Day of the Octopus Mission 2: Ambush on 7th Avenue (Continued from MySpace - Group No Longer Available)
THING --------The Thing stands at the edge of a 3 story deep hole, holding an uprooted light pole in his strong orange, rocky, four fingered hands. Just moments ago, he tossed the Scorpion, a green costumed supervillian with a big tail, into the hole for ambushing him, Spider-Man, Captain America and Captain Marvel. What Yancy Street's own true blue hero with a heart of gold was not expecting was for the Scorpion to make like the burrowing insect that is his namesake, and scurry away into the sewers below New York City. WHOOSH! Behind him, a fire blazes in the 25 story Krupp building. The light of the flames just got brighter and the heat more intense, because the fire that engulfed the 1st floor and is now burning on the 2nd and 3rd floors as well. 'Spider-Man!' The Thing's thoughts go out to the wall-crawler that just went into that blaze. Could even the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man survive that backdraft? CAPTAIN AMERICA & CAPTAIN MARVEL ------------------------------------------------Captain America shields himself from the blast of a high tech cannon firing at him from the back of the Fixer, Beetle and Radioactive Man's getaway truck. The truck burns rubber down 6th Avenue away from the blazing Krupp building. Captain Marvel flies after the villians, intent on performing some counter-battery firing on the high tech cannon. Then she spots a beefy green glowing arm protrude from the shotgun side of the vehicle, followed by the shoulder and head of Radioactive Man. Hard radiation projects from the large emerald hand before Captain Marvel can avoid it's path. She is immediately overcome with nausea and dizziness. Drained of energy, Captain Marvel must land, reverting back to solid human form and then drops to the ground on all fours. Her energy form protected her from any radiation poisoning, but she's still in no shape to pursue the speeding vehicle. "Help! Help us! Captain America! Avengers! Help us please!" The cries come from the fourth floor of the Krupp building. Two office workers are yelling out a broken window, from which emanated not only the sounds of their voices, but also thick billowy clouds of smoke! SPIDER-MAN ----------------Spider-Man leaps out the side door of the Krupp building, carrying an unconscious man in his arm, just in the nick of time. A backdraft overtakes the lobby and the area where the man last was is now engulfed in flame! Peter Parker has taken quite a beating this day; first from the Scorpion and then from this fire. Fortunately for him, he heals at the proportional rate of a spider... or something like that. But the other people in the Krupp building would not be so lucky. The fire and smoke alarms sound throughout the 25 story complex. There are more people in there, and they need his help. With great power there must also come great responsibility. [OOC: Welcome to the all new Daily Bugle game! I look forward to reading your posts... daily!]

* Ben, with his attention now upon the blazing building makes his way into the inferno. His rocky skin protecting him from most of the fires heat. His thoughts only now upon his friends who in Ben's doubting mind probably have not survived. *
"Spidey! Capt. America! Capt. Marvel!"
* Ben's voice bellows within the building searching for any sign of the other hero's......*
---------------------------------------
Action 1: 3 stones to Close Combat, shifted to Defense to avoid the worst of the flames, falling debris and large smoke clouds.
Action 2: 3 stones to Durability, first filling my lungs with air so I can shout and yet still not have to breath in the fumes of the fire when inside.
Health: 6/6 Energy: 12/18 Defense: 9 (3 shifted from Close Combat + 6 Toughness)

* Captain America, seeing the disordered state of affairs his team is in, calls out:
"Captain Marvel, there are Citizens here who need our help more than ever! Follow me! Ben, we are on our way!!"
* Captain America helps up Captain Marvel and sprints toward the burning building, looking for a means of propelling himself up to the fourth floor window. A flagpole horizontally protruding from the second floor would be nice but fat, climbable window ledges will also do.
I choose to spend my 2 stones accordingly: 1 stone as a Leadership action to bring Captain Marvel around. 1 stone in Intelligence to find a quick route to the people on the fourth floor.
Health: 2/4 Energy: 4/12 Defense: 11 (1 Toughness + 3 Reflexive Dodge + 1 Costume + 6 Shield)
[OOC - I hope this is right, I'm kind of piecing things together here until I learn the system]

SPIDER-MAN ---------------- With great power there must also come great responsibility.
Bitten by a radioactive spider, high-school student Peter Parker gained the proportional strength and agility of a spider. But instead of using his powers for good, Peter saw them as a chance to earn fame and fortune. He failed to use his new powers to stop a thief, and days later, that same burglar killed his Uncle Ben. Peter learned that "with great power there must also come great responsibility", and Spider-Man was born.
Today Spider-Man stands outside a burning office building, beaten and burned, with nothing to show for his trouble but a rescued robber, who probably would rather shoot him than thank him the next time they meet. Today, like many other days, Spider-Man has reason to wonder if he should quit being Spider-Man.
"Spidey! Capt. America! Capt. Marvel!" Peter Parker hears the Thing bellow from inside the flaming Krupp Building.
Peter? Peter? Where are you Peter?, he recalls his Aunt May calling for him just moments before he was ambushed by yet another sindicate of super-powered villians out to end his super-hero career and his life.
With great power there must also come great responsibility. Just where does that responsibility lie, with Ben Grimm or with May Parker?
Spider-Man's Health: 1/4 Spider-Man's Energy: 3/12
CAPTAIN AMERICA ----------------------- Captain America helps up Captain Marvel and sprints toward the burning building, looking for a means of propelling himself up to the fourth floor window... and he finds one. However, this is a route that only one trained in Acrobatics and in possession of a near impenatrable fireproof shield would dare attempt.
There is a large statue directly in front of a large doorway. He could leap up the statue, spring over to the buttress above the door, shield down protecting him from the flames, and reach the second floor ledge. If timed just right he could use the momentum to reach the third floor window, where it looks that he'd be able to climb the rest of the way. It's possible, but it'll take at least all his Acrobatics ability combined with what's left of his energy in Strength to accomplish such an Olympic feat.
Captain America's Health: 2/4 Captain America's Energy: 6/12
CAPTAIN MARVEL ---------------------- Two office workers are yelling out a broken window, from which emanates not only the sounds of their voices, but also thick billowy clouds of smoke!
Back on her feet and now able to shake the nausea fron her head, Captain Marvel is becoming more aware that escaping villians are not the primary concern at the moment.
Captain Marvel's Health: 2/3 Captain Marvel's Energy: 1/9
THING -------- Ben's voice bellows within the building searching for any sign of the other hero's. Burning foliage lines the right-hand wall and long wooden benches engulfed in flames line the left-hand wall. a broken and melted glass display case sits in the center of the room with the red hot remains of an exploded suit of Mandroid battle armor scattered about!
The Thing hasn't seen or heard anything else in this furnace of a lobby, as he's been occupied with keeping his lungs clean and his rocky hide from being barbequed.
Thing's Health: 6/6 Thing's Energy: 18/18

* Ben searches for a stairwell and decides to move up to the above floors hoping to find some trace of his friends there, still continuing to call for them and trying to not expell all of the air filled in his lungs he makes his way to the stairs and continues up to the second floor *

3 stones to continue holding my breath without passing out
3 stones to defense to continue avoiding falling debris

Without hesitation, Captain America leaps to the top of the statue, but only for an instant as he propels himself toward the ledge of the second floor, holding his shield downward to intercept any escaping flames. Continuing with his fluid display of acrobatic ability and inherent strength, he propels himself, with the help of his momentum, to the third floor ledge.
*******************************************
Action 1: 4 stones in Acrobatics to make the death-defying leap to the statue and then the second floor.
Action 2: 2 stones in Strength to propel himself to the 3rd floor window
Health: 2/4 Energy: 0/12 Defense: 11 (1 Toughness + 3 Reflexive Dodge + 1 Costume + 6 Shield)

CAPTAIN AMERICA ----------------------- With a fluid display of acrobatic ability and inherent strength, Captain America propels himself toward the third floor ledge. On the way up a window chatters on the second floor, but his indestructible shield protects him from the hot glass and flickering flames.
Above him he hears the man and woman he's come to rescue step out onto the ledge to... argue?
"I told you it wasn't just a fire drill," a woman's voice scolds. "Now how are we supposed to explain why we were in the office supply closet together?"
"Ssshh," cautions a male voice. "Captain America might hear you. If we just walk over two windows we can say we were in the break room when the fire broke out."
"Hey, watch it! Aiiiyyeee!!!!"
A red high heel shoe falls past Steve Rogers towards the ground three stories below. Following it comes a well manicured foot that hangs off the ledge above and to the right of him.
"Help me! Help me! Please!" The woman's voice screams.
Health: 2/4 Energy: 2/12
THING -------- Ben finds a stairwell to his left, but before he reaches it, the door opens. A very determined (or very crazy) businessman sprints out from the stairwell, straight toward the nearby east side exit door. The man leaps over a burning bench to reach the exit, but trips and falls right between the flaming furniture and the doorway out.
"Jack!" multiple voices yell in unison. (Except for a few that yell, 'Mr. Baur!')
The stairwell is full of people trying to get out. However, the genius who designed this piece of 'Krupp' building didn't design for the stairwell to have a door leading to the outside. So 25 stories worth of Monday morning office workers are trapped in the stairwell with the choice of either roasting in the heat of the stairwell or making a kamikazee attempt for the exit, like our friend 'Jack-be-nimble' over there.
Need I mention that with a cast of thousands on the stairwell heading down, there is little chance of the Thing going UP?
Thing's Health: 6/6 Thing's Energy: 15/18
SPIDER-MAN ---------------- Just where does Peter's responsibility lie, with Ben Grimm or with May Parker?
"May Parker?" Spider-Man overhears a familiar Police officer say from the construction area across the street from the burning Krupp Building.
"Yes, I'm May Parker? Have you seen my nephew Peter?" a distraught even more familiar voice answers.
"Sorry maam. I haven't, but I do think I have your purse. Spider-Man apprehended a suspect who had it on him." the officer who Peter met earlier that morning replies.
"Oh bless that Spider-Man! Thank you." May answers with tears of gratitude in her eyes.
"Unnnggghhhrrrr..." The man named Turk in Spider-Man's arm groans.
What's gotten into him? This is no time for day dreaming. There is a wounded robber here that needs help. A fire that needs to be put out, and then at least four super-villians who need to be chased down and brought to justice.
The Scorpion must have hit him even harder than he thought. How else could Spider-Man have ever doubted himself and that, "With great power there must also come EVEN GREATER responsibility!"? His responsibility lies with BOTH May Parker AND Ben Grimm! (and even this Turk guy too)
Spider-Man's Health: 1/4 Spider-Man's Energy: 3/12
CAPTAIN MARVEL ---------------------- Captain Marvel is aware that the escaping villians are not the primary concern at the moment, but she can't help but feel angry at Radioactive Man for causing this mayhem and making her feel like @#%^!#^ with that radiation of his. There is no doubt in her mind that it was Radioactive Man that was the source of the Gamma Radiation she and Thor detected originating from Rathbone Park.
Behind her, across the street from the Krupp building, are a number of shops. Perhaps someone saw something, some clue, that can help her track the villians down later.
Later... yes. She'll have to deal with the villians later. For now there are civilians that need rescuing. They need Captain Marvel!
Captain Marvel's Health: 2/3 Captain Marvel's Energy: 2/9 [The energy gained from Leadership expired. captain Marvel had to use it immediately. Then she regained 2 Energy because her current Health is 2.]

“This should do you Mr. Turk!” Spidey drops the thug in a safe place. “Now if I catch you again It will only be coal for christmas.” Aunt May seems fine for now but Ben Grimm is in serious need of help. Looking around Spiderman spots the water tower on the building across the street, also the construction sight. “ Now that’s crazy Spidey, no crazy is talking to yourself.” Spiderman leaps into the air and web zips to the roof of the building holing the water tank.
Action: 1/stone web sling to the roof and the water tower.

SPIDER-MAN ---------------- Spider-Man leaps into the air and web zips toward the roof of the eight story Hotel Claire and it's water tank.
rrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRRrrrRRR
The siren of approaching fire trucks reach Spider-Man's ears as he's propelled upwards. Looking down he sees that an ambulance and two police officers have already converged upon Turk.
As bad a Monday morning as Peter Parker is having, Turk's is a far lot worse. See kids? Crime doesn't pay.
However, Not every bad apple remains sour. Vin Patilio, the father of the not-so-Fabulous Frog-Man turned over a new leaf by going undercover to catch the White Rabbit. [see Marvel Team-Up #131] Maybe Turk can do the same?
Spider-Man's Health: 1/4 Spider-Man's Energy: 3/12
CAPTAIN AMERICA & CAPTAIN MARVEL ------------------------------------------------ As Captain America steady's the woman after pulling her up, she says, "Thank you Captain America, I almost let go a moment too soon, but your guiding voice gave me the strength to hang on."
Just yesterday, Captain America rescued Tony Stark from another burning building, set on fire by a super-arsonist named Firebrand. Tony's first comment was, "Go 'way, Cap. Lemme 'lone. I wanna be where I am... I belong in the bowery." [see Iron Man #172] This woman's response is much more welcoming.
"But how do we all get down from here?" is all the man asks. Perhaps being rude to rescuers a guy thing?
Almost as if in answer the man's query, Captain Marvel flies toward the three people on the fourth story ledge to lend her assistance. She is followed by a team of firemen on the ground approaching with a long telescoping ladder.
Captain America's Health: 2/4 Captain America's Energy: 2/12
Captain Marvel's Health: 2/3 Captain Marvel's Energy: 2/9
THING -------- Having cleared the east exit as an escape route, the Thing looks for any other exit that his friends could have possible gotten out through. That leaves the back and the west side doors. The back is closest so he goes there first.
Emerging from the flames, Ben can finally take a breath of fresh air by the large statue outside. (If the New York City smog can be considered fresh.) The Thing is really beat. He didn't sleep at all last night. After taking Alicia to the Hospital [see Fantastic Four #256], his guilt kept him up because he was in the Negative Zone with the Fantastic Four while she and Franklin were being beaten by that bug faced freak Annihilus.
Something red and high heeled grabs his attention on the ground. He then looks up and sees Captain Marvel floating four stories above him. It's funny how they keep meeting like this. [see Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 and again Fantastic Four #256]
Thing's Health: 6/6 Thing's Energy: 15/18
CONCLUSION TO AMBUSH ON 7TH AVENUE ------------------------------------------ With the help of the heroes, the firemen put out the fire in under two hours.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
The Thing earns 1 Line of Experience in Close Combat for his fire fighting efforts.
Captain America earns 1 Line of Experience in Leadership for gaining the trust and cooperation of the civilians he rescued.
Spider-Man's Line of Experience will be removed because this is a new player. However, Spidey gains 1 Health point back thanks to his Healing Factor.
Captain Marvel (TBD)
