Driving the beat up 'no one would bother stealing it' van home, Oliver hoped he hadn't blown it.
With a sigh he rolled up to the garage and parked next to the Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini... A few minutes later he was under a hot shower and thinking about his next move.
After a night cap of expensive Whisky it was sack time, but sleep didn't come easy.
=======
"Mr Queen, I called Allied Shipping like you asked but they weren't interested in selling the company. Even when I mentioned your terms would be generous if everything proved to your satisfaction they insisted that the company wasn't for sale. At any price." said Marcy, his company secretary.
Everyone had a price. Apparently not these people. For a humble shipping firm they seemed remarkably self assured and confident of their ability to survive in the cut throat world of business.
That suggested they truly loved their work and did it for more than money or... maybe, they had something to hide. The latter, and Oliver Queen's instincts suggested he would find *something* at that compound, whether in the offices or the warehouse. What could be so important that they turned down the offer of making a fast buck by selling up?
Unfortunately last nights failure might mean they beefed up security. They'd have found the cut wire and known *someone* was snooping about. That meant he didn't have much time before they decided to move whatever was so important to them. Without evidence of wrong doing, the cops wouldn't be able to pin anything on them and they'd literally get away with murder, assuming they were tied up in the death of their employee.
Dare he risk going in at night again as Green Arrow or even worse, during the day? Aside from being nigh on invisible to hide out inn the open dressed in dark green and sporting a bow, they'd most likely call the cops and have him arrested for trespass. Without a warrant the cops couldn't do a damn thing at that compound.
At times like this he wondered how Batman managed. Probably punch first and ask questions later. A direct, and probably well deserved approach, in this case...

Oliver steps into the workshop he shares with Dinah Laurel Lance, the Black Canary, and takes inventory of his bugging equipment. Maybe he has something small that can fly in the facility and snoop around for him...something untraceable. Failing that, perhaps he can go on site as Oliver Queen, not taking "no" for an answer and bug the facility himself.
If only he knew a great hacker who could get intelligence from Alliance via a computer. Maybe someone blonde and cute and named Felicity Smoak? Or if only he knew some John who was a professional bodyguard that could get employment as a guard and work this case from the inside. He would really Diggle, I mean dig, that.

OOC Depends on which version of Green Arrow we're using whether Felicity Smoak exists (According to wikipedia... Felicity Smoak is a fictional character appearing in comics published by DC Comics. Her first appearance was in The Fury of Firestorm #23 (May 1984), created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Rafael Kayanan.[1] She was originally the manager of a computer software firm who opposed the superhero Firestorm because of his recklessness, eventually becoming the second wife of Edward Raymond and stepmother to Ronnie Raymond, one-half of the integrated dual identity of the superhero.) John Diggle likewise is a creation (as far as I can tell) of the Tv show. I suppose for our purposes we can re-imagine things some more...
"John." "Mr Queen" came the reply down the phone. "Everything alright sir?"
John Diggle was a former army special forces operative who had been hired by Oliver Queen as driver/bodyguard/go to guy for favours and errands. He was highly paid and rightly so - he was very, very good at whatever he turned his hand to. So far he hadn't been made aware of Olivers dual identity but Green Arrow thought he could trust him with his secret.
"Who do I know that can find stuff out from computers? I ... have some connections, but it won't be cheap. Or ... uh... um. This line isn't secure. We need to chat. I'll get over there."
40 minutes later Diggle leaned against Olivers desk. "I know a young lady who's feeling the heat at the moment. The FBI are VERY interested in her and rightly so. She hacked into their most secure servers for 'kudos'. They are trying to get something on her to make it stick. She covers her tracks very well, but they might get her this time. I could... pull a couple of strings on some favours I'm owed. It won't be cheap and you'll owe me!" he smiled. "Depends on how much you wanna use her. She might bring heat down on you - she's hot stuff, in more ways than one. Me? I'd steer clear, but hey..." he shrugged.

"John, are you familiar with Allied Shipping or its retired USMC leaders, Major Roger Nathan and Captain Arnold Jensen? Their new business has done remarkably well, but they're not interested in selling. I'm a little suspicious that it may be due to something they're doing that is illegal. Maybe transporting drugs or worse. Their warehouse has extensive security, more than would be expected for a small commercial shipping company. I can't go to the police solely on a hunch, but think it should be checked out. Would you be willing to help me check it out. Either in person or by taking a look-see at their files? I'm just a concerned citizen. I'm not looking for inside information on a trade. However, I would like to know to stop pursuing this little financially successful gem if they are up to no good."
"So, will you help me John? It's alright if you say 'no'."

"This is a matter for..." started Diggle. He could see how much this meant to Oliver and sighed. "Dammit. I suppose. You pay me well enough as a bodyguard and if you're going to do something stupid I should be there to drag your ass out of the way."
"I'll look into them and see what I can come up with... unless... have you already done some digging? What have you found. Let's cross the Ts and dot the I's before we blunder into something we should keep our noses out of..."
"Then we'll come up with a plan. You tell me what you want to do and I'll point out where it's going to go wrong."
Despite the resigned huffing and puffing Oliver could tell he'd persuaded his friend to help.
"What about this hacker. Want her on board? I don't know the people you mention but I wouldn't be surprised to find ex Military types with their fingers in slightly dodgy pies."

"John, this will be dangerous, so it's best to get all the help we can. A couple people associated with Alliance have wound up dead, killed by a unique knife wound that only an ex-military could have inflicted." Oliver describes the mark and draws it on a paper for Diggle. "I would like both of us to avoid meeting a similar fate. The authorities are looking into this, but see no connection between multiple drug related deaths and this one small company. However, they didn't try to purchase the company and be given a flat out 'no'. There is something fishy going on, but I'd need more evidence for a judge to grant a warrant."
"Seattle is our city John, we've got to keep it safe. Once we've got evidence, physical or electronic, we send it anonymously to Detective Lieutenant Wayne Cameron. That's the plan."

John Diggle groaned. "This smells, feels and looks like trouble... but I'm in."
He pondered for a moment. "I'm ex military. How about I go fishing about, or pose as someone down on their luck and looking for a job? Only problem is they'll be stupid if they don't check me out. Going in with a wire could be risky."
"Another option is to watch the place. Tail whoever goes in and out then lean on them a little."
"This is your play man. Make the calls, and we'll see where it takes us."

Oliver Queen is a rich man, and so even in the 1980s he had some of the world's first mobile phones. [OOC: I'm not sure what year it is.]
"I think a stakeout is a good idea. Take a mobile phone and call me at this number if you see trouble."
Oliver gives John a number he can use to reach him at. Meanwhile, Green Arrow is going to do his own stakeout. Hopefully, Diggle will just think Green Arrow showing up at the first sign of trouble if a coincidence, because that's what vigilantes do.
"It may not be a bad idea to also have this lady you know try to hack their system for evidence. Maybe she can also deactivate their security system for you if needed."

OOC The adventure is written for 1e which was 85 ish. No internet (as such) mobile phones like bricks with a battery pack to lug about and hackers would need to get to a computer/keyboard, Wargames style with someone typing as they talk, for some reason...
Diggle shrugs, lugs the phone with him and takes off in the car, but not before giving the hacker friend a call.
He then turns, explaining "She'll need to get at the computer to get into it. I explained that's not really an option but she's up for the challenge if we can arrange it."
=========
"All quiet on the western front." reports Diggle.
"It's only been a few hours but the place looks fairly well locked down. I'm seeing... half a dozen guards on rotation and patrol, no movement in or out... Looks like a standard set up but the security is warmer than I'd have thought. Sure, renta a cops are cheap but normally out of shape and nowhere near as vigilant as these guys appear to be. Maybe there is something being hidden here." he says down the phone.
Green Arrow from his vantage point listens on the phone line watching the compound from a pair of binoculars.
"Right I'll get back to it." says Diggle. "I'd forgotten how much fun stakeouts aren't."
OOOC is it an all night job? I'm also thinking of going 'off piste' with a surprise addition to the adventure as (like the last one we played) it's turning out to be a little lacking in action (not your fault, it's the adventure that's lacking much in the way of excitement so I'm thinking of adding an element the game designers never thought of... Your call though. We can stick to the adventure 'as written' if you prefer)

OOC: Whatever you think best.
"John, I want to meet this hacker before putting that much trust in her. Queen Industries can always use another overpayed person in tech support. Tell her she's hired and ask her what salary she wants. I'm going to try to get some info on this company from my Lebanese contacts at the United Nations. I wonder if there's a anyplace in Seattle that delivers late night shawarma and baklavah." Oliver has to keep his cover as a rich flake in front of Diggle...for now.
While Green Arrow remains hidden and alert, he calls his connections at the United Nations to find out if they know anything about Allied.
Move Action: Remaining hidden and alert.
Dice Action: Charisma Roll to persuade United Nations connections? (Let me know if I need to roll or feel free to roll for me.)

Diggle replies "Roger That. I'll set up a meet. In the meantime... I'll keep watching this place with one eye open, the other firmly closed, like in the old days."
"Which I thought were far behind me." he sighed.
"If you do manage to rustle up some food see that some gets sent to me. Diggle out."
=========
With another call and a short time on hold Green Arrow calls his contact at the United Nations.
"Yeah. Oh hey, how you doing? thanks for that... uhm, thing the other month. It turned out well. What can I do ya for?" replied the contact on the other end of the scrambled line. Even then, no names were handed over.
Green Arrow explained why he was calling.
"Yeah. Ok. Lemme see. Hmmm. Hang on just switching terminals. Can never be too careful. And uh... heh... log in details." a chuckle down the line, some typing. A pause.
"Hmmm. Yeah. That's strange. The profile looks ok, no IRS flags, no ... hang on a sec. Uh oh. Yup. Flagged. That code... 236... it's... FBI code. It's on their active watch list. I'd stay clear pal. Logging off... hopefully they won't have had time to track... ah crap. Time to go. Hey, thanks for that thing the other month, 'kay? Don't worry about this end, Smith will get the blame, he's a douche anyway. Later, man."
FBI. Active Watch. Green Arrow looked through the binoculars again. There's was something wrong with this place. He just needed to get in to find out what it was...

Did Detective Cameron but the company on the FBI watch list or was this a prior situation? Green Arrow is definitely not going to stay clear, but he needs either a vehicle to approach the facility or leave from it to make his move. Carefully, he inches toward the road to see how fresh the latest tire tracks are.
Actions: Keeping to the shadows but moving to the road in order to get a sense of how highly trafficked the facility is at night.
