Seeing the carnage strewn across the Old Square sent a frozen bolt down her spine that fizzled into an electric adrenaline. Then, the quiet woman keeping to herself snapped into an automatic, determined momentum. Jarhead snapped Marilyn's jacket into her hand, and stalked out the back, having seen her head that way. The door swung open and Jarhead had to adjust her point of view pretty abruptly. The vet's head tilted up with an awkward jerk, a surprised facial shrug hopping across her face. She was going to need to get used to surprises around here. Jarhead put her fingertips to her lips and let out a sharp whistle before cupping her hand to her mouth. "You're gonna wanna get in here," Jarhead hooked the jacket to the doorknob and went back into the center, just on time to receive her orders.
Dana had never been through a portal. MRI machines and radiation was about the closest she could get. Could it really be any worse than those had been? Without asking questions, the soldier walked through the portal and on the other end, realized the last time she experienced the sensation that just tore through her body was when she was on chemo. Her stomach turned and burned, but she settled a moment later. For now, she held her position as she waited for the others.
Her mind could not help but be transported back to Bialya. Demolition and destruction, the smell of gunfire and explosives, screams and blood, all noise, orders, and chaos. It looked like the end of the world, but the rest of the world was still turning. Back then, the Big Man was still around. Took a bomb where the earth met the void and the eruption opened like the eye of an angry god before stretching and staining the clouds and her cells. Dana grit her teeth, her old wounds itching, her body wanting to rot but the K not letting it. Good. It was her turn to help, so she took off from the edge of the roof, hurtling for the ground below.

Fergal hand been mid ladle when the Bibbo turned on the TV. Upon seeing the carnage let loose by the metallic monster, it seemed like all time stopped. His brain began going though countless calculations to the point he felt like his head was going to explode. The sound of the ladle that he had just had in his hand clanking against the tile floor of the soup line quickly snapped him back to reality.
It wasn't until he heard Mercy over his earpiece that the panic and terror truly began to set in. Sure he'd help take out a couple of muggers after donning his exoskeleton and becoming Taranis, but this was different. This was a man, if you could still call him a man, that could go toe to to with Superman himself. "Feck, feck, feck." The other members of Delta team were fighters, soldiers, and pure powerhouses. Fergal was just a guy with some tech and enhanced intelligence.
He kept telling himself that the mission was just to help evacuate the people, and that was it. But as soon as Aethyr opened those portals, he knew that was about to change. Metallo had just wiped out Alpha team. Those were Luthor's most experienced and trusted soldiers in the war to make a better world. As soon as he and the others step through, what's to keep Metallo from targeting them. From targeting him.....
Still though, Fergal knew that this is what he signed up for. Everyone else was jumping through without hesitation and here he was trying not to wet his pants. But people needed his help. His team needed his help. He reaches down to his wristwatch, and with a turn of face ring, his exoskeleton begins to to emerge piece by piece from his backpack. To the average onlooker, they would think the whizzing and whirling mechanical parts were working of their own free will, but he knew the weeks he spent in the lab, working through every line of code so that just donning this exoskeleton without the assistance of a gaggle of lab techs could be possible.
In the moments it takes the exoskeleton to attach itself to Fergal's body and lock into place, he begins focusing his thoughts on any of the cybernetic projects he had worked on while at LexCorp. If this evacuation turned into a battle, maybe he could find some way to infest and override the mechanics of Metallo's cybernetic body.
With a deep breath and a prayer to anyone out there in the vastness of the universe who might be listening, Taranis steps through the portal and is quickly jutted to the destination that Aethyr had entrusted them to land.

Luckily for her, Marilyn was outside and didn't see the explicit massacre ongoing at Old Square. Stretching out outside, it wasn't long until she heard a shrill whistle, so she looked down to meet Jarhead's serious face. "Again?" Marilyn protested, although weakly, since Jarhead was already on her way back in so there was no one listening. She was about to focus again into a manageable size, as awkward as that felt, but Aethyr's strange voice-in-the-head trick warned her that there was some other plan. Marilyn had avoided getting through one of those strange portals so far, but they seemed to have orders so she had to.
She didn't second guess herself much, after all she was there for exactly those kind of things, and if people could use her help she wasn't going to be squeamish about the weird means of transportation. Aethyr had managed to make one big enough for her, providing she crouched a bit, so she thanked the effort guessing the size. It would take a while for her to be at peak physical form after being small, but she could manage. She was going to have to.
Marilyn, the American Dream or just Dream for short, got out from the portal and stood tall in front of a nightmare. Were those the members... no, it couldn't be, and yet. Luckily she had seen and survived some gruesome scenes in both Markovia and in her way to the United States, so she managed to avoid getting sick and making a scene. The sights made her distracted enough to hiss a Markovian swear word, but she didn't think anyone else on the team had heard her so she should be fine.
She eyed the surroundings, looking for civilians trapped in that battlefield that could use her strength to either free them of the debris restraining their path or as a ride, but with her size she couldn't help to seek for Metallo himself. Yeah, they weren't supposed to engage him, but what was going to happen when he engaged them? It wasn't like she could go unnoticed.

As the team arrived on the scene, the full extent of the damage was horrifically clear. Metallo had torn down a pair of the struts that held the elevated train up, causing a derailment. It looked as if most people inside were dead, but survivors could be seen trying to find ways to get out of some of the four cars... and worse, another train of four cars was heading toward the gap, seemingly unable to stop.
There had been a group of people at the small memorial that the citizens had erected on the median near where Superman had died in the street, it looked as if they were probably Metallo's first target. People of all descriptions lay dead, and it even appeared as if Metallo had used his eye beam to burn the small tokens people had left at the makeshift memorial.
On one side of the square stood the legendary Metropolis Theater, the oldest theater still in operation in Metropolis. The Marquee had been ripped down, probably by Metallo, and thrown to the far side of the square, slamming several cars and their occupants, now trapped, against the buildings on that side. Broken windows were on all sides, windows not meant to be opened, and there were people dangling from them. Those that recalled the fight between Superman and Doomsday here would know that when combatants with this level of strength start throwing blows, the shockwaves alone cause significant damage to the surrounding area. Likely these people thought they were safe watching the battle from several stories up, and found out the hard way just how wrong they were.
All around, there were people in need of rescue. Metallo himself was striding around, looking for more damage he could cause, and shouting for Luthor to "send more freaks, send ALL the freaks..."
Their LexTech gear fired up, immediately speaking into their ears and projecting a small image on the inside of their eyes with relevant data from the LexCorp database.
Metallo aka John Corbin Kryptonite Fueled Cybernetic Organism Known Abilities: Near indestructibility, Flight, Superhuman strength classed near Superman's own. Red energy projection (from left eye), acts as cutting laser and can be used to rapidly reduce the energy reserves of Kryptonians. Green energy projection (from chest), destructive, lethal to Kryptonians. Known Weaknesses: Rapid energy depletion, especially in earlier iterations. Use of his Green Kryptonite Beam still seems to depower him quickly Known Associates: Many, but is particularly dangerous when paired with Reactron, who seems to have the ability to provide Metallo with unlimited energy. LexCorp Note: Metallo contains significant amounts of stolen LexCorp equipment and data. Reward for undamaged retrieval. SPECIAL ORDERS: DO NOT ENGAGE! PROTECT CIVILIANS, AVOID CONTACT!

Dana's heart slammed a mile a minute in her chest, already heaving with one deep, adrenaline fueled breath after the next. So much was happening all at once, and while she was used to a battlefield, this was one steep as hell adjustment. Still, war was war, and her whole purpose was always to serve and protect. A glance was given to the train cars, something she knew she could stop, but not safely, not with civilians on board. A couple others on the team could do it, she knew that: "We need to stop that train!" Jarhead called above the din. Maybe she was not totally comfortable in the press or media circuit, but at ground zero she appeared to come alive. "I got the marquis!" Shouting orders, working to each other's strengths to carry out orders, this was where she was meant to be.
Her legs pumped in a quick sprint to reach the Metropolis Theater marquis that had once crowned a historic gem that had hosted many field trips when she was a kid, and a couple awkward dates before she enlisted. Now that proud banner was trapping civilians against the building on the other side of the square. "Let's see what you can do, girl," she muttered to herself and clamped her hands into the marquis, prying it off the cars before she sank that grip into the twisted metal of the cars. "More civilians above -- hngh!" She wrenched as much mass and metal away as she could, anything to free the trapped citizens. "It's okay," she flicked a few wild sprays of red hair from her eyes and flashed a tired grin at the entrapped. "It's okay, I got you, but we gotta move."

"I don't think I can handle the trains by myself" was the only thing Marilyn said before approaching the elevated rail, time was of the essence. She doubted if she could just pick up the upcoming train from the rails without harming the people inside, so that was left as a last resort maneuver. As things were, she could pray open the already derailed one and serve as an impromptu escape lift for them. She aimed to transport in her hands as many people as she could, leaving them on the ground while instructing for them to abandon the area, helping the injured as needed as if she took them out by herself there was no way she would be back on time to help the rest. When she got her powers it was kind of funny how small everyone was, but now all she could see was how frail those citizens were, how easy it would be to make a mistake and harm someone.
She wasn't small anymore, she was there to protect others from suffering like she did.

As Simon took in the destruction beyond the portal, the electric buzz around him intensified and he floated up into the sky. With an effort he pushed all the incidental details of the situation out of his conscious thoughts, storing them elsewhere in his mind, a necessary trick he'd learned from the dual horrors of war and crimes scenes. It was his nature to assess before acting, but there didn't seem to be time for that. The woman – he'd already forgotten her name as he steeled himself for battle – shouted orders, but his eyes were on the metal monstrcity causing so much harm.
A profile of the man flashed across his visor, including the orders: "DO NOT ENGAGE!" But what better way was there to protect innocents on the field of battle than to remove the primary agressor from it?
"I don't think I can handle the trains by myself," American Dream called out, her voice echoing over the chaos. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he chuckled that he could remember her name but not the other one's. Grunt Girl?
His focus shifted to take in her situation.
"Damn. I've got the incoming train – clear out the other one!"
The scientists at LexCorp had explained that his cells were trapping graviton particles, and that his power was tied to his ability to manipulate them. With more focus than he ever had in his life, Starwhak directed those particles to the oncoming train and light radiated from him and danced around him as the force of gravity distorted. For a moment, the gravity holding the train to the track reversed to dislodge it, then vanished entirely to avoid rattling the passengers further. He'd pace the now-flying train a few blocks over to park it adjacent to a tall rooftop so the passengers could disembark.

As soon as he came out of the portal, Fergal dropped to his knees and watched as his breakfast released itself in a puddle right in front of his face. Those portals are something that he had still not gotten used to. He had passed out the first time in training when Aethyr sent them through, so just loosing his breakfast was an improvement. That's when the smell hit. Mixed with his own stomach acid was the smell of burning rubber, flesh, and fire. As his eyes came into focus, the carnage became apparent. If he hadn't just purged himself, he knew he would have at that.
He then focuses on the heads up display. Information he already knew, but one thing stuck out. SPECIAL ORDERS: DO NOT ENGAGE! PROTECT CIVILIANS, AVOID CONTACT! Fergal looks around and hears Jarhead shouting out orders. The trains are quickly taken care of, and civilians are being ushered away. So many of the members of these teams came from some sort of military background, and it showed. He spent most of his life in a lab looking at 1's and 0's, and the idea of combat on this scale terrified him. Still though, he had been trusted by Mr. Luthor with a job, and he was going to do that job to the best of his ability.
Once his knees stopped shaking in his exoskeleton, he began to move into action, helping guide people to what clear alleys and streets he could see, constantly keeping one eye on the deranged Metallo rampaging in the square. He wanted to just run with the civilians, but he knew he had to do something. It was only a matter of time before Metallo stopped shouting to send him the freaks and started focusing on the "freaks" that had just dropped in.
After guiding a group to safety, Taranis begins to type furiously on his onboard computer that he had built into his suit. Going head on with Metallo was certain death, but IF he could find someway to hack into his cybernetics, he might be able to slow the beast down.

As the team sprung into action saving people, Metallo looked at each of them in turn, disappointed as each sprung to rescue someone rather than come at him.
"Oh, I see. Rescue. Do not engage. Clever, Lex, except it leaves your people vulnerable to..."
Metallo turned his head, and as his gaze fell on Fergal, the human half of his face smiled. A burning sensation began at the base of Fergal's spine, but not his spine, really... it was data, not meat, that was under attack, and his mind was doing its best to interpret what was happening. "You think better than you haven't tried to hack Metallo? Tell you what... if you survive, I'll find you and rip you apart to find the best way to improve my countermeasures."
Ignoring Fergal after that, he turned and looked at the rest. "Now then, which one of you dies first? You all look like you think you're real h heroes or something, so who should I....? Oh screw it, when in doubt, kill some plebs and see who steps up..."
The team's rescue efforts were working, but Metallo opened up the red energy beam that projected from his cybernetic eye, burning through the levitating train car like a hot knife through butter. The people inside didn't even have a moment to scream before their lives were cut short by the blast.
Fergal was perhaps the luckiest, as he wasn't able to see the massacre. He found himself in an alien landscape, a world of oddly angled crystals and floating alien script. A wire-frame in the shape of a man stood there, and Fergal somehow recognized this as an artificial intelligence construct that was part of Metallo's defense mechanisms.
"You are not of Kryptonian origin. Prepare to be purged."

"NO!"
With her hands full helping the people in the other train, she could do little but shout. If Superman was alive he would have saved them. Of course, not even him could save everyone, he didn't fix her war torn country, did he? But he did his best, she knew that from the bottom of her heart. He did die saving the city after all. Was Marilyn afraid of doing the same? At that moment her thoughts were racing, blurry, unclear. Was she afraid? The situation was too insane to really consider it, she did feel her breath run ragged, her heart thump on her chest. She had fought her whole life to survive, she wasn't one to throw that away.
But it wasn't fear of death. If she was afraid of dying she wouldn't have got into the perilous course that ended with her out the country. She would have settled, compromised, maybe turned to unsavory practices to stay alive outside while she died inside. But that wasn't a life she wanted, not back there nor here.
Metallo could fly, so the thought of attempting to grab him and throw him up into the sky with all her might to make up some time was beyond foolish. They weren't supposed to engage, she knew that. They weren't a match, not even the Alpha team was, so how could they?
Marilyn fought back the tears, the frustration. Each person they managed to get out of there was a person safe, each life counted. She couldn't focus on the ones lost, not at that moment, or even more people would die.
Health: 10/10 ; Energy: 25/30 Action: Strength 10, keep working on getting the people out of the remaining train and intro the ground, so they can flee and help the ones injured. If that is already done, she'll try to move to another spot with people in need. Health: 10/10 ; Energy: 15/30

AETHYREthan’s jaw hangs slack with shock, nerves throughout his body coursing with fight or flight level adrenaline as his mind fights to process what he just witnessed. Simon was angry now. He grit his teeth as he turned, midair, helpless to save the people on the train. The heat of his anger quenched the horror he felt at the brutality of the massacre.
"Aethyr," the name came to him easily in the thick of the action. "Open a portal directly above the perp, three-meter diameter, deep space if you can – Lexcorp, he's going to slaughter anyone we try to rescue. Permission to engage the target."
Starhawk wasn't waiting for permission, but on the off-chance Mercy concurred with his assessment it seemed appropriate to ask... Meanwhile, he tensed his muscles as he'd learned to do in the Lexcorp labs, preparing to put every ounce of focus and strength he possessed into sending Metallo through the requested portal. He knew he'd need it.
