so i've been toying with the idea of allowing mutant, alien, whatever... characters to increase their stats above 3 using lines of experience. but i feel that if i do this i should make it worth the time of those who choose to play a completely human character with out the ability to do this. so here is my answer. allow the player to take a challenge called simply:
Human: 3-5 stones (i haven't decided yet)
unavailable to those with powered armor or inventing actions.
what do you guys think?

Cool - sounds like good stuff; though in my games if someone has a reasonable story (and human) i'd let them have up to a 4.
Book really doesn't say "Humans" can't - though the DR chart has peak listed at 3.
So, the question is - if they take that challenge, they can get 3 to 5 stones? What determines the amount of stones they are refunded? Ability levels? ;D ;D

My friend and I created a very good fantasy RPG some years ago. Both of us agreed that it made no sense that so many typical "D&D" type worlds listed humans as the dominant life form, yet no party every played them. That being the case, we intentionally slanted the game to where playing a human cost no CP's (Character Points) to build, plus granted bonuses that other species did not have. We got more human players that way, but it didn't solve the problem. Still waaay to many people fascinated with Elves, IMHO.
Nothing to do with this post, except that giving humans a stone advantage isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, humans can more easily interact with society (as in the aforementioned RPG game, above). So, their advanatage is societal. It just has to be played out.

actually in response to Rangers post, according to page 45 in the avengers book a character cannot raise an ability higher then three with lines of experience. This shows that unless its a mutant or mutagenic or someother kind of increase a character can only reach peak human abilities through experience. it uses the Punishers stats as an example of how training can nly give you peak human ability not super human or above.
Now in response to Scriptus i think thats a cool challenge but i think you should lower the bonus and of course restrict it to actions only and only normal human actions. Now in response to players not playing humans, in just about every game i play in i play humans. I do this as a challenge to myself, any good roleplayer can make a human character that could be just as good as any super human character. heck look at the Punisher or if you would like to see a weak home made character check out StreetWise in the Avengers Mansion campaign. This character is completely human and because of a good background and well thought up spending he could probably beat any and all of the other homebrewn characters. (this might be kind of biased since he is my character ;D, but he is a good example of a good totally human character)
