In fact, Jason took delivery of a number of major newspapers and read them religiously as part of his morning routine.
"I pick it up now and then," he allowed. "Do you own it?"
He walked with Luthor towards the exit, not from any desire to socialize with the man, but from a keen interest in his driver, the Amazon. Between that rare specimen of womanhood and the ring he wore, it was clear that there was much more to Lex Luthor than met the eye.

Luthor smiled, as if he'd never thought of the idea, but of course he had. "No, no, conflict of interest for a man as powerful as myself to own a major news outlet. Besides it seems as if the editor of the Planet has it out for me, or at least he won't put the stops to Miss Lane slandering me. The reason I asked, though, is, well, I'm sure you've seen the recent splash made by the so-called Superman? Big fellow, square jaw, red cape, you can't miss him. I was thinking perhaps you might be able to shed some light on some of his more... arcane abilities."

"Ah," Jason said, glad to see Luthor playing a card he could use. "I noticed that you were a man of, shall we say, curiosities that the press doesn't need to know about. Your driver for instance. And your ring. Might I ask where you acquired it? I won't ask where you heard of my unusual expertise. A man like you asks the right questions and my name is sure to come up sooner or later."

Luthor was visibly disappointed that his knowledge of Blood didn't put the other man off-guard, but he rolled with it, something he'd probably mastered long ago. "The ring? The ring is just a ring, but the stone is martian. At least that's my best guess. Found it in a meteor I purchased. Gives off an unusual form of radiation, never catalogued here on Earth. I see that you also know about The Amazons. I must say, I'm surprised. My people said you were exceptional, but even so.
"The caped fellow is all well and good for now, but I worry, what if he decides he doesn't need to follow our laws? Bullets don't seem to harm him at all. I'm working on other ideas, just in case we end up needing them. Nobody in government will listen to me. I was wondering if you had any ideas from your particular area of expertise..."

Jason thought for a moment.
"There are may hidden things in this world," he said, slowly, "and most of them are best left that way. I have no special knowledge of this so-called Super Man, but I would be curious to know what brings him into the open. I think you're wise to be concerned – and prepared. His actions may be altruistic, or they may be designed to lull the masses..."
Hernan was like that, Jason mused. His whole strategy to subdue the empire of Tenochca revolved around his ego. Set hiself up as a god, then reap the plunder... Jason shook himself free of the memories.
"Ordinarily I prefer to tend to my own business, but – if there were a way to encounter him, to meet him – perhaps I could discern more..."
He stopped and extended his hand to Mr. Luthor.
"I'm glad we spoke of this. It sounds like you're looking for answers I don't have – when you do have them, please send for me. I'll do what I can."

"Perhaps you'll have to come to Metropolis then. I've yet to determine what the limits of his hearing are, but I know that his uncanny ability to be wherever he's needed is based in part on the ability to hear at greater range and more selectively than an ordinary human."
The Amazon woman opened the door for them as they exited the lobby. "Thank you Mercy." From the tone of Lex's voice, he actually regarded the woman, "Mercy", rather warmly. Where any many, much less a man like Luthor, acquired the loyalty of an Amazon was a mystery unto itself.
"Well Mister Blood, I've got to return to my city, keep it safe in my own way. I do hope you consider a visit to Metropolis, and don't let Wayne manipulate you into something just because you both come from old money. You know and I know that there is more to this world than a whelp like Wayne could ever imagine. You've more in common with me than with him. You'll come to see that."

Apparantly he doesn't know as much about me as he thinks he does. And what is it about a Martian stone that so angers you, Rhyming One? Or were you afraid?
"Have a safetrip back to Metroplois," he said, his eyes watching Mercy. "I'm sure we'll see each other again soon."

A single word echoed through Blood's mind, a stern correction. KRYPTONIAN The word meant nothing to Blood, and didn't sound particularly magical in nature.
He didn't have much time to ponder it though, as another problem, his kind of problem, seemed to be brewing across the street. Wayne Tower stood in the center of the neighborhood that the Waynes had begun renewing decades ago, and across the way was One Police Place, the new central administration building. In front of it totally not a uniformed police officer (probably a consulting detective or something) was talking to Detective A.J. Flass, a face that frequently adorned the covers of the local papers for high profile arrests, and with them... one Jonah Hex. A soul even Hell wouldn't take, if the stories were true. Blood could feel magic pouring off of the old cowboy from across the street. Something was astir, and where men like Hex went, bloodshed quickly followed.
