Christopher grew up in Connecticut with a family that not only encouraged excellence but punished if it was not achieved. Grades were not to fall below an A rooms were to be spotless every action and reaction were to be meticulously controlled. His father was a tyrant and would accept nothing but the best from his only child. Christopher for his part did excel in school but found he has a fascination with all things mystical. Such nonsense would never be accepted by his father but his grandmother fostered his beliefs.
His grandmother always encouraged him to study and figure things out for himself. If he were to ever come across the wrong answer she would not punish him but rather help him figure out where he had gone wrong. The first time Christopher brought magic up to her she told him to present research to her on how it could possibly be real. Eventually, Christopher did just that one of his best research papers was not for school but something at his grandmother’s request, there was so much passion and conviction in this assignment that his grandmother started to research with him or risk damaging her relationship with him. They came to realize that magic may not simply be stories but actual fact. There was enough scientific data to show that the unexplained truly did have a hold on this world.
She started to study with Christopher when they began his abilities were not all that flashy. It seemed as though mere coincidence. The very first “spell Christopher ever accomplished that was an undeniable use of power was a simple levitation…. Christopher had awakened before any of the servants, finding breakfast had yet to be set out the independent young boy of 10 went to the kitchen, a room he rarely ventured. He found his favorite cereal about 3 feet too high for him to reach. As he pondered the best way for him to get to his prize the doors to the cabinets opened on their own and the cereal floated to his hand. A gasp startled him spinning around he found the cook staring at him as though he had grown a second head she ran out of the room screaming. ” Le diable est dans le garçon nous devons fuir devant nous sommes tous pris .” After that the staff changed his grandmother asked him to refrain from practicing anywhere but her office and the boy learned a hard lesson; that even here he must control himself at all times.
Although he now felt he had to hide his abilities from the rest of the world Christopher realized his work had finally paid off. He was able to perform magic and he wanted more. Christopher redoubled his efforts to find artifacts and books that could be used. This was not something one might find at the public library but rather items had to be imported from other countries the occasional street vendor in odd locations seemed to have items of actual power and Christopher became a collector. He was no fool, however, while he did make some bad purchases Christopher became quite adapt and sifting through what was true magic and what was mere junk. He visited his grandmother every chance he got usually bringing one or two pieces with him hoping she had found something as well.
At the age of 14, Christopher's world came crashing down one December afternoon. School had just let out for the winter and he went for a visit, as he did during any school year, to his grandmother’s the only person with whom he was ever truly relaxed. The house was decorated for Christmas, there was even a cake and streamers to welcome him, but there was no one around. Chris waited, after 3 hours he tried to call the police but they would do nothing for two days, his parents were on vacation somewhere in Europe, so he stayed in the empty house and waited. Two days later the police came to investigate but none could find any signs of foul play. The only clues Chris himself could find was an old book of spells on his grandmother's desk. It was only notable because there was an amulet next to it he had never seen.
Christopher wanted APBs and all hands on deck he wanted someone to find his grandmother. The legal system should be able to do something, shouldn’t it?! Someone should be able to do something. Christopher’s frustration increased exponentially at what he believed was a lax system. Did they want money? No, he had offered but the police kept repeating the same thing “there is nothing we can do” His age was another factor no one was taking him seriously. If they will do nothing then it is up to Chris himself. Being so young people often underestimate the boy he hired private detectives but every time it seemed he was close the trail became cold.
School was about to start up again and Chris was no closer to finding his grandmother than he had been his very first day here. His freshman year of high school… was about to start again and he simply refused to go. Chris called and informed the school that he would be testing out. No… not of the 9th grade of high school in general. Yes, he realized that would mean taking the final exam for every class required for four years of school and yes he still wanted the advanced placement courses for his transcript…. Chirs’ lowest score was a 98 much to his chagrin. But Yale accepted him anyway. So Chris at the age of 14 started at Yale University. His plan was to finish with a master’s degree in Criminal Justice within the next 6 years, someone had to start making the system work.
The weeks turned to months turned to years. Christopher has finished school a year earlier than he expected and has accepted a job as a Detective in Gotham. He was able to keep his grandmother’s house with his trust, despite his father’s protest the house and his grandmother's money were all left to Christopher. So Chris has moved to the city, or rather the outskirts. Christopher has started practicing more openly as of late using that old book of spells, he uses it to help him in his career as well as with the stock market. He believes that magic took his grandmother from him. He knows he has to develop his gifts in order to figure out what happened and hopes one day to reverse whatever it was.
How to go about it though certainly using the law to find her is a step in the right direction but is that enough? His magic should be able to help but honestly, he has been so busy with getting an education that at most he has a working theoretical knowledge…. How can he possibly practice? Well, maybe the horse can help find the cart. Christopher cast his first spell in years as the power filled him he felt as though he were coming home. Indeed he was he was going to start living in his grandmother's mansion. He was practicing what he and his grandmother had learned he was going to find her and bring her home. He needed help this first spell was for guidance to bring him luck in finding a way to practice.
Chris had never been clumsy so imagine his chagrin when he slips on a piece of paper and falls his very first time stepping into his new precinct right on top of some older man. Some flyer ruined his entrance and complicated his attempt at making a good first impression on the city Commissioner.... Commissioner Gordon, whom apparently had been waiting on him. It is no secret that the boy who passed the detective's test so easily who simply is too young to be on the normal force has his own motives, after all, it is not as though the kid needs the money. Commissioner Gordon has already pulled his file and thinks the kid might be perfect for the Night Shift. That old house gives all his men the creeps and the boy has been ranting about magic for the better part of the past decade, Gordon knows about the existence of magic and suspects the kid knows more than he lets on so he intends to use that knowledge.
Days pass and finally he is ready to start at his new job. He looks out the window across the way he sees the Wayne Mansion. He vaguely remembers a smart business man and a kind woman with a young boy but that was years ago before he even discovered magic. The parents died if he remembers correctly and their son turns into a playboy... How disappointing, Chris would never fall in with Bruce he would simply never be that disloyal to someone who cared for him. He is going to practice magic and use the system to his advantage now he is going to start working with the police and see if he might find a solution to his grandmother's situation. Years ago he became strong enough to break every law of physics because he wanted some cereal what chance does whoever or whatever took his grandmother stand against that sort of will?
