the thing about invention is it's really a huge gumble of abilities in one going by mr fantastic it's a whole host of exotic theoretical physics and sciences mixed in with a host exotic engineering skills on top. And it has to be, so that it can cover people like Reed Richards. I just think, in the case of Banner, since he's never really invented anything of any significance except the Gamma Bomb, its much better to say that he's the theoretically physicist behind the bomb, and somebody else did the actual Invention. I mean, it wouldn't be a problem if players were more "honest"... but you just know that if you let somebody play Hulk, they'd have Banner spending all his time building super-uber-smackdown-gear for his Hulk form...

Personally If your roleplaying hulk when does he ever use actual sophisticated weapons except the rare times when he is lucid? Hulk is more likely to rip up a concrete pillar and smash you over the head with it than use a funky plasma sword but your right Banner really shouldn't be making much equipment at all for hulk except that is to remove hulk :<

I agree, Hulk doesn't use much in the way of equipment, and thats kind of my point... giving Banner Invention is (for most players) an invention to suit the guy out in power armor, a lightsaber, maybe some jet boots...

While I agree there are many potential misapplications of the action, I feel not giving Banner Inventing would be a grave injustice. If you ever find copies of the early 616 Hulk, Banner invented just about everything, from the gamma bomb, to the Orion missile, the machines he originally used to contol his transformations, and even a beam that teleported stuff/people through time. And that's just the stuff off the top of my head. If you ever have a player misuse the action, I say do like the writers do, and simply have hulk smash it.

The problem with that starts with the fact that the player, not the GM, controls the Hulk, and end with the fact that Banner's machines to "control his transformations" NEVER work. At best they mutate him into some other (usually worse) form of Hulk...
I've never heard of an Orion missile, and I've never seen him successfully build anything that teleported people through space or time.

Hey guys and(on the very off chance) girls! Work, sleep, I'm back. this lost will likely be lengthy, but I'm a big Hulk fan, and hopefully everyone will find it to be very informative as well.
TIH #1, page 2: the narrator caption credits Banner as the creator of the "G-Bomb.
TIH #1, page 33: Banner uses radiation to rid Gargoyle of his physical deformaties.
TIH #2, page 10: Banner built an underground cell "powerful enough to withstand any assault" for the purposes of imprisoning the(then Night-time)Hulk. Also, the door of said cell, is a slab of concrete "ten feet thick," but Banner creates a device so even Rick Jones can open and close it with ease, from the outside.
TIH #2, page 15: Hulk uses a toad man's "magnetic stun gun" against him. While not an invention of Banner's, it's not exactly off topic either.
TIH #2, page 33: Rick Jones mentions that Banner invented the "Gamma Ray Gun" which they then use to literally "repel" a full scale alien invasion.
TIH #4, page 14: Rick Jones uses their secret underground lab and the machine Banner built to bombard himself with gamma rays to change Hulk back into Banner. Banner later adjusts it's settings to have his brain, but the Hulk's body. These changes allow him to control his transformations for a time through use of the bases toe controls.
TIH #5, page 19: Hulk is frozen in a block of solid ice, but the radiation his body emits actually thaws him before the army can reach him.
TIH #6, page 2: T-bolt credits Banner as having invented the space probe to be tested.
TTA #60, page 21: T-bolt credits Banner as having created a suit of PA.
TTA #61, page 23: Banner actually invents a scanner to track the now stolen PA.
TTA #62, page 26: Chamleon discovers a working prototype "grenade-type Gamma Bomb."
TTA #63, page 24: T-bolt says, "One of Dr. Banner's latest nuclear inventions is to be moved to another base..."
TTA #64, page 27: the nuclear absorbatron
TTA #75, page 24: the T-Gun, Banner's invention used to teleport the Hulk into the future.
TTA #85, page(I've stopped caring): the Orion missle is an anti-missle proof rocket designed by Banner.
Whlie I'm sure there's more in later issues I think I've made my point on this subject. Also, if a PC want to be a strong guy that transforms and has absolute control over both forms let them be Colossus. Any true fan can tell you Hulk ruins things for Banner constantly and anyone who doesn't accept that can only do a lousy job of RPing the character. Another possible solution is instituting an "automatically causes collateral damage" house rule when using the rage ability. Hulk has never really been known for his delicate touch while in one of his trademark rampages. Another thing to consider is the durability of the invention. If it's not safe for me to carry around my X-Box in a backpack, then what chance does a lightsaber have of surviving a rough and tumble with the Abomination?

Okay, so Banner is a bona fide inventor, I'll grant you.
However, I'm not sure how the one about his body's gamma radiation melting ice has any significance to his inventing ability (just for the sake of having something to nitpick)
Still, he's nowhere near the level of someone like Reed Richards or Doctor Doom, who are constantly inventing.

It doesn't, but I thought it was an interesting ability that we see more of in later issues and I have never seen statted up. I thought I'd pitch it on the "Hulk, done right" thread.
And for the purposes of my own nitpicking, he already has a lower INT then those two and a pitiful inventing 2. Since he created the gamma bomb and the D&R chart lists ground zero as EV damage 10, wouldn't that require he have a minimum action # of 3?
Lastly, Hulk is constantly subjected to gamma bomb explosions and various nuclear attacks only to walk away totally unscathed(twice in just that short five year span I so recently covered) I think it's not to much of a stretch to purpose an immunity to radiation.

Hello all, I'm new to the site and have been playing MURP for about a year and a half. I made a few changes to the hulk in my running game but the one I think the most appropriate was making his durability increase by (1) every three panels of raging. That way his energy can keep up with what has been described as an infinite strength gain (proportional to his level of stress.)

What is the stuff under close combat, smashing blows and the like? I don't understand what those mean.
Thanks in advance, and sorry if it's a dumb question.

Smashing and Power Blows are specialties. Come to think of it, what are they useful are again other than flavoring? Did the rules say that you get an extra sit mod if you do anything related to specialties? Efficient is a home brew modifier where you get one extra stone of effort for every two stones you put in it. Basically, you spend three stones into CC, or any other actions that has efficient, and you actually get 4 stones in the final effect. Meaning Hulk would be able to do 4 stones of damage for just spending three stones. Don't ask me how much that option costs. I got it through a gm for +1 (Because that is what I had assumed) but someone sent me a CAD thinking it was +2. And considering that the person who was a veteran on these boards has me wondering which price is right.

+1 is the generally agreed upon cost, and as far as I'm concerned, it's very appropriate. It does not allow to exceed the maximal amount of stones for the action, so it ain't nearly worth +2 if you ask me.
