Christopher travels over to the table to see if he can make heads or tails out of what she was working on.

You go over to the table, and start looking at the books and notes. The books primarily concern research into a language known as Dispilio, that has dated back to 5 - 6 thousand BC. The notes, all in your grandmothers handwriting seem to be attempting to find a way to translate it. Specifically translate the inscriptions on the stone disc at the centre of the circles.
The notes seem little more than scribbled notes or beginnings of pages that have been discarded.
Turning to the circles however you note that whilst the of the magic circles appear to use standard magical symbology, the inner two circles use letters or figures or symbols from this Dispilio.

Christopher studies the notes on how to decipher the langauge and then turns to the circles attempting to use what he knows to decipher what it is they are intended to do.

You read the notes and if anything they leave you with more questions rather than fewer.
Some of the pages appear to be the beginnings of pages of diary entries and from what little there are of them seem to start about a year before she disappeared. When you factor in the notes you can put together a vague picture of what happened
You get the idea that she came across the stone disc, from where it doesn't say, and immediately sensed magical power within in.
She apparently recognised that the symbols on the disc are in an archaic lost language, that is to say a language whose meaning has been lost to time. The books by George Hourmouziadis and Antonios Keramopoulos as well as several studies of other Phoenician and Slavic languages seemed to give tantalising clues but ultimately came to nothing.
Then the notes and diary entries stop, maybe a month before she disappeared. Whatever happened it happened fast and went undocumented, at least here.
However as you turn to look at the disc you understand her fascination. The disc isn't magical in and of itself, the symbols or words carved into it are giving it its power, and it is a power the likes of which you have never felt.
From your skim reading Dispilio is widely regarded as evidence of one of the first writing systems of the ancient world, so the fact that it could have a magical basis is compelling. The fact that the magic could be this powerful makes it doubly so.

He walks over to the stone tablet and sees if he can decipher what is written on it. Since it is the words themselves which give the magic.

You look at the disc without stepping across the circles, stepping into the middle of that much arcane energy is rarely a good thing.
You know magic, witchcraft and enchanting are your areas of expertise but you are familiar with the principles of most types of magic. Arcane forces are created, channels and directed to produce magical effects. It's how all magic works. As you look at the circles and the disc it is almost as though this fundamental magic principle is being ignored. Symbols on the disc seem to, for want of a better phrase, resonate with symbols on the ground. No magic is created it simply appears as if the very act of resonance produces the magic. To say you have no idea what is going on would be an enormous understatement. What you are seeing appears to defy the laws of magic as you know them.
You understand now however why your grandmother became fascinated with this disc. It's like someone invented an entirely new set of laws to govern the existence of magic. Translating what the words mean might be the key to a whole existance but without a frame of reference you wouldn't know where to begin.

He studies the tablet so that he is certain he can recreate it in exact detail if he needs to and then moves over to the circles and studies them memorizing and identifying how they work and if possible what they do.

You study the runes one last time and assuming that simply writing them is enough then you know you can reproduce them.
Regrettably things in the magical world are never that simple. Knowing how to write a word of power can be as difficult as learning a spell.
You look back to the circles and notice that the outer most circle is written normally, it appears to be a circle of magical containment, to protect those outside the circle from that which is inside. If it is still effective then the magic inside the circle must be very powerful for you to be able to feel it out side of it.

Putting everything back isn't hard, unless you count the dust and then it's hard. You know where everything should go though and once in place you head to your garage and your habitual luck spell.
And of course everything goes screwy from there on in.
Heading to the university seems like the logical choice, then the car refuses to start. This is the same car you had plans to make fly so not starting is a bad sign. Then eventually you manage to coax it into life and half way down the drive the front left tire blows out. You are definitely not using that car to go to the university.
This would seem to be a case of your luck spell actively trying to prevent you from going somewhere. Maybe going there would be unlucky?

Cursing up a storm Christopher goes back to the house finding Adthorpe.
I require someone to fix my car as it seems to have trouble starting and has blown a tire. And I need to look at Beths purse when you bring the tea please bring that back to me.
Christopher goes back to the library and uses his vision to backtrack the movements of the man who entered room.

"At once sir."
You return to the library and stand in front of the door. It requires once again that you put magical defences up, though knowing the door is there now makes things easier. The spell on the door appears to have been quite expertly tampered with. Whoever cut it did it in such a way as to make the circle less effective, but not to completely disable it. It is a cautious approach, and implies a great deal of knowledge.
As you look Adthorpe enters the room, puts down the tray with the tea and the purse and stands back.
"Will that be all sir?"
(OOC - As a side note you are currently under a -1 sit mod to intelligence based skills due to tiredness)

Yes thank you.
Christopher moves the tray into his study off the library, turns on his computer, pours a cup of tea and looks into the purse with his mystical senses. He thoroughly investigates the contents purse, if he believes it is safe to do so, while the computer loads. He then pulls up the security footage around the house particularly the library and watches to see who was tampering with the door.

The security cameras in your home cover strategic areas but are still more than enough to give you clues. About an hour after you left for work yesterday a man knocked on your door. The door was answered by Adthorpe who spoke to him and then let him in, the man is then shown around the house by Adthorpe and leaves apparently having not spent a moment alone. The man is John Constantine.
The area of the door is not covered by the cameras but you can imagine what happened. John talked his way in, asked to be shown around, Adthorpe did so doing his level best to monitor him. John spotted the door and stepped in front of it and at this point the spell would have incapacitated Adthorpe, John weakened the spell, went into the room, looked around the room noticed the hidden door and left.
The spell probably made Adthorpe forget the entire incident which is why he hasn't mentioned it to you.
Why John Constantine was looking around your home is another matter but given that he left the card and the clue with your Captain perhaps she has some answers.

If Dyre had answers she would have been better served volunteering them rather than this round about bullshit, Christopher thinks to himself. He looks into his directory for the department and calls her up to get them, not really caring what time it is.
