Also, if you guys think the wait is bad, try having to choose between so many great characters! I'm going to have a really exciting and difficult choice on my hands.

You know DK, I'd be more than happy to help with that. Ignore my bias

I guess I shouldn't send a third CAD then.

You know DK, I'd be more than happy to help with that. Ignore my bias I'm now imagining a game now where all the characters are played by dhark, like some kind of Eddie Murphy movie.

I guess I shouldn't send a third CAD then. If I weren't engrossed in reading nWoD's Demon: The Descent book right now... Poor DK would have like eight other CAD's by then. As it is... He may still get one more from me, as the longer I wait the more I dream up new latest and greatest.

So it's Tuesday now my time, and I'm declaring submissions CLOSED. If you haven't sent me a concept or CAD, I'm sorry it's too late. People with sheets still in the works, keep working on them, I'll still be considering you equally with the others.

Still figuring out selections, sorry, got hit with a whole truckload of IRL depression today, so I'm working through that as well, but I am dedicating thought to this as well. I'll hopefully make my selections soon! (ASAP, I assure you.)

That was...way harder a decision than I expected. I almost accepted everybody (all nine applicants) and do two squads, one of four and one of five. I didn't and I'm going to explain why. First of all, I was really planning on one large central story, and doing two squads would prove more challenging than rewarding for me and less rewarding for the players involved since I can give you guys more individual attention. I'd rather mostly satisfy six people than half-satisfy nine (there's probably an orgy joke in there that I'm not making, I just want you to know I see it too .) The other big reason was nine players, even in two squads, seemed like far too much work ("What are we going to do with nine X-Men?!") So, I had to get serious about it: I looked at three criteria primarily. 1) Powers. Variety this wasn't a big trouble, I didn't get two Pyrokinetics or anything like that (especially since I steered people away from that as subtly as I could when it came up). I tried to pick the people who had both the coolest conceptually tied-together powers. 2) Characters. I looked for characters who would either go well or clash spectacularly together. I also tried to keep a decent gender ratio (I got 4 female characters, and 5 male characters, the balance of which was actually the inspiration for the failed 'two squads' proposal.) I actually got silly about this and assigned you combat roles like in the Team Builder sections to try and do it that way too. 3) Players. I'm going to admit at this point in the difficulty of this decision I'm reverting largely to player bias. Better the devil you know than the one you don't, am I right? I know this is blatant croneyism, but I'm not a public official so it's at best kind of lame on my part. I favored people I knew posted or could post at least once a week generally over people who didn't. And, like we joked earlier, I went from wanting 4-6 players to accepting 7... In alphabetical player name order we have: Jeremy Morgan 'Hurricane' ( Andrew) Arkady Sagut 'Dauntless?' (although I'll probably just using Project: Nightmare so frequently in the same breath it'll become associated the way Weapon X and Wolverine are) ( Dhark) Lacey Sofen 'Singularity' ( Dionon) Tom Arden 'Codename TBD' (I just pitched Chimera) ( Goats) Catherine Rothschilde 'Copycat' ( Gris) Chad Wilson 'Jaws' ( kira) Name TBD (Codename also TBD but I assure you the concept and CAD we're working with're pretty cool) ( OurLadyWar) shawn, Silentking Alpha, I really tried my best to figure out a way to include both of you guys too, but I couldn't get a line-up together of eight that didn't not include one of you, and I was almost upset looking at the potential people I had to exclude from most teams of six (I cycled through a few rosters,) which helped sort of cement my decision. Also, when I considered eight, I realized I was equally unexcited about both potential rosters, so that sort of sealed it for me. Nothing personal for either of you, all three concepts (SK submitted two for me to pick from) were all awesome, they were just not as awesome as the others. I feel extra bad since this is the first game shawn submitted to, and he seemed super excited about it. Please keep trying! I've never brought this up, but I was actually rejected from the first game I applied to when I joined the boards year ago (it was Dolemite's Mutant 2048 game. ASIDE: Anyone else remember Dolemite? He was German or something, right? He was on the way out as I was coming in so we didn't really interact a lot.) Submit the best stuff you can and I'm sure you'll find a game here, either one I'm running or with another GM. I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff from you and playing a game together sooner rather than later. SK, you've been here a while and know them's the breaks sometimes. Nothing personal, either way! Anyway, I'll be putting the board up now. Thanks again for your patience! And this looks like it's going to be a blast to run!

Haha. Was Dolemite at least... "nice" about the rejection? I remember one of my first rejections on here was from him. He totally declared I was clearly a novice at CAD building, because I wasn't exploiting EVERY stone possible. <eye-roll> I was here before him though, so I chalked it up to eliteism and moved on my way.

I don't want to say anything bad about him, he did eventually accept a character I came up with near the end of the game after I had built more of a presence on here, and he didn't say anything mean or hurtful or anything about my submission, just passed on the first character I sent him. It's one of the experiences I try to remember where people join the site and try to get a spot in NeXt (which happens way more frequently than I'd personally expect). Or at least I try to be nice when I say no... EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that Mutant 2048 was a HUGE inspiration on Heirs to the Atom and all my takes on the mutant school that came after. Although I might have made some improvements as I went... (You should watch this entire clip, and this entire movie, it's one of my top 10 movies of all time. But skip to 7:30 for the part I'm referencing.)
