My wife and I are talking about getting rid of our cable. Assuming we still have fast internet, is there any point in buying something like the Amazon Fire Stick or Roku? Or can we get most of the same content through the Xbox/Xbox one? Obviously I can just get Netflix on my One, so is Amazon providing anything inherent to the Amazon fire stick itself, or is it all just about what apps you subscribe to? I realize that there are some functionality issues (Roku lets you search for something across all of your available services, for instance), but in terms of the actual content delivered, given we'd have to pay for these various subscription services, is there any real difference?

From our research, as when we transfer this coming May we plan to drop cable indeffinitely, they're all comparable. We stream netflix most of the time now anyways (testing it out while we still have cable), and... well, I have the internet for shows that I CANNOT wait for.

I haven't had cable in.. 6 years? I don't miss it at all. I have Netflix and it's pretty great, and I torrent anything I can't get on it.
The only thing you'll miss is sports, if that's your thing at all. You can stream games either for free on some sites or by subscribing to a separate service, though; still cheaper than cable, I think.
