I think it could make for an exciting MURPG game, even if the characters would be fairly similar. The real trick is, how do we allow for the sort of absolute hack-and-slash, one-on-many battles that it would involve? This is where you come in, community.

This idea has already been discussed before, mostly by WildKnight if I'm not mistaken, though I can't remember where.

Actually, me and Spiderman were trying to make a rule modification to make it look more like strategy, but we scrapped the idea.
And since Im a sucker for Romance of Three Kingdoms (best-novel-ever), I'd be interrested. But instead of replaying the same scenarios over and over again, why not a twist with crossovers? Warriors Orochi has to be one of the best game ideas ever. I mean, whats better then Romance of Three Kingdoms? ROTK but with addition of Oda Nobunaga, Musashi Miyamoto, Kojiro Sasaki, Masamune Date, Goemon Ishikawa, Hanzo Hattori and other, less known, characters from Edo era.

Sorry for the mistake. I knew it was some of the heavy hitters of the boards, I only forgot which one, lol.

I don't think it's undoable, personally. Hard to do simply, of course. I'm personally working on my own forum-based system for it which may be partially inspired by MURPG. What sort of ideas were you and spidey tossing around before you scrapped it?

Modifier I whipped up, the first step in a general "Make things more DW-like" plot.
Fighting Spirit - For every white stone of damage you do in close combat, you get one free stone (up to MN) which can be used for close combat actions whenever you desire, though they will be lost when combat is over or when you take damage (one lost for every white stone taken). These free stones can be used to exceed your Close Combat AN.
It's designed to encourage hitting multiple opponents to quickly build up free stones and then unleash them in a single attack, DW-style, but could also help make CC in general and unarmed fighters as well more capable.

Area Attack on weapons that have a changing range based in how large the weapon is. For bows give them a longer range when shot as the weapon area range goes up in the case of Ina, or just get the range shot boost in the case of SSX and Zhuge's wife in DW6. Musou attacks add more power to the attack and can cost +3 energy.

Umm, arent bows already ranged weapons? They already have range 4, do more and they will shoot for 1 mile- even for Dynasty Warriors standards, thats too much. When Ina (who isnt even from Dynasty Warriors, but thats a detail) uses her combos, I'd say she just combined Close combat with Ranged.
And area effect for weapons is a bad idea- just split stones. Players will be tough enough to be able to split stones among multiple enemies and kill them anyway (I imagine foot soldier having no defense and just 1 health, unless they are trained elites). Maybe implement some house rules that enhances fighting against groups. As much as I love killing 30 people every combo, in Murpg this would be a pain in the a$$ for GM's notes (Im having problems with just few enemies at a time)

Well, that's the point of the mod up there - say you spend 1 stone each to kill five grunts, you do 1w to each and get 5 free stones, meaning most of the time unaccompanied grunts are going to be a joke.

And... that's a bad thing? I love Dynasty Warriors 4, and it was always easy to slaughter massive waves of grunts. Heck, my favorite tactic was to grab a horse, ride behind enemy lines and just slaughter all the soldiers I could find. It always worked until two or three officers showed up, but details....
I wish I could really help here. Maybe I'll think of something. If I do, I'll post and let you know.
