I think it's fairly obvious that I've been dragging a bit the last month or two. Before I go any further, I want to apologize sincerely for that. It's nothing about how well you guys write or play (which is very, generally,) more on depression, real-life stresses, and my own scattershot attention span (which gets frayed further by the other two). It's not fair to any of you who've been playing in any of my games, and I apologize for any frustrations I might have generated because of it. In order to better focus my efforts, I've decided to put some of games on hiatus to focus on the others (and still give myself room to do other stuff). This was not an easy decision, in fact the opposite, and I hope nobody takes personal umbrage or thinks this has anything to do with them or their skill or their characters or anything about them (it really isn't).
Good news first:
Games I'm Keeping
The Guardians
Comments: Let's go Guardians! I've been having fun coming up with characters to flesh out our own weird little corner of the Marvel universe. Also, always sort of looking for new players for this, I like the idea that they have something of a revolving door cast.
X-Men NeXt
Comments: NeXt is a passion project for me. The kind of game I'll make work if I have to. I'm still very excited about the darker direction I'm going with the current storyline and some of the unexpected story freedoms I've gotten out of it.
Age of Mutants
Comments: Age of Mutants is a melting pot of a lot of my weirder passions, and I have some other storylines I hope to explore in the future with it.
Last War in Heaven
Comments: Still have a lot of faith in this concept (pun only partially intended).
Exiles: Singularity
Comments: This concept has a lot of potential, I'm sorry for how the delays have affected it's first steps, but I think it's going to go places (if I ever can make myself freakin' update it! First post planned for tonight after I get this up.)
Bad news:
Games on Hiatus
Dr. Who: Beyond Space and Time
Why I'm getting rid of this: This game was beset by so many bizarre twists of fate forcing me in new and unexpected directions it might as well have been an actual season of the show itself.
What's the chance of me reviving it: It's not like I'm obsessed with this show or anything. I'm going to treat this like how the show in 1987 was put on 'permanent hiatus' for a while. I may revisit this some day, not ruling it out. I'm also thinking of trying to run the system on Roll20, if I could assemble a group for it.
Gallifrey: Lost Generation
Why I'm getting rid of this: Great concept, great characters, I just really struggled bringing it all together.
What's the chance of me reviving it: I am seriously considering reviving this game as an 'Time Lord Academy-style' sort of game, which might lead to some drastic tweaks. Think Harry Potter with Time Lords. Might not even use the existing Doctor Who RPG rules, but that means homebrewing it. What that means though specifically, I don't know yet. So for sure, not for a while. If/when it happens, I'll PM those players first and they'll get guaranteed spots if they're interested.
New Mutants
Why I'm getting rid of this: Tough decision. Very tough. Had to make a hard call, and this is one of those games that jumped back and forwards from the "keep" and "don't keep" columns a few times. Inevitably, I feel like I'm not going to give this the attention it deserves next to NeXt.
What's the chance of me reviving it: Unlikely, honestly, but stranger things have happened.
Magemechs of Gloriantha
Why I'm getting rid of this: Another game I had to sort of force myself to drop. It's a cool idea, and I have great characters for it, but I'm just struggling with it a lot more than I'd expected.
What's the chance of me reviving it: I've been thinking rework this into a proper full campaign setting. If I do, I might run this again as a playtest. But discontinued for now for sure.
I'll be moving these to the Archives ASAP.
As a pittance of a consolation, players in my remaining games who lost characters can take 2 LOE/lost game that can apply to any and all of your characters in the surviving games. This stacks, because it sucks even more if I'm removing that many games from you. Players who aren't in any of my other games (only a few since I do tend to draw from a similar pool,) I'm very sorry, I really wish it didn't have to come to this, and I have nothing to offer you as consolation except the fact I like your work and would very likely choose you if and when I do start another game up. And inevitably I'm going to make up another game in the future. There's no doubt of that in my mind. For right now, though, these will be my primary foci.
If anyone has questions about the hiatus games (story stuff, stats, whatever) I'd be happy to answer them here or in PM's. Just to be clear: not leaving the site, still going to run the above games and play in the ones I'm currently playing in (except for one, but I'm PMing the GM about that presently).
Again, apologies,
~DK (Derek)
