Also, if anyone's having trouble picking a character, I would definitely swoon for a version of Katar Hol with more direct ties to Ancient Egypt.

Well so far here are my ideas:
Nu'bia, the unwanted Amazon child of Hippolyte as she was the product of her enemy, Ares's forceful advances, Nu'Bia lives deep within a secret holding cell, locked beneath the palace of the amazons. Nu'bia was kept there like an animal until the goddess, Athena showed pity upon her. Hippolyte had received a divine intervention with the goddess as she explained that it was not her fault not the child's of what had befallen her. That she should not be punished for the sins of the father but instead taught and nurtured like she did her own child, Diana. Hippolyte released Nu'bia from her imprisonment, though as one could expect, the reunion was not a pleasant one. It took some time but Nu'bia and her mother had finally forgiven each other. Nu'bia had trained with the amazons only to become of the fiercest combatants around, though she felt restricted and caged like before as she was not allowed to leave the island. Much like any teenager, she found a way off the island and ventured into the world of man to prove that she was ready for the world of man and that she should be allowed the same freedoms as her older sister.
Noxvia, The Lost Sapphire., Noxvia was once a recruit for the star sapphires who had the greatest potential for love within her heart. Compassionate and full of love for all those around her, she was called upon by the head of the Star Sapphire corps to engage in a crucible to become one of their elite sapphires. She left her family and sisters in arms behind to take on the challenge only to be thwarted by a green lantern, or so she was meant to believe. She was defeated and left with grevious wounds. Weak and with no other option she fell to earth's oceans where she went into a crystal hibernation to recover. It was not until recently, fishers had found her off the coast of metropolis, that she awoke with no recollection of who she was or what she was doing on earth.
La Sangre: From the streets of Barcelona, a young woman named Maria De Luca has come from her coven in an attempt to track down and stop the Cult of Blood from their sacrificial rites. Maria was just a college student when she was attacked by a vampire in Barcelona. Instead of becoming a soulless blood sucker, she was able to overcome the urges and rise above to become a crime fighter. Her most recent targets is the cult of blood who have been performing demonic rites in order to enact some sort of effect, but all attempts thus far has failed. Maria followed the blood to America, where she stalks in the night trying to find the source of this cult and take them out once and for all.

I started with two characters but have not heard anything back on if they would be acceptable or not. Once I have heard one way or the other on them I can continue.

While I realize that I'm late to the table on this one, if anything ever does come about for it, I have an idea for Big Atomic Lantern Boy. He could fit into the scenario after his team disappears for a month when they use the Boomtube during Final Crisis.
He's a pretty blank slate so I could flesh him out more in game, but his obscurity kinda fits into the theme you were looking for.
