aware of this fact?
This wasn't meant as an accusation or anything of course; Maven did have a really large information network.

"Yes Anaya. I'm aware of such things. Such is typically the way it ends for people in that line of work. Especially the less capable."

-Oh, I agree wholeheartedly with you on that, Maven, the Listener pointed out perhaps a bit unexpectedly. This time, however, she didn't hesitate to go the real heart of the matter. What I disagree with is the fact that assassins from another faction, hired by you as well, would target my men. What game are you playing, Maven? You've never been one to diminish your own assets, and the Dark Brotherhood is allied to you. I understand why you'd hire other assassins to do the few jobs I do turn down -which is not that many considering all we've done for you- but sending them after us?
She paused, frowning.
-Hiring other assassins is one thing. That's just business, and I don't mind it. Sending them after us is another. What happened to those years of partnership we've had going on? And if not for them, have you even considered the long terms results of such an action? I lead the Dark Brotherhood. I lead the Thief Guild. You may be a big client for both of them, but we are independent. If you make enemies out of us, you lose your main strength in all holds. You may have money and businesses, but your muscle, underhanded jobs and information network, for the most part, go through me, and we both know it. So all I wish to know is... what the hell's going on? Why are you doing this? Why make enemies of us while you could have two different assassin guilds working together, while not losing friends in the Thieves' guild? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6 stones into Social Skills to get Maven to spill the beans about her actions;
11 stones (Ef.) into Close Combat (Hand-to-hand) plus 2 from Dragonforce, all into defense, in case things go south for some reason.

"I did not send them after you." Maven corrected. "I sent them after targets you happened to be after as well, and they just got in the way." She says. "Don't get all agitated just because I found some new more effective people to do my dirty work for me. Or have you forgetten it's because of my family that you even have work to begin with?"

"Lots of people hire assassins", Anaya replied. "You more than most, that would be true. As long as there will be powerful individuals in this world, there will be work for the likes of us. But that's beyond the point. I'm not agitated because you hired people you think to be more effective than me. I'm agitated because my men die because of your new friends. All I'm asking for is a bit of consideration on the matter."
She knew this conversation was going nowhere anyway; if Maven was set on using those new assassins and not making sure the two groups weren't going to clash, nothing the Listener could have said would have changed the stubborn matriach's mind. She knew that even before talking to her, but she had still wanted to try, for some reason.
"Would you mind telling me what those new assassins have that make them so exceptional?", she asked on a conversational tone. She didn't really care if Maven answered or not, but that didn't stop her from trying. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I renew my stones of Defense just in case. XD

"Tell me Anaya... Have you ever met a man, who could slay a fully armored foe without a weapon in hand? How about a giant, or a Mammoth, or even a Dragon? Tell me... What chance do you think you and your little friends have against them? By the way. If you have any ideas about eliminating me. bear in mind, that these individuals will be quite angry you have slain one of their contacts, and more than likely will want revenge. So think carefully before you make your next move."

"Maven, your words hurt my feelings. We are friends. Unlike some others in our line of work... I do not betray my friends", the Listener said, before heading out and concluding, "Farewell. Have yourself a pleasant day."
Obviously, she kept an eye out for trouble as she headed out of the manor (one never knows with the Black-Briars). At the same time, she thought to herself: "I never said anything about betraying my enemies, however." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Still renewing stones of Defense, but also...
7 stones into Thieving (Stealth, Assassination) plus 3 from Animal Senses, possibly helped with Enhanced Vision 5 (Sense Dragons, See in Darkness), to specifically keep an eye out to possible attackers, attacks in the back, or even from Maven herself attacking me out of spite. Will maintain until I'm out of the manor with my wife and Cicero.
