Aaaaand done. We are now the proud owners of a healthy, bouncing Write Ups folder under the Resources category. I hope that clears up some clutter and makes life easier for you, Janus! ~TWF

I see that you had your share of fun with the fake game. I laughed quite a bit, too

Ok cool. So can we decide upon some guidelines about the Archive?
How long can boards stay in there? I think I mentioned earlier that boards are only supposed to stay hidden for two years before deletion. Should we apply the same rule?

I think it's okay to leave them in there indefinitely, unless the GM is okay with total deletion. I don't see a reason to push too hard for deletion.

Ok, win.
I'll post in threads to give people the option of deletion or archive. This will also give them the option of starting to use the thread again.
One question for you all.
I tend to just use a standard 'one size fits all' message for asking if a thread needs deleting. This is basically to keep the length of time it takes me to do maintenance to a minimum. The latest one is as follows. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone would like to give.
"Hi there
I noticed this game hasn't been posted in a while so I was wondering if it is still needed. The board owners have asked us to keep the 'Online Roleplay' section for live games only and asked that any game that has not had posts in over a month be removed.
As such it would be helpful if you could let me know what you would like done with this game. If you want to keep using it it would be really helpful if you could post in it at least once a month. If you want to delete it please let me know. If you want to save it we can move the board to the Archive in the Resources section.
Which ever you prefer please let me know as soon as possible.
Many thanks."

Looks good to me.
PS: My Starjammers game never resurged as hoped... Feel free to axe it.

Hmm, one problem with the Archive that I just noticed: Each board has a list of sub-boards that is displayed in small text. If we cram a hundred games in there as sub-boards, that's going to be a huge blob of links to all the games. Could get ugly.
One solution is to create ONE sub-board for the Archive, and shove all the games in that. That would at least prevent clutter on the front page. Sort of an inelegant solution, but it would work.

Another solution might be to archive things by year.
Lock everything and then store it in the year of the last post
I certainly think we should only archive things if we are specifically asked to do so. As much space as we might have the archive could get very full very fast if we aren't careful.

Might as well delete it outright.

As much space as we might have the archive could get very full very fast if we aren't careful. Maybe we could archive things by the year in which they were archived? I've started doing things that way, as it's easiest to keep track of. I created a "2014" folder, and we can start up a 2015 next year. My only concern about deleting games by default is losing material that could be used again in future. I know it's super unlikely that a game will be restarted after a long break, (I'm still confident that I can get the last few issues out of New X-Men if Hypester comes back..) but I'm sentimental and hate losing things forever unless everyone is cool with it. On the other hand, I hate clutter, so I'm torn. lol I figure we can shove a lot of games in the Archive, and periodically ask people to go through it and look for games of theirs that they're now okay with deleting? ~TWF

I'd love to keep stuff, I really wish I'd kept my old Gotham by night board, but if we aren't careful with it we could sign in one day to find the archive gone with a note saying 'too much old junk here so I deleted it - the board owners'. If we are careful and can show that we are keeping on top of everything they are more likely to go ok you've got it under control but we need you to do some weeding. Oh one other point, could you create a 2013 folder for all the stuff that is currently hidden? I think we need to get everything out in the open and use the hidden setting for something other than storage.

I'm not as worried about the owners getting involved, but then I don't know much about how things work at that level. Is there some cost associated with keeping lots of stuff around on the boards or something? They so rarely interfere here, and if they were to, I imagine they would at least try to contact us first.
I'm more concerned about cluttering up the front page, and the admin view. Having 50 trillion games stacked on top of each other makes it hard to find the one you're trying to moderate at any given time, and that kind of confusion can lead to lost or deleted stuff.
I can definitely create a 2013 folder. I'll start shoving anything that's still hidden in there, and maybe we can make an announcement asking people to see what they can bear to let go.
