I already said I wasn't naming names. But if you really must know...

Yeah... The whole point of resource management is you have a finite amount of resources but some people on this board (not naming any names) can not or simply refuse to understand that. I'm guilty of it at times. The problem is that it's SUCH a fine line between not having enough, and having too much, and it varies so much from build-to-build. Each build should be able to accomplish what it's meant to accomplish, but at the same time running out of energy should be a real concern for everyone in particularly tough or protracted battles. Honestly, I think the MURPG system is a complete wash. I know a lot of you guys think it's "salvageable" in some fashion but I've tried and tried, and finally just given up. I simply don't think there's any foundation of a solid mechanic anywhere within the game. I use the system because it's what people here on the boards play, and I love playing with you guys, and that's about it.

I would still like to try it live with a group of you guys one day, but yeah it's basically dead for a reason. It was a cool idea (I do really like the resource management concept), but there wasn't any foresight put into creating a balanced rule system.
The real trouble is that, once you have one player in the group that takes advantages of free stones, every player has to. I ran into it with my Beast Wars game and it really soured me to the system in general.
Lord_Amadeus_Rahl, I think your best bet, rather than trying to figure out how things work out, is to just let the players make whatever they want, put stones into things, then adjudicate however you see fit. Don't bother making CADs unless they help you flesh out a concept and just wing it.

Well, yes, but I also imagine that the rules aren't the problem at that point

Well, yes, but I also imagine that the rules aren't the problem at that point Some groups prefer an adversarial relationship between the GM and players, in which case obviously the GM has to abide by the RAW, or at least only the accepted house rules
