Setting: Fission City is a bustling metropolis originally born out of an old west(FISHIN' CITY!) trading post located in the southern united states. Today, its comparable to such cities as Boston, New York, and New Orleans, a living city with a lot of old world charm. Then, The Aurora Event happened. Appearing high over the night skies of Fission City, a light phenomena that looks similar to the arctic Aurora Borealis blooms over Fission City. It stays up there throughout the night, and chaos begins to reign come the dawn. Thats when the emergences happened, thats when the barrier went down. As near as anyone can tell, roughly 25% of the cities population gained extranormal abilities, Most would view this as something groundbreaking, an event that changes the course of human history. But standing between the City and the rest of the world, is the Barrier.
An unseen, invisible dome that encompasses the city itself and about 5 miles of urban hood and country roads in every direction. Not anyone, or ANYTHING has been able to get past it. Its been roughly three months, and the city is going to start to capsize soon. Its martial law on the inside, with the powered peoples of the city all fight and vie for power. Enter, you...
PremiseL Hey gang, I find myself in a good enough routine to attempt to run something again, so I hope this all catches your interest. A little bit of Under the Dome meets Heroes, I think this could be a pretty good game to sink your teeth into. The basic idea is average city citizens have gained superhuman abilities, the PCs counting amongst their number. The first part of the game is going to be the first 48 hours, in which the PCS will have a lot of liquid agency to shape the fate of the city into the game world it will open it into when you all come together three months after. Still with me? lets talk char gen
Crunch: Stone count is 40+5 BUT heres the catch, all stones invested by the players can only be invested into normal abilities i.e. no superpowers. This stone count is meant to represent your "pool", and you are by no means required to spend all of it, and I encourage you not too. The second half of this game is all about RANDOM POWER SETS. I've always been a huge fan of this game type, and I think it allows for a lot of originality in character to come across when you focus on the PC your trying to make and not how to best dress up your powers in a human suit. Some people may not want to give a GM that much play, and thats fine
Invest as much or as little as you want into your normal "human" side, whatever is left over is your "Emergence Pool" Thats where myself will build a power set with what remains. SO you want to be a Punisher esque ex marine with the power of a million guns and burn through a lot of stones? thats fine, with whatevers leftover though is mine to work with, make sense?
I very much enjoy backstories and am more than willing to talk shop and work through concepts
