So your argument boils down to "They changed this character from the source material so it sucks now."
I'd relate more if I hadn't seen so many worse examples this decade alone.

What I'm trying to say is there is no definitive version of Batman... He can be reimagined and reinterpreted in many different ways.
Why can't the Joker?

What I'm trying to say is there is no definitive version of Batman... He can be reimagined and reinterpreted in many different ways. Why can't the Joker? Batman is still Batman without the Joker. The Joker is nothing without Batman. Beyond that, I would argue that every well done version of the Joker has had certain things in common. Things that this version does not.

(Note that I actually referenced several different versions of The Joker in my explanation of who the Joker is... Joker "Prime", animated Joker, Killing Joker Joker... they're all easily recognizable as the same character...)

A good Batman/Joker story is like a majestic unicorn. But Batman without the Joker is still a nice white stallion, whereas the Joker without Batman is basically a stick.

There are villains I'd love to see a movie about, even without their typical nemeses. I think a faux-biopic about Lex Luthor could be amazing, and Ra's Al Ghul has enough backstory and is complicated enough of a character to be a trilogy ending with him running into Batman. Joker doesn't make that cut

Of all the DC characters I want to see done right, I think it's Lex Luthor. And building a rogues' gallery of awesome villains that don't die at the end of every movie would be something DC could have that Marvel is only just starting to put together, sort of. Not that I think they should keep trying to compete directly with Marvel; I'm glad they're kinda doing their own thing now.

I fully believe that the best possible way to use their properties is a shared universe like Marvels, but they botched that completely. They don't want to scrap the little bit of success they've had, either, and start over, so I guess this "our movies don't necessarily take place in the same universe" thing is fine... but I'm really, really confused as to why the new Wonder Woman movie isn't a sequel to the previous one. That part makes absolutely no sense to me, and kind of makes me not care about the new movie, in spite of really liking the first one.

Watched it last night and it's a mostly empty and morose affair, catching some (or a lot) of Scorsese at surface level having nothing behind but Joaquin Phoenix exerting himself to save the movie.

Look at the bright side. It all led to this masterpiece.

Just seen it. Slow burner, lots of camera panning slowly over not much going on, sound is deafening in places. That said, it kinda of works. It was that or Gemini man so I plumped for this seeing as G Man has such terrible reviews from people who;ve seen it.
Joker was ok. Not great or terrible.
