Soooooooooo, big news for any Runaways fans out there: after struggling to put together a film based on the comic, Marvel has instead decided to greenlight a Runaways TV series!Difficulty: Hulu, not Netflix. Honestly, that comes as a pretty big blow to me. I'm a big fan of what Marvel has accomplished with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and I think the gang from Runaways would fit in really well in that world. You have to assume that this show is going to work in its own continuity, separate from the rest of the MCU. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise, who knows. I also can't speak to the quality of Hulu shows, as I don't have an account. But chances are it'll be better than what ABC would have done with the source material! Fingers cautiously, but optimistically crossed? ~TWF

Loved the comic, always thought that it was perfect for something like this, but the rumors never materialized until now. Will see how it goes.

Neat! I was very curious to see how they would cast this show - whether they would age-up some of the characters to justify more seasoned actors, or go straight to teens. Looks like they took a middle-ground. It's not surprising that they chose a slightly older actress to play Molly (actress is 14, character is 11), but I do wonder how much it will hurt the character. So much of early Molly revolves around a combination of her not understanding what's going on, and her friends not taking her seriously due to her age.
I don't mind the minor race-lifting on some of the characters, though I'm disappointed that Gert isn't as heavy-set as she is in the comics. The super hero world could really use some plus-size representation, but NBD.

Even if expected Molly's and Gert's casting is disappointing, as this seemed the kind of source material you could use to be a bit more forward, but yeah.

We got the first picture and despite the issues already mentioned, I'm optimistic.

So I've been posting all the relevant trailers out of SDCC and I'm a little concerned that we hardly heard a peep out of Runaways. We know the show is due out on this November 21st, but we have no trailer.
For reference, both Runaways and Cloak & Dagger began filming in February 2017, yet Cloak and Dagger had a surprisingly good, almost 2-minute trailer with some special effects out by mid-April. Here we are three months later and we still only have this one cast photo to go on. That is not a good sign.
I nominally trust the producers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (The O.C., Gossip Girl, Chuck) but I hear they're also sharing writers with Iron Fist, so.. yeah. I wonder if they're doing extensive reshoots or if there are other delays, or just what.
Honestly out of all the comic book properties out there, I was most looking forward to seeing something from Runaways.

Not having a trailer in SDCC is REALLY weird considering how "soon" the series will air and it doesn't bode well, but I hope it's just due to some reason that won't impact on the end result negatively because I love the source material.

We finally got a first look!
Not bad, although the montage is quite quick so it's hard to say.

That... uhm... actually looks okay!
As you say, those are some really short cuts, so who really knows, but it still looks okay. It didn't try to get by on pop music or smash-cuts or cheesy one-liners, but actually showed the plot, a little of each character (even Old Lace!) and it looks like a show.
It doesn't seem to have the same exact tone as the comics, which were a bit more cynical than what feels like a straight drama here, but I can dig it. I realize they've changed a few characters (Molly is older, and I hear Chase is quite different in personality) and they're wisely involving the parents a lot more (fully adult actors are a good thing) so I'm anticipating some tonal changes, too.
I think I've upgraded from "worried" to "optimistically cautious" (which is a small step below cautiously optimistic).

I've only seen the first episode, but I was a little disappointed. It's very hard for me to judge because I'm a huge Runaways fan, so I simultaneously have high expectations, and know basically everything that's going to happen. Still, I feel like the majority of the things they changed (and they've changed rather a lot) were either unnecessary, and/or detrimental to the story.
Fingers crossed that it settles in after the first ep. I know it's a very challenging story to adapt.

Molly is just too 'old'? She's supposed to be the youngest of the runaways in the original comic. At the very least they could have gone with a younger/shorter actor? Dunno. I guess time to watch this and see if it was any good. LOL.
