KOF: 2004 Special RulesAll matches will be 3 minutes of game time. That means you have about 6 turns to finish the fight. The team with the most men left and the least amount of damage will win. Using a signature move along with classic dialouge will give you +1 to your action. Using a signature move when you are on your last white stone of health will give you +2 stones to your action. (These are the desperation moves.) A team of medical staff will revive and heal your team after each match. StoryA bright light from the crystal chandelier sparked a blare of light off the lens of the television camera. The reporter, Tiera Takizawa, briefly covered her eyes, and then quickly regained her composure. She smiled extravagantly and tried to look intrepid and sincere....and then realized that the make-up girl was still trying to powder her neck. In a burst of annoyance, Tiera clocked the poor make-up girl out of the field of the camera. It had all been caught on live television camera. Quickly realizing what she'd done, Tiera composed herself and spouted something convenient and witty: "Well and....uh! That sets the spirit for this evening's main event, the preliminary rounds of the 2004 King of Fighters Tournament! Hello viewers, I'm Tiera Takizawa, here with Channel 99 News, bringing you the BEST in competitive martial arts coverage!" Terry Bogard smiled and chuckled to himself, from the other side of the room. In fact, the room was jam packed with some of the world's greatest fighters, from all over the world. They had convened in the grand plaza building in front at Norido Stadium, in Hokkaido, Japan. This time around, the tournament has been organized by an eccentric Japanese scientist and the newly formed Tournament Commission, under the Japanese government. This commission had been created as a means of preventing any further mishaps, as had been the case in almost every previous KOF tournament. The prize? Not money, but knowledge to the cure of a deadly disease that has recently been sweeping across western Asia and which threatened to spread to Europe as well. Internation officials and the media were abuzz with suspicion of foul play, especially since the events of previous tournaments. However, Dr. Theta Okuyama was a Japanese citizen and could not be forced to hand over his research. In spite of the controversy, fighters from across the globe were being commissioned by governments and humanitarian organizations to enter the tournament--and win! Most governments were paying the teams large sums of money just for entering; with a hefty bonus should they acquire the life-saving cure. Such was the case with Terry Bogard's Team Garou, which had been commissioned by the US government to acquire the cure. Terry looked over at a dim corner and saw his other team mate, Gato, leaning against the wall. He was an excellent fighter, but not too friendly. One could tell that he was only in this tournament to test his strength and skill. Suddenly Terry felt a tug on his jacket--it was Blue Mary, his other team mate. "Terry, Terry! Come on, let's go meet the others. I think everyone's here!" cried the blonde sambo fighter, excited. Mary began to drag Terry over towards a group of female fighters. He recognized the blonde, manly looking woman, wearing a purple suit. With her was a black haired girl, who appeared to be flipping through a Japanese English dictionary, as she watched the news woman. Then there was young Athena Asamiya, the teen pop star and psycho soldier. And there were others in the room; many rough looking fellows. Three fighters had gathered around a lit computer screen; among them was a blue haired woman in green combat dress. Sneering on the 2nd floor were two former henchmen of the late Geese Howard, Billy Kane and Ryuji Yamazaki. Yamazaki suddenly turned, as a man dressed completely in black walked by them. "Hey buster, what are you--" Yamazaki started to say. "Buzz off." said the man harshly, walking away. Down below, his team mates Whip and Maxima were getting some refreshments, when the legendary Kyo Kusanagi walked up at the same time. "Huh? Oh, I didn't see you guys there. Uh....heh, so....how's the weather?" asked Kyo nervously. The pair remained silent and looked at him with mild annoyance. "Oh what do you know? There's my team mate, Iori calling! Gotta go, bye!" said Kyo, running off. Maxima scratched his head, turned to Whip, and asked, "Did he say, team mate?" Kyo ran up to Iori Yagami and placed a hand on his shoulder, panting. "Heya, Yagami. How's it going....team mate? Hahaha!" chuckled Kyo. He could see that Iori was NOT happy at this display. Kyo removed his hand and said, "Okay, enough jokes. I know you don't like this set-up, but you heard what Chizuru said. There's some kind of 'evil' threatening the world again, so you and I...being the two unlikely saviors and all, have to work together. Oh and don't worry! Tournament rules say we need three guys, so I called up a friend. He should be on his way any minute now....uuhh, if he isn't lost that is." Kyo looked briefly worried... Iori knew perfectly well was going on. After their last encounter, they'd spoken with Chizuru. She had had a bad vision of emending disaster, centered around the next tournament. The female warrior would have gone with them herself, but she had been too badly injured during the last tournament and had to recuperate. Suddenly a speaker went to the main podium and announced: "Alright everyone, it's time to begin! I'd like to welcome you all to the 2004 King of Fighters tournament! Thanks to all the media for giving us this level of coverage--it's been a big help. Since the previous tournaments were so rife with corruption, it was feared that there wouldn't be on this year. However the Japanese government has been so gracious as to provide a tournament commission to sponsor the event! As a fledgling sponsor, we needed the publicity." Here he gave a brief pause, allowing the translator to finish speaking, and then continued: "And I like to thank all the fighters for participating, for it is YOU who make this event the most exciting spectacle in the world! Some have spoken out about the controversy of this competition. Well, as the spokes person for the tournament commission, I would like to address that now. The Japanese government, and the commission members, all felt that this event would be a good way to draw international attention to the new epidemic of the Asian flu. By fighting for the cure to save thousands of lives, you fighters will allow the entire world will become interested. This helps bring aid and funds to those in need." Again a pause for the translator, then he continued: "Now let's get this event started! We have decided to use a similar format to the previous tournaments. Three fighters to a team, fighting in a full on free for all to the finish. However, there shall be NO killing. The death of an opponent will cause instant disqualification. Matches will last only three minutes. The team in the best condition at the end of the time limit will move on to the next round. The winner team of the tournament shall gain all of Dr. Theta Okuyama's research on the cure for Asian Flu!" Here there were cheers from the spectators and on-lookers. "The turn order shall be decided by drawing lots from this basket. Now, will a member of each team come forward and draw your team's letter. Please remember that because we have an odd number of registered teams, one team will automatically go to the 2nd round." explained the speaker. The stage had finally been set for one of the greatest clashes of skill in history. The night of the preliminary matches would surely be a night to remember....

Iori was less than amused with the whole affair. Chizuru had foreseen imminent danger regarding this tournament, and Kyo, remembering their truce's success against Orochi, had come to Iori to suggest they team up again to silence this threat. Just another delay in his lifelong quest to end Kyo's life. However, Iori would not accept anyone else taking Kyo's life. Kyo was his, and his alone to kill, it was his heritage and birth right. That was the only reason Iori was helping him now, to keep someone from taking that from him. However, this didn't mean he enjoyed helping him..
"Kyo, you still haven't told me who this third fighter is. Why do you continue to keep it a surprise when the fights begin soon? Or is it because of who it is?"

Terry looked around at all the participants of this year's KOF, there seemed alot more than usual but then again the prized was really big this year. He was about to walk over to Gato and talk when he heard some one shout "Terry, Terry! Come on, let's go meet the others. I think everyone's here!" cried the blonde sambo fighter, excited. Terry was dragged by Mary toward what seemed to be the new women fighters team(or old he wasn't even sure the team changed alot not that it mattered). He recognized the blonde, manly looking woman, wearing a purple suit. With her was a black haired girl, who appeared to be flipping through a Japanese English dictionary, as she watched the news woman. Then there was young Athena Asamiya, the teen pop star and psycho soldier. "Hey everybody how is every..." as he spoke Yamazaki suddenly turned, as a man dressed completely in black walked by them. "Hey buster, what are you--" Yamazaki started to say."Buzz off." said the man harshly, walking away. Terry shrugged some people were getting antsy but then again so was he.

OOC: Well, he would know OF her. They've both been in the tournament several times. She knows Ryo and his family, because she's from Art of Fighting.

When is the tournament going to start? This is nothing but a waste of time.
That's are Gato thoughts, he is thinking about the past or at least what he remembers about the past, nothing but scrambled memories.

Terry Bogard was surrounded by the familar faces of the new women fighters team. King, Kasumi, and Athena; he had fought against each of them at one time or another. It was strange meeting them outside of the ring, once again, where they were not opponents in a winner take-all match. King was the first to speak: "Mary, it's good to see you again! It's a shame you're not on our team this year....but looks like you've scored yourself a valuable teammate in the meantime!" Athena smiled and remarked, "Don't think we'll go easy on you, just because you're a hunk, Terry! And--" She was interupted when Kasumi stepped forward to speak. She spoke in garbled english, not having mastered the language yet: "M-mister Bogard-san....uhh...onegai....umm....you don't....no go...easy to us....either." Mary turned, having heard the announcer. She patted Terry on the back then skipped off to pull their team's number. Her path briefly crossed with Gato and she turned and smiled at him. "Hey you! Cheer up already!" said Mary, running off. The other fighters were already beginning to pull their team's lot. Leona was the first on to choose; she pulled the letter 'F'. The next fighter was someone who the others had never seen before; a tall man with long black hair, clad in regal black robes. Twin swords drifted at his sides. He pulled the letter 'G'. At that moment, Kyo was conversing with Iori. "Heh, don't worry Yagami. We HAVE a third fighter. I just....don't want you overreacting...." Kyo mumbled obsurely. Meanwhile... Shingo Yabuki was running late. He'd just gotten out of the airport and was pounding his bike as fast as he could. Then suddenly, something came into view on the busy Japanese street horizon: a video arcade! Surely there was enough time, thought Shingo. Inside the arcade, he found the latest street fighter game and popped some quarters in. "Oh man, this is gonna be GREAT! Awesome! Chun-li kicks some serious butt!" cried Shingo excitedly. Suddenly loud music began distracting him. He looked over at one of the DDR machines and saw a young oriental girl playing. Her hair was red and her eyes were green. She danced so remarkably for someone so short and young; the girl couldn't have been more than 12 years old. "Anna, there you are. Come ON! We're going to be late for the tournament! Gouloud is going to give you such a spanking later! Uggh...." cried a voice. A young boy, probably no older than 14, grabbed the girl's wrist and dragged her away. He was wearing a gray hoodie sweater and jean shorts with a chain hooked to the buckle; like the girl Anna, he too had red hair and green eyes. Anna followed her brother reluctantly, saying: "Aww, you're no fun Zeez! Come on..." Shingo looked at his clock and realized that it WAS almost time for the tournament. WIth that, he high tailed it to Norido Stadium. When he finally arrived, Kyo was in the midst of revealing his teammate: "You see....and don't raise a fuss, Yagami....our partner is Shi--" "Hey everybody! I'm here!! Ah, Master Kusanagi! I've arrived, haha!" Shingo shouted and started running around, "This is gonna be GREAT, being on the same team! Oh yeah! We're gonna totally win this one!" Shingo ran around the room, shaking everyone's hand and being gregarious at best, and annoying in general. Kyo rubbed his temples and sighed, as he walked up to pull his team's lot. The imposing Maxima jumped in front of him and pulled the letter 'D'. Kyo pulled the letter 'A'. "Hehe, an A! That's good luck." said Kyo, confidently. Athena spoke up as pulled her team's lot: "Hmm, too bad you never seem to get those in school, huh Kyo? If only it were that easy, huh?" The psycho soldier giggled and scampered off with the letter 'B'. After that, Billy Kane pulled his team's letter: 'E'. The announcer was given the results and announced the starting matches: "Alright, the results are in! The first match-up right now is Team Kusanagi, verses the Women Fighters Team! Next is the Team Garou verses Team K'! And we have Team Rouges verses Team Ikari. And Team Revival pulled the last letter and will advance automatically to the 2nd round!" The fights had been determined and all the fighters prepared themselves... Team Garou--Terry's team--met with Team K' inside the abandoned sumo training area, within the Stadium. Maxima, Whip, and K' were gathered on the opposite side of the area. Various weights and a few dusty benches were scattered across the room. There was a large sumo circle in the center of the ring. Team Kusanagi met with the Women Fighters on the roof of the building in front of the stadium. It was an open plane, with each team on either side of the roof. Shingo griped his gloves eagerly, ready to prove himself to his master. King glared at Iori. She knew that her team had really drawn the short star this time... The announcer raised his microphone: "Alright!! Ladies and Gentlemen, let the 2004 King of Fighters tournament BEGIN!! Fighters....--" In each battle field, a small robot fluttered around. It displayed the time for the battle and acted as a speaker phone for the announcer. "....READY....GO!!" The battle was on....

Tch, what sort of fool is Kyo? His choice of a third partner takes this tournament less seriously than Kyo himself does.
This was Iori's thought, as he noted King's gaze, and decided to start off his battle plan by focusing on King, by leaping towards her for the attack, bringing down an Orochi-empowered fist towards her, following up with a kick after his landing. He was hoping to drive her towards the edge of the roof, to put pressure on her to fight fiercely. Iori didn't want this to be easy, he wanted it to keep him in condition to take on Kyo later.

A whip, that was barely a burden for Gato. He could get in and out of range in no time thanks to his powerful jumps and his variety of attacks. He never underestimates an opponent but the need to use a weapon in combat was almost an insult.
Gato stares at Whip while cracking his neck and stretching his arms violently over his head creating a echoing crack sound.
Gato takes a look at Mary and suddenly remembers when she told him "cheer up". A strange image kicks in and overlaps Mary's, a girl with a ferret. Gato wakes up of the daydream and starts the match by jumping over and attacking Whip directly. He hopes this Mary girl can fend the guy of the stupid sideburns.
"Don't make me laugh."

2:52 Remaining The chilly night air blew across the roof top. To the north was Norido Stadium, where the national baseball league would have its first games. And tonight an alltogether different competion was at hand. The area was positively charged from combat... Athena took her stance and quickly made her way towards Kyo. She stuck at him with several boxing blows, but Kyo quickly trapped her arm and held her down. He turned to the eager Shingo and said: "Shingo, don't over extert yourself. Just hang back and let Yagami and myself take care of this." Shingo responded, "Don't worry master, I can do this! I'll finally prove myself to you--just watch me!" With that, Kyo raised Athena then hit her into the air, making a swirling motion. "Uuurrii-yah!" cried Kyo, sparking with Kusanagi flames. Athen gasped and flipped backwards. Her telekinisis helped stabilize her fall. Shingo ran off towards Kasumi. On the other side of the roof, Iori Yagami was trying to drive King back towards the ledge of the building. He certainly had no quals about killing anyone, although he knew that his team would be disqualified if an opponent died. He came down on King with a fist burning with Orochi flames, burning her shoulder. "Uggh! No way!" she cried out, staggering backwards. He tried to kick her, but King was quick to respond this time. She flipped backwards and arched her body as came back with a spinning kick. "Tornado....Kick!!" shouted King. This caught Iori off guard. (OOC: Iori takes 1 white stone of damage.)As for Shingo, he attempted to punch the stern-faced Kasumi. She simply grabbed his fist, twirled him around, and tossed him behind her. Energy gathered in her hands as she raised her arms--then came crashing down on Shingo, knocking him out. "Whaa! N-no! Aww thanks, sorrygottagogeeze--goodbye!!" screamed Shingo as he squirmed and was finally hit. Kyo sighed: "Not again..." Meanwhile K' took in the situation. He looked at Maxima and said, "This is stupid..." "Aww come on. We'll never get to meet that egghead with an attitude like that." said Maxima with a smirk. Whip's gaze never left her opponent, but she responded all the same: "Maxima's right. The doctor may know where Prof. Machushima is." "Fine..." said K', putting his hands in his pockets and walking towards Terry. Maxima ran past his, briefly patting him on the shoulder. "That's the spirit, buddy!" he said, charging into battle. At that moment, Terry Bogard unleashed his famous Power Wave at K'. A streak of hot energy broke through the ground and went sailing across the sumo ring. But just before hitting K', he vanished....then reappeared behind Terry. He gasped in shock. Gato took the distraction as an opportunity to attack. He lept forward using time honored techniques, seeming to fly through the air. At the same time, Whip grapples onto a pipe in the ceiling and swings towards Gato. The two cross paths in the air and exchange glances. Then Gato whirls around and kicks her. Whip attempts to unfurl her whip and snaps it around Gato's neck, taking him down with her. But unfortunately, the force of Gato's blow and the hard ground prove to be too much for her. She is knocked out on landing, while Gato's training allows him to easily land on his feet. Mary on the other hand was already tangling with Maxima. She felt dwarfed by the large man, but stuck to her offense. She ran forward, then slip between his massive legs. Once behind him, she grappled him from behind. Maxima turned and smiled at her: "What's that? Are you trying to scratch my back or something? Uuggh!" Maxima's smile disappeared when Mary bent him back, then threw him to the ground. "Hiii-yah!" she cried. The large fighter scrambled back to his feet, then punched Mary in the abdomen. It was an instant lights out for her. That's when K' spoke to Terry: "You're gonna pay for what what happened to my sister." With that, he runs up Terry's back and kicks him away. Terry hits the dusty sumo ring hard; the shadow of a bench falls in front of him. (OOC: Terry takes 1 white stone of damage.)

"Gyyah! Why you.."
One thing Iori hated, was when an opponent besides Kyo managed to hurt him. Kyo he'd expect it from. Anyone else, Iori felt was beneath him. Now, he was really mad. And King was going to regret it. This time, he opted to be more defensive, backing off while trying to goad King away from the edge now, so he can hit hard later without disqualifying the team. He hoped King would take the bait.

Gato grunts "Just as spected... just a waste of time" as he sees the defenseless girl in front of him in a way everyone hears his deep voice and then kicks the whip out of her hand. Anyway he gave too much of himself in this one, he got reckless for a moment but at least there was a opponent less to worry about.
Gato saw how Terry missed his opponent. Gato has trouble remembering his past but knows Terry and even if he thinks that the hungry wolf is just a show off, he knows that he is better than this.
Gato turned slowly as he heard a female voice screaming and saw Mary falling. He stares at the man of the stupid sideburners and sighs in disbelieve and taunts him.

2:17 Remaining The crowd watching the fights inside the news coverage room cheered and screamed as the first fights went into full swing. Of particular interest were the fights taking place in the sumo training facility and the roof of the conference building, in front of Norido Stadium. Fans around the world were watching the KOF tournament; they went wild as Blue Mary and Shingo were defeated and the fights continued. "DOWN!" cried the announcer, as the two warriors fell. Amongst the crowd were two members of Team Revival: Anna and Zeez. The two turned and looked at one another, smirking. The black haired man with the swords leaned against the wall behind them, his arms crossed. He silently kept watch for any possible threat to the children. One of the news feeds zoomed in on the fight in the sumo ring.... "Come here; let's see if you can catch me." called Gato to Maxima. The martial artist spotted a thin wire going into the adjacent room; it stretched across the room and was affixted to the opposite wall by a nail. Gato hopped onto it and ran across it, appearing to slice through the air at high speed. "Ugh, it's useless pal." said Maxima, giving chase. Gato came into the locker room. There were several rows of lockers and some wooden benches. The air inside was humid from showers taken in the adjorning rooms, earlier that day. There were also clothes and towels hanging on clothes lines--several of them. Gato hopped from line to line and hid behind the sheets. When he Maxima finally came in, he'd lost sight of Gato. "Hmm...." grunted Maxima, tapping the side of his head. Suddenly an elaborate sensor display appeared in front of Gato. From the brief glance that he got, it seemed to show physiological data about himself--body temperature and so forth. Maxima smiled and said, "I read your moves like the funny papers!" He raised his fist and blasted the sheets away with a gust of high pressure air. "Vapor Cannon!" he shouted. Gato flipped out of the way just in time to avoid any damage. But his cloud cover was gone, and his opponent had him directly in his sights.... Terry Bogard was having a hard time with K'. His opponent lit up his hand with flames and struct at Terry several times. This resulted in his jacket getting a little sinnged, but Terry's defense held fast. Meanwhile Kyo and Iori were not outnumbered on the roof. Shingo was out like a light--he was too unskilled to defeat Kasumi. But not one of the new Women Fighters team thought they had an easy battle. Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami--working in concert no less--were not a pair to be scoffed at. Iori was fighting King; he drew backwards after her last attack, letting his blood red hair fall over one of his eyes. And as he did so, he realized one very important thing. King kept her fists raised and slowly crept towards Iori. He slashed at her, but she clumsily dodged backwards. She was weak! In her last attack, King had expended much of her energy. Perhaps now was the time to strike, Iori reasoned. As for Kyo, he had his hands full with the other two ladies. "Psycho Ball!!" cried Athena, blasting her psychic energy. "Haahhh!" yelled Kasumi, charging at Kyo. Kyo lit his fist with the Kusanagi flames and cleaved Athena's psycho ball. Then he delivered a punch-kick combination that threw Athena to the ground. "DOWN!!" cried the announcer over the floating speakers. Just as Kasumi came behind him, he kicked her in the stomach. "You....you're helpless!" Kyo cried, puncher her with a flaming fist. Slowly Kasumi staggered to her feat. Some blood trickled down her lip--she spat it out. She said nothing, because her fierce expression spoke for her.

Gato takes a look at his opponent, wearing an armor would be a problem for direct hits, but Gato had a plan, he just hoped it work.
"You sure are slow... and I am not talking about your feet"
Gato ran to Maxima and almost in the last second jumped over him and hit a wall behind Maxima. There Gato grasped air as he jumped to Maxima in a staight line to grab his head and get his legs around his neck. He would try to give the battle a "twisted" ending with a variation of his Rei Kiba: the Mu-Ga.
