Well, depending on you four's preferences, it will be either a medieval/fantasy world from the get-go (in the original idea, the Videogame world would have been this), or it can be a modern world in which the supernatural and the paranormal has become real (due to an event which I will explain in further detail if we pick that option).
The former scenario might be closer to the original concept of the game world (as it was going to be a sword and sorcery world with castles, kingdoms and damsels in distress with heavy MMORPG aspects in it), but the latter opens up options which wouldn't make much sense with the former (guns, more advanced technology, big companies instead of neighboring countries, etc).
Both could be fun, so it's really up to you guys.
As for the general theme of the story, I'd still be going towards mysterious happenings, individuals manifesting strange powers, other people either dying or suffering from seemingly unexplained phenomenons (thought this time it wouldn't have to do with a computer game anymore), so I'm keeping most of the main themes of the game alive.

Without knowing anything else about the game can't really decide, so I could be either be very interested on any of those or in none, so go by majority and I'll answer then.

If you pick neither, then the majority will be the medieval fantasy one. Alright, let me put a little something together to give you an idea.
The lands of Gaea's centuries of relative peace were shaken to the core as threats arose all over its territories and countries. The Northewestern Solemnian Empire had changed leadership upon the suspicious death of its former benevolent ruler, and his daughter, the new Empress Viviana, set her gaze upon the outer lands with desires of conquest and conflict.
In the South, East and Southwest, the Kingdoms of Zulvaron and Xuria, alongside the Magocracy of Grisan sense the threat arise in the Northwest, but also evil rise across the lands, as a mysterious force seems to agitate the beasts and monsters of the underworld. People vanish without explanations, entire villages are destroyed overnight, leaving damaged houses and buildings, but no corpse in sight. Rumors of mysterious individuals wreathed in black smoke and wielding otherwordly powers abound, their intentions unknown, but the claims of their power hard to believe.
Tension grows as armies gather, as monsters arise, as ancient magic and powers which should have been forgotten are brought back to the surface. Peasants and nobles alike gaze at the horizon helplessly as they sense the peace they came to love being slowly shattered on all sides. And far across the frozen lands of the North, the Pillars of Eternity shine silently, as an ancient prophecy comes to pass.
Yet, within the turmoil, and the age of conflicts which inexorably comes for all in the land... despite, or perhaps because of the increasingly present magic in a world where it was once a rarity... heroes arise, to face the challenges that awaits them. Exceptional individuals gifted with a greater destiny, and a mystical link with the terrifyingly real entities known only through rumors as...
...the Aeons.

Looks fine, but I lost too much of the fire and momentum in the meantime to get hooked in. It's basically a completely different game, and I don't feel tempted enough, so feel free to use my slot with someone else that it's actually attracted.

Actually, it's not so much different as you think it is. The videogame world would have been very much this, only it would have been a MMORPG within the 'real world' verse, lol. Oh well, it's okay then.

...Hmm. Can we agree on, that's how it is mostly for the Solemnian Empire (and part of why they are so powerful and dangerous for the other nations), and the other nations have only a limited access to it at the beginning of the story?
...And yes, your character could be from the Solemnian Empire, as long as you're not evil and have a reason or two to be against your homeland's desire of conquest. XD

Yes, but... Please don't make a new character too fast, though. I will provide you guys with more info that might help you come up with something. Dionon, think I could bother you for a board, please? I'll put all the info there so we can get started as soon as possible, and we'll work on character creation there as well to simplify things... Board would be (all the names and text without the quotes as usual): "Aeon Solemnia" With the following text below: "An age of conflict begins anew.
