"W... Well... this certainly answers the question of whether or not a Starborn can have children", he pondered. "Luna... I must ask. I would be happy to take responsibility for this, but you must know, if you do not already, that polyamory is pretty much a given of Fae'Rhal culture. Would that be an issue for you?" he asked.

"That is... not an issue with me." She said.

He smiled. "Then I guess it's settled. Just so you know... so far, it's you and Commander Keqing whom I count among my girlfriends. I'm sure she will be happy to learn the news", he said with a nod. "And I will be looking forward to welcoming our child in our life with you", he added warmly.
...While wondering what kind of child would result from a Starborn Half-Fae'Rhal Half-Human, and an Half-Human Half-Vulcan.

"Of course, commander. And... if I may drop the rank for a moment..." he said, getting up, drawing closer and kissing her affectionately. "...I am quite pleased by this turn of events and look forward to spending more time with you in private."
He smiled, nodding. "Well, that will be all, commander. Dismissed."

Smiling to himself from the news, James also returned to his seat to continue performing his duties.

"Captain." Keqing's voice echos over the comm. "We have intercepted a distress call from an uncharted region in space. Some people are stranded on an unknown planet and are requesting our aid."

"...Hmm. Lieutenant Commander Nami, play the distress call, please. On screen, if we have visuals", he requested.

You see it loaded to reveal a bunch of Piplups in a wrecked ship bridge.
"Anyone! We have crashed on this unknown planet while on a scouting mission." The Captain says his Pokemon speak perfectly translated through the Fae'Rhal modifications to your comm badge. "We have no effective means of repair, limited supplies, and are besiged by unknown wildlife on all sides. Requesting assistance. Someone, anyone please help us." He says as the transmission cuts out as you see a huge Elephant covered in plant life break through the top of the bridge!

"That's... concerning. Hopefully we were not already too late upon getting the message", he pondered. "Well... it looks like we might have to miss our targeted time of return at the starbase. The life of this crew might depend on us. Ms. Nami, calculate the coordinates of the distress call's point of origin and transmit them to Mr. Hyoudou's station. Lieutenant, set a course to the target coordinates as soon as you have them. Maximum Warp, engage when ready", he commanded.
"Dr. Emmerich, let us know immediately if we are straining the ship too much. I want to get us there as quickly as possible, but let's be safe about this."

"Understood Captain." They all say.
a day and a half passes before you arrive... not at a planet but at some sort of swirling golden portal big enough to fit a moon through!
"Our scanners indicate our distress signal emerged on whatever is on the other side of that portal." Lunamaria explained.

"Full stop", he requested.
James folded his arms as he examined the portal, thoughtful. This changed things. Responding to a distress call on a planet was one thing, but getting a capital ship like the Vanquisher with close to two thousand souls on board through a portal to God knows where was a different story entirely. If the portal took them to the other edge of the galaxy, another time period or another dimension and then closed, his crew's fate would be his responsibility.
"Scan the portal. I need anything you can tell me about how safe it might be to go through it, how stable it is, and how long it has been stable until now. If it'd allow a return trip or is one way only. If we can, I also want to know anything we can figure out about what awaits us on the other side, if at all possible. Is it just a wormhole to somewhere else in the galaxy? Something else? Ms. Hawke, I'd like your input when we get the data."
He turned to Fubuki. "If we got a distress call through... Lieutenant Commander, any emotions you can feel from the other side, just out of curiosity?" he asked, while he himself attempted to use his powers to try and figure out what he could from whether going through the portal was safe, and likely to allow a return trip. 6 in Statecraft (Leadership), split 2/2/2 to help with Nami's scan, Luna's general knowledge/science analysis, and Fubuki's attempt to sense emotions through the portal.
Meanwhile, 12 (Ef) in Starborn (Precognition, Clairvoyance) to try to sense any useful info about the portal I can get in addition to what my crew can learn.

"The portal appears completely safe, and capable of two-way travel... as for how long it's been here... It seems... over 300,000 years." Nami said a bit dumbfounded.
"I sense... All sorts of emotions. Mostly just animalistic creatures going out their day... I can't sense the Piplups in any significant distress yet." Fubiki said.

"I see. Ms. Nami... if we attempt to send a communication to the nearest starbase or Federation starship, are we within range?" he asked.
