There are a TON of books on sale at the moment (I never really checked the book bundles before...), apparently $245 worth of books for a TOTAL of $15 at Humble. If there are any VtM afficionados, can they recommend any of the books here? I understand there's a divide in opinion between some of the editions, and want to know if it's worth the cash. That also may slightly depend on people actually interested in a VtM game... www.humblebundle.com/books/vampire-masquerade-rpg-bundle

Oooh, that's my personal favourite edition of VtM. I recommend basically everything there. The stuff in the $15 section isn't that crucial, but it's still very good. I particularly like Clanbook Setite.
I'm not sure which edition of the Mind's Eye Theater (LARP) book that is, but my introduction to VtM was actually through LARP and it was a great time. Very minimal, but effective system.

Which also begs the question: If I buy it, will they come (play this game?)

Vampire: The Masquerade is, in my opinion, much better than its 'successor', Vampire: Requiem. Newer is definitely not always better. XD

Well I'm planning to run something this fall (starting around September?) and if I decide to do something new (instead of bringing back an old game) I'll probably do an interest check with a few ideas, including VtM. I really miss the World of Darkness.

This is awesome! I would so play. Ive been craving World of Darkness game for some time.
I still have my second edition book.
As far as the whole oWOD vs. nWOD? I think the classic had way better fluff and flavor and atmosphere but the new chronicles had superior mechanics. I personally thought vampire ported over well - especially the structure chronicle update. Other lines didn't fair soon well.
I am also really excited for V:TM 4th Ed too...

Eh, I'd be willing to play...I played it once and didn't like it, but I think that was more the chronicle than the game itself. Personally I'm more into the nWoD, or Chronicles of Darkness as they're calling it now, but I've been tempted to get the classic games.

Ive gamed in the world of darkness with some pretty interesting people. With the 20th anniversary stuff - it is actually better and easier to get into the classic stuff. The 20th annv. Books have been updated rules wise slightly to make it run smoother and have been modernized to our current time. Plus the 20 annv. Books have combined a ton of information from supplements and other sourcebooks. I'd recommend Vampire the Masquerade and Werewolf the Apocalypse as good starting points. Just make sure they are the 20th annv. Editions from onyx path

That could be, I only played a few sessions with VtM (I was new to tabletop RPGs at the time), and the first session was great, aside from a run in with the Technocracy (oddly enough after that I was actually trying to get the GM to let me play a Mage). Then the second session came along and I felt like the entire group was unimportant in the grand scheme of things. I mean we had to rescue someone important to the town prince...you'd think if we failed, there'd be more of an impact than the Prince saying "You're all incompetent, thank God I secretly hired another group in case you failed", then a moment where the GM seemed to have forgotten I was even playing, which ended in me announcing that my character decided his time was more important elsewhere when she finally remembered, and then after that the sessions turned into Mary Sue hour featuring the party.
I actually got the 20th Annv. edition yesterday, as a curiosity buy, and I plan on getting the 20th Annv. of MtA. I assume what I experienced in the campaign wasn't the norm, and if so I'd happily give it another go.

Played both old and new Vampire extensively for years and years (the other WoD games never worked with my group for long) and I really like both. The old one is the first one, has all that late 80's/early 90's feel embedded into it's core and it feels really cool when it's clean. Sadly the fluff got really convoluted and the system was pants on head crazy, so it takes some degree of work to make it clean. The new one, specially in its second edition is a well oiled machine that tends to work quite well most of the time, and the dual clan/alliance structure (even if it can get old if you play more than one nWoD game) tends to ease players into interesting ideas. The kind-of-bad side is that it doesn't echo the same age/feel of the first one, opting for a more ambiguous postmodern thing that isn't as evocative as the imaginary of the first one (just make the experiment of trying to remember how many vampire movies fit better in the old one than in the new one).
So yeah, both are great games that have made their mark along rpg history (I'm still playing VtR with my friends) and both are more than capable of serving as a great base for spectacular games (or horrible ones if mishandled, as always has been).

I never really successfully played or ran any of the World of Darkness games, but dig the settings and what I read of them. Would love to play something here if it ever materializes.
